War Paint Lyrics Analysis
I can hear the shots when the fireworks soarAnd the sounds of the battle drop down
Know I'm on top when the arrows are drawnThe sergeant's on the saddle
This ain’t the type of love that sees a lot of give and takeYet I don’t know how we push and pull but I know
we'll never breakBang bang, I can hear the shots
But I like the way you feel in the flames of the candle
In the first verse here, it is full of imagery to explain what she is singing about; however it would be easy to interpret it into something else to tell a different story.
Highlighted in red is a part of the song that I thought was very quick and jumpy, this could mean that we would have a lot of variety of editing, either fast or challenging it by making it slow motion.
When the text in orange is said we could jump cut to the beat and make the music video more interesting.
Too late to leave these wallsThis castle's been surrounded
Wont stay to watch it fall around usCHORUS:
Bring the big guns out, shoot nowI'll make the drums beat harder for you
Bare it on the ground, bleed outI'll rub the colours on my face it prove
I sing it like, woah -oah -oah -oahWatch me put my war paint on (my war paint on)
Woah -oah -oah -oahWatch me put my war paint on (my war paint on)
The part of the lyrics that is highlighted in purple is repeated throughout the song within the chorus and this makes it catchy. To keep continuity in out video we could use the same location to lip sync every time the line is repeated.
Again, the verse is versatile in a way that it could fit many genres. If it was taken literally it would be a narrative; however it could also be concept or image.
I move my troops on the mapWhen your allies and your tribes, are tellin you to leave
meThey wont see my plan of attack, cause this is our fight
Love is not the enemyEverything that you kill me somehow makes me feel alive
So take the gun, I'm your Bonnie, you can be my ClydeI know that you feel the same
So paint it on your face, and baby let the world seeToo late to leave these wallsThis castle's been surrounded
Wont stay to watch it fall around us
In the blue highlighted text it is easy to define a narrative and shows a lot of descriptive text.
In the green highlighted text it has some context in it from the early 1900s criminals Bonnie and Clyde, who loved each other a lot. This can be used in a narrative to show the relationship of the characters in the music video. In the red text it is repeated and is the bridge to the
chorus. Again, we could use continuity by using the same clips for the same part of the song, or we could change it and making it different. The rest of the song is
repeating the chorus.
