DATES TO

REMEMBER

Good Afternoon Parents/Carers,

As we head towards the end of Term 3 I see students working very hard every day to achieve their set learning goals. Teachers are busy ensuring that goals are set, met and developed in order for their students to achieve success. As I visit classrooms I see just how focused and engaged students are.

Our 40th Birthday celebrations concluded with a fantastic evening of entertainment by all students in presenting ‘Wanguri the Musical’. This was a great way to showcase our music program and the school band. Students thoroughly enjoyed performing for their audience and should be commended on their outstanding behaviour during rehearsals and the main event. Well done to Mr King for planning, teaching, coordinating and directing this wonderful event. After the musical we all sang ’Happy Birthday’ to Wanguri and were treated to a colourfully decorated, yummy chocolate mud cake in the shape of our barramundi sculpture.

Last Friday our BEAT choir members enjoyed the success of their hard work by performing at the BEAT Festival, held at the Darwin Entertainment Centre. We were very proud that once again Wanguri Primary School students participated an event that not only showcases our students’ talent but of students from many NT schools. Many thanks to our Music teacher Mr King for the time he has given to the BEAT rehearsals and training our choir.

If you have a child who will turn four before 30 June 2017 and would like to enquire about enrolling at Wanguri Preschool you can make an enquiry by phone on 89271655, pick up an enrolment pack from the front office or download the forms from our website http://web.ntschools.net/w/wanguri/Pages/Home.aspx

Our Year Our Year Our Year Our Year 6 Shirts6 Shirts6 Shirts6 Shirts This year the Year 6 classes designed another amazing shirt. We all had a say in how the shirt would look, it was a long process to design and be made. The final look of the shirts is great. We started designing at the very beginning of the year. We drew our designs of what it would look like from back to front and added colour. The teachers picked 15-20 shirts that were different from each other. Then we voted for our favourite one. Two Year 6 students won the front and back design of the shirts. The shirts were meant to come the first week after the holidays but because they were so detailed it took longer to make. We really like our shirts and enjoy wearing them. By Isma Majid & Jessica Moon

5/6 Draper Automatas

Over the last few weeks, our class was studying the Diary of Anne Frank. As part of our Design and Technology unit, we made automatas of a selected scene in the book. We learnt how they would work and based our movement off of that. The materials we had to work with were a cardboard box, satay sticks, straws, hot glue, tape, paint and some of us used string. Some of the movements were really simple, but some of them were really complicated. As well as making them, we also had to record every change we put on our automatas (e.g; using straws instead of satay sticks, or leaving out the cogs when we planned to use them) and work on our diagrams. We put a lot of work into them. Most of our expectations did not meet up with the reality, but they were still great.

Hello Defence Families,

Do you know someone in uniform who is confident to speak at our Remembrance Day assembly on November 11? Perhaps you? It has been a busy year for defence in Darwin so I am trying to find someone from within our school community to participate. If you or your partner or friend feel you can participate, please contact me. I can

help with content if needed.

We have been busy talking about the power of smiles in Defence Club. How do we make them? And what are the practical things we can do to spread them. We read the book One Smile by Cindy McKinley and are working on a

display that spreads news!

Make sure you check out Billeroy Community Centres activities and get involved. They have lots of exciting

things coming up. I will keep you posted.

Remember to keep me posted with what is going on with you. If you are leaving please let me know so I can

farewell your children properly.

Cheers,

Veronica Merton
