Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Cricklefields for this Ryman League Division 1 North match with our old friends Harlow Town. We hope their supporters, players and officials have a pleasant stay with us, and a safe journey home. We also extend a warm welcome to our team of match officials today. So, for another season our FA Cup dream is over. The boys clearly gave it their all and looked devastated at the final whistle. As we have grown to expect, the pitch here at Cricklefields did us no favours, but we did have a couple of chances to go ahead before Hampton & RIchmond eventually scored the only goal of the game. Our visitors did have the lion's share of possession and had the best chances, but it was still disappointing that we could not hold on for a replay.

They have been drawn away to Bury Town (also of the Ryman Premier Division) in the next round, who will no doubt give them another tough test. This evening is a brief return to league action for us before we are back on the cup glory trail as we travel to Ramsgate on Saturday. Saturday's match will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs (since 1995 at least), and the trip to the seaside will make a pleasant change from our usual expeditions in and around the M25. Our opponents today, Harlow, have had - like us - a slightly indifferent start to their season. They have beaten Heybridge Swifts and Witham Town 1-0, but have lost 4-3 to Aveley and 2-1 to AFC Sudbury. Since the end of last season The Hawks have lost a number of fairly influential players, and have so far replaced them with some younger additions to their squad. They have however kept hold of a familiar face up front in Jeff Hammond, and we all know how much of a threat Jeff can be on his day. It sounds as if there was a real barn-stormer of a cup tie down in Maldon last night as Brentwood Town visited.

The match already started several minutes late because of traffic, and ended 1-1 after 90 minutes. Maldon were guilty of missing sitters - like they did against us - and Brentwood had a goal disallowed. After 30 minutes of extra time, the scores were still level, so the tie was to be decided by a penalty shoot-out. The shoot-out ended up being won 8-7 by Brentwood, after both goalkeepers had had to take penalties. However, the drama continued after the whistle as a Brentwood substitute - apparently unprovoked - started to assault a Maldon player. Brentwood have said that this player will never play for them again. In the league, four players saw red between Cheshunt and Aveley - two of them former Forest players. Courtney White, on loan from Billericay was sent off for the home side, while Ellis Sands, Scott Curley and Marc Sontag were all dismissed for Aveley, who eventually lost 4-2. I won't be at the game this evening as I'll be watching Arsenal take on Coventry in the third round of the catchily-named Capital One Cup.

vOICEO F W A L T H A M F O R E S TWEEKEnd ROUnd-UpPotters Bar moved up to second place with a 3-2 home victory over Cheshunt on Saturday and James Gershfield’s two goals took his tally for the season to 11, eight of them in five league games. Cheshunt led at half-time thanks to Leon Archer’s 20-yard strike after 31 minutes. Gershfield equalised in the 54th minute and put the Scholars ahead with nine minutes left. Rob Magwood added another before Iain Salt gave Cheshunt a ray of hope in the 88th minute. Tilbury climbed to fourth thanks to a goal deep into added time which earned them a 1-1 draw at Soham. Michael Simpson scored for Soham after 55 minutes and it was almost enough. But Aaron Matthews fired a dramatic 93rd-minute equaliser from 25 yards, with all 22 players packed into the Soham half of the field. Missed penalties were important in two other games. The bottom two met at Ware and they remain in their positions, with Ware two points adrift at the foot of the table, after a 1-1 draw with Redbridge. Elliott King gave Ware the lead in the 21st minute but Paul Shave’s free-kick levelled it 12 minutes later. Shave later put a spot-kick wide. Needham’s free-scoring Sam Newson missed a late penalty which would have wrapped up a

home victory over Romford and the Marketmen paid the price when Lewis Francis made it 2-2 with a spot-kick at the other end five minutes into added time. Newson had converted the afternoon’s first penalty in the 28th minute and scored again five minutes later. Francis quickly pulled one back with a 20-yard free-kick and it stayed that way until the final moments. Martin McNeil’s header gave Wroxham a 28th-minute lead at Chatham, Matt Solly drilled in the equaliser a minute later and that was that in a 1-1 draw. Witham strolled to a 4-0 home win over Ilford, taking an early lead through Lewis Godbold. The visitors had Kabir Jeetoo sent off before Eric Gbio’s own goal doubled the lead six minutes before the break. Close-range strikes from Rob Whitnell and Tom Devaux wrapped it up in the second half.

