Wandsworth
We hope everyone has enjoyed a good start to the new term. We have been very busy
here at playtime. Little Boppers and Pre-school have switched classrooms and the
children are enjoying their new resources. Our new EYFS board in the hall is proving
popular with parents and we will continue to update this weekly.
Community Weeks!
We love at playtime when everyone gets involved in
fun days and events!
We have enjoyed participating in grandparents’ day
where the children made special cards for their loved
ones. The children have enjoyed taking part in Crazy
hair day and even made some funny hair hats to
wear.
Playtime children also took part in raising money for
children with genetic disorders by wearing jeans on
Genes for jeans day.
We have some fun events planned in the upcoming
weeks such as world animal day and national library
week. Don’t forget to check out the local library’s
website for any upcoming events planned.

Focused activity of the month
Our focus for the month of August has been Carnival. Each room celebrated in different ways. From
making their own patties to decorating masks and even making a carnival float!! The children really enjoyed
celebrating carnival and learning about ways in which we celebrate through dancing and music to bright
coloured costumes. In September we are all learning about Autumn and making the most of our wonderful
garden.
Mini Tots
Mini tots had lots of fun in August turning the
classroom into a circus! They had sensory play
with popcorn and decorated their own popcorn
pictures. The children enjoyed creating 3D candy
floss paintings with glue and shaving foam. They
also decorated and made a circus photo prop and
took some lovely pictures which were put on
display outside. The children also had fun
strengthening their physical development playing
bowling and ring toss games.
In September the children are learning about
autumn and have made some lovely pictures using
conkers to roll in the paint. They are continuing to
explore and learn about autumn using all their
senses.
Little Gems
Little Gems in August have been
celebrating Carnival. Little gems got
messy decorating their own t-shirts in
bright colours splashing and mixing the
paint. They enjoyed making vegetable and
beef patties. Yum!
The children had fun getting messy with
shaving foam looking for hidden number
and letters.
Little gems are learning all about nature in
September. They enjoyed collecting leaves
from the garden which they incorporated
into their artwork.
Please can parents bring in any recyclable materials?
Cardboard boxes or tubes would be great. We love to re-
use here at playtime. That empty box could be transformed
into a bus or a castle. Also wooden spoons, clothes and pine
cones can be used to make treasure baskets for our little
gems.
Little Boppers
In August little boppers made their own post box and painted it a very bright red! They practised their
fine motor skills by writing letters and had a little visit to the post box to see if they had any letters of
their own waiting for them.
The children were learning all about people who help us. Focusing on the fire brigade and the police. They
made their own police badges and enjoyed turning the role play area into a police station.
In September little boppers have been learning all about autumn. Exploring the changes in the leaves and
weather.
The children have particularly enjoyed playing in the garden looking for fallen leaves and conkers.
Pre-School
Pre-school children have enjoyed their new classroom
and are enjoying learning about autumn. They have had
fun going on a squirrel acorn hunt combining physical
play with mathematics with each acorn numbered. They
are focusing on the sounds A, B and S. Matching
different items to the sounds they make.
The children have been leaf painting using sponges and
real leaves. Looking at the shapes and patterns they can
make.
Pre-school Uniform
Uniform for pre-school is now mandatory. On your
child’s 3rd birthday you will receive the first one
free. If you need to make any uniform orders you
can email Michelle at
[email protected] or Aimee at
Playtime had an exciting visit from the fire brigade in August.
The children were able to sit on the fire engine and the fire firefighters talked to the children
about their role in tackling fires and showed the children all the equipment on the fire engine.
The children were given stickers and some fun worksheets all about their visit. They enjoyed asking
questions and they even dressed up as fire fighters too!
