Healthy School Canteen Congratulations to our canteen manager Mrs Kate Read for all her hard work in the submission for our school to achieve healthy school canteen status. A substantial amount of work went into the submission and this initiative also supports the health and wellbeing of our studens. Having a healthy canteen means that our students are more likely to develop healthy eating habits that can have a long-term impact on their lives.Thank you also to the parents who volunteer in our canteen each week to help make the lunches each day and serve the children during both recess and lunch breaks.

Our school is participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be closing on 25 October so if you have not already done so, please log in to complete the survey. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/wakehurst2019 The survey is available in 23 languages. Positive Behaviour for Learning This week we are focusing on the expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best across our playground settings. We are especially concentrating on students being kind, considerate and cooperative, playing fairly and taking turns and including others across all playground settings. Please take the time also to remind your child of these expectations when in the playground.

Oval Irrigation Over the last year the P&C and School have been working together on a project to rejuvenate the oval. This has been a shared financed project from the NSW Government Community Building Partnership Grant and the P&C (approximately 50%). Over the last three weeks the final and most significant stage of the project has been undertaken, with the installation of an automated irrigation system. This included connection of two tanks to the COLA and Roof of the Shed / 3-6 toilet block, which means that the irrigation system will use rainwater, making the system more sustainable. This will allow for watering when required and convenient. Luke Burlet has been managing the project and has spent a large amount of time from the lead up work with the Government Grant submission through to the installation of the irrigations system. We like to thank Luke for the huge commitment and effort to see this project through. There were also other contributors along the way, including myself and parents including those that helped over the last two weekends with the covering in of the irrigation pipes and sprinklers. Thanks to those from the working bee installing the tank, Mel & Mike Ellis and family, Damien Symons, Rozelle Wessels, Peter Orth, Darren Kilkeary, Nimisha Kalimuthu and four boys from Davidson High.

The project will officially draw to a close over the coming weeks, but work on the oval will continue, with additional topsoil and some grass to fill in the bare patches. Maintenance also begins, with fertilising and weed control. Thanks to Michael, the school’s new GA, for fertilising this week. We are also still working with Craig Easton from Green Turf Solutions to kill off the Reed Weed that continues to grow across not only our oval but others in the Northern Beaches. We like to thank Craig for his commitment to removing this weed. Another weed spray will happen on Saturday 2 November, there will be no effect to children or staff during the school week. We also like to acknowledge Terry Fitzgerald, previous GA, for helping with the setup and connections to Craig and Steve, these connections have been great in helping to complete this project. We wish Terry all the best with his ongoing health battles. Bill Stephinson Grounds Committee & Vice President P & C