Athletic have announced that Paul Dipre has

stepped aside from his duties as first team manager following a 1-0

defeat by Chalfont St Peter in this

season’s FA Cup. Dipre took over as manager in March 2011. While he did

little to improve the club’s league form

during his tenure he did lead Carshalton

on two good cup runs, including a

historic win against Lincoln City in the FA Trophy second

round and a narrow defeat by Woking in a Surrey Senior Cup

HARROp SIGnS FOR WROxHAMRyman League Division One North club Wroxham have secured the signing of midfielder Angelo Harrop. Harrop (pictured) has been at Thurlow Nunn League side Brantham this year, although he made his name playing for Needham Market when they were promoted to the Ryman League and also when they reached the play-off final in the Ryman North last year.

AvELEy GET RASHJustin Gardner, manager of Ryman League Division One North side Aveley, has been able to add the versatile attacker Rashid Kamara to the Millers squad – and hopes another player is on his way. Kamara spent last season with St Neots Town, and can play on either wing and as a striker. Gardner was delighted to bring in Kamara and feels he could make a big difference for the Millers. “Rashid is an exciting

signing for us,” he said. “I feel he will cause a lot of teams in this division a problem and is a player the Aveley fans will enjoy watching.” But the Aveley boss hopes that isn’t the end of his business this week, with another centre back set to arrive at Mill Field in the near future. "I hope to be able to sign a centre back over the next couple of days," he added.

Forest faced a tough challenge in the FA cup after being drawn against Hampton and Richmond. The Beavers have been on good form this season and sit second in the Isthmian League Premier Division, following their relegation from the Conference South last season. Early exchanges in the match gave a preview of what was to follow. The poor pitch condition leading to a scrappy midfield fight for possession. Then, just minutes in, Forest conceded an inconspicuous free kick from all of forty yards out. The Hampton skipper Jenkins tried his luck and his shot rattled the underside of the crossbar. Moments later it was Forest’s turn as a mistake from the Hampton right back gave Joel Palmer a half chance, but his shot was deflected wide for Forest’s first corner of the game. Hampton began to assert their dominance on the match, but the Forest back four stood firm to the challenge, preventing the Beavers from creating any real chances. Aaron Omand seemed to have taken well to his wake up call from Jenkins and the keeper was in fine form rushing off his line to punch and collect crosses on numerous occasions. Although on the back foot, Forest looked threatening at times. Clever footwork from Corey Whitely and a speedy Manu Dagher kept the Hampton defence on their toes as Forest looked to capitalise on the break. With the half petering out into a game of long balls and head tennis much of the vocal away support slipped away to their half time pies. If the first half had lacked action the beginning of the second half went some way

for making up for it. Just minutes in, Forest conceded a penalty after a foul on Hamptons Joe Benjamin. Up stood a nervous looking Darren Powell. After taking what seemed an age to place the ball on the spot the Hamptons number six sent his kick well wide. It was another let off for Forest, but it seemed to spur them on. Adrian Clifton looked in form and Dagher continued to trouble the Beavers back line, taking on defender whenever given the chance. The feeling that there would be a decisive goal grew amongst the crowd as the game began to open up. Despite the best efforts of an animated Olawale Ojelabi on the touchline, Hampton always looked more dangerous. A through ball from Dean Inman presented Charlie Moone with a chance on goal but his shot flew past the post. Moments later a searching ball into Forest’s box saw Moone flash a header just wide. The Hampton number nine was really beginning to look like a threat. Hampton continued to play long searching balls into the Waltham half. Then a great chance fell to Moone. Inside the box the striker turned his man and fired a shot that looked destined for the top corner. Omand produced a fine save turning the ball onto the post before saving the rebound and smothering the ball. Moments later the Forest keeper was called into action again, a through ball found Karle Carder clear on goal. As Carder touch took the ball into the box the Forest keeper was quick off his line, closing down the angle and stopping

Match actionwhat looked like a certain goal. The Forest defence was on its last legs and eventually the pressure took its toll. A route one ball found Charlie Moone, a good touch brought the ball under control and his smart finish in the bottom corner was decisive blow. Forest were unlucky not to take the game to a replay and will be disappointed that their cup run has come to an end. However manager Ojelabi can be proud of a brave, organised performance against a strong Hampton and Richmond side.

