At the Meandros Boutique & Spa Hotel, we recognise the impact of our

business on the environment and we are committed to conducting the

hotel in a way that ensures environmental sustainability.

Our effort and sincere dedication on saving the environment have been

recognized from our partners and guests, helping us to improve

ourselves on an every day basis.

Reducing our usage of paper by printing double sided.

Using Latvian typography that sends scrap paper over-lefts for : our wine list, beverage list, cocktail list, snack bar menu, celebration cards, information cards,

promotion materials, name badges & elevator signs.

When furniture loose color - we don't throw them out, we color them

All the plastic bottle lids from the bottles we are collecting, are given for charity in need to recyclethem and make wheelchair wheels for kids in need.

We outsource recycling for HP printer ink and take part in the HP recycling program.

When it comes to glass or mirror cleaning, we always use newspaper pages instead of synthetic clothes. In this way we reuse products that have already been used and produced for another purpose.

We collect used batteries to recycle, in a special collector to later give them away for recycling.

We always prefer to use glass bottles, so as to be able to return them to our suppliers after they areused, to enable recycling.

Used cans are collected in our recycling bin and every day they are collected by garbage trucks of themunicipality of Zakynthos.

Furniture not needed anymore in the hotel we donate to people in need.

Plastic bags can take up to 500 years to biodegrade so we have made a station inside the hotel soguests can take a re-useable shopping bag with them when they go for shopping.

Reusing guest's books that have been left behind - when guests leave books in their room or aroundhotel areas, our maids are collecting them and replacing them in the hotel's library for other guest

usage.

We always make sure to reuse printed paper for making notes in our internal communication betweendeparments of the hotel. In this way we don't need to use small note papers for notes.

Recycling bins are available at the bar & pool area with a paper, glass, plastic, cans recycling optionsto encourage our guests to seperate their waste, into the indicated bins.

Some of our rooms are equipped with a sensor that disables air conditioning operationas soon as the balcony door opens.

Operating a ‘switch off’ policy for office staff to turn off computer equipment, electronic devices, printers when not in use.

Operating a ‘low light’ policy from 3:00 in the night, automatically closing half of theexterior lights.

Hotel room doors are equipped with cards instead of keys. When guests leave the room, electricity goes off, except in room fridge.

This enables us to save big amount of energy consumption.

We always outsource our electric appliances maintenance to the right professionals, so as to save energy.

All of our rooms are equipped with self controlled air conditioning. We advice our guests to use it wisely by setting the right temperature.

The right temperature we recommend need to have 3 degrees Celsius difference fromthe outside temperature.

Our guests are advised to use in room electricity wisely and not to waste energythrough extensive use of appliances.

Tube network is insulated, so as to save energy and avoid leaks.

We use low energy light bulbs in public areas.

Collecting rain water in to the tanks and later using this water for flower watering.

Water saving filters are placed in all of our taps in rooms. This filters increases the airpressure and at the same time decreases water usage.

For cleaning we use hot water, so as to enable less water consumption & more effectivecleaning.

In all of our hotels we use solar panels for water heating for all rooms, public toilets andkitchen.

In all of our kitchens we use the indicated washing machines in order to save water and energyconsumption.

On an everyday basis, we monitor pool water condition and all data isrecorded.

In all of our hotels, we use our own laundry. This enables us to save water and energy consumption.

Hotel's sanitary system is connected to the main drainage network of the area. We regularlydo checkups for leaks, to make sure that our sewage system works well.

We encourage our guests to help us save water by reducing towellaundry.

Water saving hippos are placed in all of our toilet flashes. This increases the air pressure anddecreases water usage by 2-4 liters.

We collect food waste and supply breeders for animal food.

We collect organic waste and use them for fertilizer production.

We collect all cooked oil from our kitchens and outsource them for recycling.

We use organic produced, seasonal vegetables and local products.

We produce our own olive oil and use it in our hotels.

We are proud to hold HACCP certificate.This is a great tool for us to monitor and control the healthy operation

in our kitchens.

Reducing our usage of harmful cleaning chemicals and replacing these with eco-friendly productswherever possible.

We have no plastic straws policy in our hotel, the plastic straws are replaced with wheat, metal &silicone straws.

In most of our rooms we use organic wall paint when possible. In this way we avoid using chemical paint, sothe atmosphere in our rooms is healthier.

In all public toilets, we provide soap containers instead of atomic soaps.

Supplier products such as toilet papers, napkins, room supplies etc., we order in bulk to reduce thewaste of shipping and transportation each time.

During dinner time in our 'Uranus' restaurant we use fabric cloth napkins instead of paper napkins to reducethe usage of paper one - use tissues.

We have changed one use plastic cup usage for cocktails to hard plastic glasses that can be washable and beused again.

Encouraging our guests to explore the local attractions by public transport, bicycle or on foot by providinginformation about walks, cycle routes and cycle hire information and bus timetables at reception.
