Relative Clauses

Imagine you are in the pyramid standing with your good friend and you see your boyfriend or girlfriend talking to a member of the opposite sex whom you don’t know.

What do you want to know?

• Who is that person my boyfriend/girlfriend is talking to?

• Do you know that person?

How can we say this in an easier way?

Person or Place

• We use who to refer to a person or place.

• I like the teacher. Which teacher? • I like the teacher who wears glasses.

• Who is a relative pronoun and the underlined part of the sentence is a relative clause.

That/Which

2. We use that or which for things or animals.

• I always use the computer. The computer is near the window. Ex: I always use the computer that/which is near the window.