JUST MISSED OUT ON A PLAY-OFF PLACE LAST SEASON, HARLOW HAvE MADE AN INDIFFERENT START TO THIS CAMPAIGN

donny Barnard: 28 year old right back whom came up through the youth ranks at Leyton Orient, He was reduced to mainly a substitute place for much of the seasons that he was part of the Leyton Orient first team squad. Donny was released at the end of the 2006–07 season and signed for Grays Athletic. He was then released from Grays Athletic in September 2007, he then signed for AFC Hornchurch in October the same year. In November 2009 Barnard joined Tilbury and was a regular in their first team squad. He joined the Hawks in September 2010 before returning to AFC Hornchurch in September 2011, Donny then returned back to the Hawks in November 2011. In July 2012 he was presented with the club captaincy.

Bertrand Bossu: 31 year old experienced French goalkeeper, who joined the Hawks in August 2011 after a trial at Yeovil Town, his previous clubs include FC Lens, Barnet, Hayes, Gillingham, Darlington, Walsall, Aberdeen & Crewe. His 6’ 7” frame gives him a commanding presence in-between the posts.

daniel Brown: Player/Coach: 31 year old experienced midfielder/Defender who has joined the Hawks in January 2011 from

Conference outfit Eastbourne Borough, He started his career with Leyton Orient before moving onto Barnet in 1999, He then spent two years at Oxford United, Danny was then spent time at Crawley where he was Captain. Following financial difficulties at Crawley he then moved to Cambridge United where he became a mainstay in their midfield. In November 2008 he left for Eastbourne Borough from where he spent 2 seasons.

danny Chapman: Manager - Experienced Defender who has made over 200 appearances for the Hawks having first signed for the club in 2003, after spells with the likes of Barnet and Wingate & Finchley. Chapman left the club in December 2008, but returned in February 2010. Was appointed as the club’s new manager in February 2011.

danny Charles: 21 year old midfielder who signed for the hawks in July 2012. He has had spells with Barton Rovers, Hertford and Stevenage Borough.

Connor Cranmer: 18 year old left back who signed for the Hawks in August 2012. Connor has had previous experience with Southend United and Cochester United and had a spell on loan at Heybridge Swifts last season.

“ “Tonight we are back in League action, having said goodbye to the FA Cup for another year, after our 1-0 defeat to Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday, as we entertain Harlow Town, who have certainly had a chequered few years, in recent times. They moved in to a fabulous new ground after many years of trying to leave the Sports Centre and for a while things looked good, but, a couple of years ago, they had to go into administration and after their ten point deduction they finished in the relegation zone, only to be reprieved (a situation we experienced one season later) and last season there were high hopes of at least a play-off place, the quality of squad certainly seemed to indicate a top five finish was more than possible. But, after a good first half of the season, they fell away badly as the season progressed

and fell some way short of the necessary play of positions. After our defeat against Maldon the previous Tuesday, it was good to see the defence coping so well against a team at the top of the table in the Ryman Premier (they are second on goal difference) and although they probably deserved to go through on the balance of paly, it was very cruel on our lads to concede with just five to go and it would have been nice to have the chance to travel to Hampton to take them on, in their own back yard - with the improved playing surface suiting our team, you never know what might have happened. But, that is in the past and tonight we have to get down to the task of picking up three points against a Harlow side who were inactive on Saturday, having already exited the FA Cup and who's last game was a4-0 FA Trophy defeat to Brentwood at home. So we have a great chance to take them on when confidence is low, but, of course they will be looking to bounce back and get some pride back in their game, starting tonight, so will probably be fired up for this game and with former Forest striker Jeff Hammond in their line up, we will certainly not be

