Thinking of high school often brings up thoughts of teachers, students, books, homework, and year-round activities. What makes Harvard Public School different from any other school? It is the uniqueness and individualism that each person contributes to the school. Throughout the year, students participated in extracurricular activities; they also kept up with classes and some even worked part-time jobs. Here at Harvard Public School the challenge for every teacher was to encourage each student to explore his or her own individuality. To not live life according to a "pattern." To discover one's personality and embrace differences. To live life to the fullest, experiencing everything possible. There is no limit to the creativity of young minds. There is no structured expectations . . . there should be no "lines" in the coloring book of our lives! This year at Harvard Public School was filled with great classroom achievements. Seniors were the top birds of the birdcage, and had many things to do before they could leave the doors of Harvard Public School forever. At the beginning of the school year their classes started with introductions and in April ended with a sign out sheet. Over the span of the year, the seniors participated in some of their final games and activities. They faced new challenges. With graduation around the corner, they wrote speeches, completed scholarships, resumes and research papers. Juniors this year had to plan one of the biggest school activities in their high school careers--PROM! After weeks of preparation, it was perfect. The juniors' enthusiasm earned them the first annual spirit stick award. Receiving this recognition was not hard for this class, as they participated each day of Spirit Week . One doesn't doubt that the junior class will show determination as defending champions for next year's spirit week! Sophomores were some of the closest friends in the entire high school. They ate as a class, had bonfires, and even had class movie nights at classmates' homes. Sophomores were known for goofing off and being together. Many of them participated in sports and other clubs, but the toughest thing was passing all their classes. When one sophomore was seen roaming the hallways, it wasn't unusual to see two or three more. The freshmen were at the bottom of the "class food chain." As they began their high school years, the freshmen expected great things and hoped to get into the groove of high school. Not knowing what to expect and how to fit in, many found it wasn't as hard as they imagined. Many freshmen participated in activities with upper classmen and proved themselves. Jennifer Callahan, Alexis Schuck, Katie Bell, Alyssa Novak, Zach Faltys, Deidre Freitas, Paige Gosser, Derek Ives, Dallas Doupnik, Callie Brown, and Elsa Knight lettered in every activity they participated in, varying from volleyball, football, band, drama, choir, and show choir. But as the school year progressed, one could see the changes in every student as they took steps up into high school or said their last goodbyes. They each made memories and friends that can last a lifetime. The seniors faced graduation and are now getting ready to experience college and all of life's lessons. Though they have left, a new class will step up to fill their shoes, and the process goes on. New freshman will enter and go through the same fears and hopes. As we continue to strive to find our unique niche, students at Harvard will continue to color outside the lines. 2 Walsworth Publishing Company Online Design Proof - Copyright Walsworth Publishing Company - Only provided as a proof PDF - Printers other than Walsworth Publishing Company are explicitly restricted from printing this PDF or recreating it in any form.