able to take it easy and will have to be on our metal all evening. As well as Hammond, there is another former Forest player in the Harlow ranks, Tony Jacobs - he came from Leyton Orient on work experience, last season, but was recalled before even kicking a ball for us, hopefully, if our defence stay tight, he wont get a kick at all this evening. Certainly, they will not want a repeat of our last meeting, towards the end of last season, when we travelled to their ground after suffering a Bank Holiday hammering by Redbridge in the previous game and were 2-0 down inside twenty minutes, but, showed incredible resilience to get back to level terms by half time and scored the winner in the dying minutes. That defeat, just about extinguished whatever faint hopes they had of making a late bid to get back in to play-off contention. We will need that sort of determination tonight and we have proved quite a few times in the past that when it is required we can raise our game and come up with the right result. Hopefully, we did not seem to pick up any injuries in the game and so Wale will have


a full squad to choose from. Certainly, this season, we seem to have plenty of talented players at our disposal and on our day can play football as good as any in the Division, so we must all hope the team clicks tonight and gives Harlow no opportunity of getting their game together, certainly, until next Saturday at least. If we can get a win tonight, that will move us several places up the table and at this stage of the season, it only takes a couple

of good results to drastically change a club's League position, as well as giving a tremendous boost to the team's confidence. The other reason to hope for a win tonight is that we will be on cup duty again on Saturday in the FA Trophy at Ramsgate and we need the protection of getting a few more places up the table, in case those teams around us not involved in the Trophy manage to pick up some League points.

I don’t think the team will be too down after Saturday and should concentrate on the positives, in the fact that we ran Hampton so close - have only just been edged out by a team from the top of the level above, we should be confident against a side from our own division.

“ “Something that I find bizarre in football is fans who leave before the end of matches when there is no pressing need to do so. I only do it, albeit with a heavy heart, when I might miss the last bus home and subject myself to a walk of at least three miles – which feels like ten – from one side of Bergamo to the other. Otherwise, even if the score is 5-0, I stay to the bitter end. You never know what you might miss. What I fail to understand is supporters making their way home when the score is, say, 1-0 or 1-1. Often they will have been in the ground for anything up to an hour before kick-off but are unwilling to see out the last few minutes. People do not usually walk out of a film just before the denouement or skip the last few pages of a murder mystery, so why leave a football match when the result is still in the balance? My perseverance was rewarded last Sunday when AlbinoLeffe met virtus Entella in Lega Pro Prima Divisione (the third tier of Italian football) in Bergamo.

Between the 89th and 92nd minutes there was more action than you sometimes see in a whole match. Previously it had been a fairly ordinary contest. Massimo Pesenti had given the home team the lead after 38 minutes and Entella’s 18-year-old substitute vittorio Argeri had equalised with six minutes to go. ormally, both teams would then have settled for a draw but when you start with a ten-point penalty, as AlbinoLeffe have done this season, you must always go for the win. So we come to minute number 44 of the second half. AlbinoLeffe’s 19-year-old striker Andrea Belotti is scythed down by Entella defender Alberto Bianchi, who gets a second yellow. Entella replace striker Simone Guerra with Brazilian defender Cesar. The free-kick leads to a corner and when the kick comes in Belotti scores with a thumping header. At this point Entella make another change. This time it is a defender, Filippo de Col, who comes off and is replaced by striker Mirko Chiarabini. Entella surge forward in search of an equaliser and almost get it as AlbinoLeffe scramble the ball away for a corner. Before the kick is taken Entella goalkeeper Andrea Paroni races forward to join his team-mates in the AlbinoLeffe penalty area.

Most of us have seen this desperate move on a number of occasions and we have surely longed to see it result in a goal into an empty net, provided that it is the opposition’s. How often does it actually happen? The corner is cleared and Belotti picks up the ball with the length of the pitch and no opposition players in front of him. He races forward with substitute Simone Pontiggia just behind him to his left. With an Entella player about to catch him and try to dispossess him, he slides the ball across to Pontiggia, who rolls it into the vacant goal. AlbinoLeffe win at home for the first time in ten and a half months. Those who left at 1-0 or 1-1 and expected that to be the final score are astonished when they switch on the Tv and check the results, while those in the 1,062 crowd who stayed to the end can hardly believe what they have just seen. They may also have seen a star of the future. Remember the name Andrea Belotti because he could soon be performing on a much more prestigious stage. He is potentially a big talent. I will finish with an invitation to anybody who is interested in this topic to find out what happened in stoppage time in an FA Cup tie between Dartford and Plymouth Argyle in November 1974.

were relegated from the Ryman League Division 1 North,

while in an effort to reverse the stagna-tion of the ESL, the

FA have placed FC Bari, a former

Sunday League side straight at Step 5.The Essex Senior

League themselves have been quick

to stress that they had no input over

the allocation of FC Bari, and this has

raised questions in many quarters as to how Bari were allowed into the

Pyramid at Step 5, while so many other

teams have tried and failed. The ESL

undoubtedly needs new teams for the league to remain competitive, but the way in which Bari were chosen seems odd to say the least. The club

will be groundshar-ing at Clapton for the forthcoming

season. Despite ru-mours of a potential

resignation, Basil-don United remain

in the league.

dIvISIOn OnE nORTH LInE-UpThe majority of the clubs in the Ryman League Division 1 North for the 2012-13 are the same as those who finished the 2011-12 season. We have lost Leiston and Enfield Town, who have both been promoted to the Premier Division of the Ryman League. At the other end of the table, Great Wakering Rovers have been relegated to the Essex Senior League. Ware, who finished in the second relegation place were given a reprieve by the FA. Coming into the league are Aveley, who were relegated from the Ryman Premier Division, while Witham Town and Wroxham have been promoted from the Essex Senior League and Ridgeons leagues respectively.

RyMAn LEAGUE 2011-12 AWARdSThe Ryman League 2011-12 awards were handed out at the League's an-nual dinner in June. Fair Play winners in each di-vision were Margate, Waltham Abbey and Dulwich Hamlet, while Respect awards went to Tooting, Leiston and, again, Dulwich. The Macron Team Perfor-mance Awards winners were East Thurrock United, who reached the

first round of the FA Cup and also the Alan Boon League Cup final. Red-bridge’s remarkable run to the second round of the FA Cup earned them the Ryman North prize while in the South it provided yet another honour for Dulwich, recognising their achieve-ment in preserving a clean sheet in the Respect markings for almost the whole season while mounting a strong promotion challenge.

Another week, and another flurry of managerial departures in the Football League – so what is making the Non-League game more patient? League Two alone saw two bosses out of a job as AFC Wimbledon rather emotionally sacked Terry Brown and Wycombe Wanderers dismissed Gary Waddock just days later. That now makes it five sackings in the Football League so far with many more bound to come. Blackburn boss Steve Kean looks likely to leave the club after a will he, won’t he debacle that has dragged on, much like the boos from Ewood Park, since the end of last season. Fortunately that trend hasn’t found its way down to Non-League. At The NLP we thankfully do not have to report on too many sackings. But the question surely has to be, why? The simple fact is that Non-League boardrooms are more patient than those higher up the divisions. People often complain, and rightly so, about the lack of money that trickles down from England’s top tiers to the grass-roots game. But in this instance, and many others, the money is one of

the biggest problems. Can a manager really be expected to work his magic over eight games? Most with experience would say no. But as Tv money increases and foreign owners enter the English game, expectation levels are skyrocketing. People in football, especially those who own the chequebooks, want everything now. Instant success is almost a given but as the saying goes: “money isn’t everything”. Owners and chairmen in Non-League understand that and managers on the whole are given more time to get things right which is one of the many reasons why young managers should aim to start their managerial careers in Non-League. From the three Football Conference divisions, we’ve seen just one departure so far this season. Ian Baird lost his job at big-spending Blue Square Bet South side Eastleigh after an indifferent start to the season. Baird had transformed his Spitfires squad with the money injected into the club and that, ultimately, led to his downfall. If you look at the BSB Premier, you’ll see Kidderminster

Harriers propping up the rest of the table. With five draws and five defeats from their opening ten games, it hasn’t been the start Steve Burr and Kiddy wanted, or hoped for. However, despite being tipped for the play-offs in pre-season, the Harriers board have stuck by their man as he searches for the answers. Everybody knows Burr is a top manager and one of the best in Non-League but sometimes things take a while to turn around. If this were the Championship would he still have a job? I think we all know the answer to that one. Common sense seems to have disappeared from the majority of the Football League but thankfully for us, Non-League on the whole still gets it right.


OLAWALE OJELABI - MAnAGERNow in his second spell at the club. Wale had a distinguished playing career, appearing for Chesham, Maidenhead, St Albans, Horsham and Enfield Town amonst others. Was made player manager in January 2009, but left the role at the start of the 2009/10 season. Rejoined in December 2010.

COLIn WALTOn - ASSISTAnT MAnAGERJoined in July 2012, Colin had been manager at Ilford for 2 ½ years having joined them from Clapton. Colin is a firm believer in the Respect programme.

MATT WALdROn - COACH / dEFEndERDefender now in his third spell as at the club. His first spell was in his 2001-2 season under Colin Richards, but left at the end of the season to join up with past Chairman, Terry Back. When Back became chairman of Forest, it signaled the return of fan’s favorite Waldron, who played almost every game at the back under Danny Honeyball. Unfortunately for Forest, Matt followed Honeyball to Arlesey Town, but is now back for a third time. Was voted Clubman of the year for the 2006-7 season.

LUCELTA EUGEnE - pHySIOTHERApISTAlso joined from Ilford to fulfil this vital role. Was a "Gamesmaker" at the ExCel in the 2012 Olympics.

AAROn OMAnd - GOALKEEpERYoung ‘keeper who joined the club in July 2011. Has experience with Chehsunt, Heybridge Swifts and Leyton amongst others.

When Hakan Heyrettin moved to Thurrock, the midfielder, who can equally play up front, found first-

team chances limited, and moved to Tilbury at the start of the 2008-9 season. Now 24, Taylor made a substantial number of appearances for the Dockers, but again found first-team chances hard to come by, so moved to back to Forest.

Thanks to the Trophy draw, our next away trip is a proper Big Day Out to Ramsgate, and this offers a real treat for ale fans with no fewer than six pubs in the Good Beer Guide. The Artillery Arms in Westcliff Road is a cosy traditional pub with locally-brewed Gadd’s beers on tap, which can also be sampled at the Montefiore Arms in Trinity Place (several-times Thanet CAMRA Pub of the Year – nearest station Dumpton Park) and at the Sir Stanley Gray in nearby Pegwell village. Back in Ramsgate itself, the Churchill Tavern in The Paragon overlooks the marina and has seven handpumps to choose from, the tiny Conqueror Alehouse in Grange Road specialises in local ales and cider straight from the cask, and the Great Tree in Margate Road is a pub with a difference – owned by opera singer Scheherazade Pesante and offering snacks, Puerto Rican food, and a selection of Chinese and Japanese teas and coffees as well as a great choice of beers and ciders. Phew - should be quite a day, but be warned – if you’re going by train, both the station and the ground are a fair old hike from the town centre, but the Conqueror and the Great Tree are both reasonably near both. Our next away trip after our seaside jaunt is to Brentwood, where hopefully the Essex Arms by the station

will have reopened after its refit. A short walk up the hill towards the town, the Brewery Tap in Primrose Hill is worth a look in, while on the way to the ground the Rising Sun in Ongar Road is a comfortable, welcoming community pub offering a range of guest beers, which on our last visit included local Brentwood ales and the welcome return of Ridley’s. Well worth the stop-off, especially as there’s no pub remotely near the ground and no real ale or decent bottled beers in the club bar.

Make your way to the M2 and head east. The motorway ends at junction7 and becomes the A299. Continue on the A299 to the outskirts of Ramsgate (Canterbury Road West) and at roundabout junction with A256 turn right then first left into Canterbury Road East (Lord of The Manor pub n the right). Aty next roundabout take 2nd exit (still Canterbury Road East), then at next roundabout take 2nd exit onto B2054 (London Road). Then take 3rd left into St Mildred’s Road, then 1st left into Queen Bertha Road. After right hand bend turn left into Southwood Road and then 1st left into Princes Avenue.

By Public Transport

Make your way to Stratford International Station and take Southeastern train towards Dover to Ashford International. Change to Southeastern train to Ramsgate. There are some trains from Startford towards Margate that go to Ramsgate without changing. (usually at 49 minutes past the

hour). From Ramsgate Station turn right into Wilfred Road, and right into St Lawrence Park Road, then 1st left into Grange Road. Then right into Ashburham Road and left into Southwood Road. Princes Avenue is on the right. Direct trains take about 60 minutes from Stratford and you should allow 30 minutes to walk to the ground.

There will be a coach to this match leaving Redbridge Station at 11.00 am.
