School Captains 2018

Our School Captains for the 2018 school year

were announced at Monday’s Assembly.

Congratulations to Cassie and Eden. Our

School Captains will chair SRC Meetings, lead

various whole school events e.g. assemblies,

assist me to promote our school, attend special

functions and attend various school meetings.

In selecting our School Captains there were

many skills and personal qualities taken into

account by all staff. I am confident that Eden

and Cassie will be wonderful student leaders

and fine ambassadors for Warrandyte Primary

School next year. Our current School Captains

Scout and Lily have been exemplary leaders this

year and fabulous role models for our future

2018 captains.

December Reports

December reports (and portfolios) will be sent

home on Tuesday 19 December.

You will notice that in some subject areas of the

reports there is not a 12 month progression

shown on the progression point table. In the last

12 months, DET schools have changed their

curriculum from AusVELS to the Victorian

curriculum.

The difference in some areas of the curriculum is so great it cannot be compared to previous years.

Progression in the last 12 months is shown in English and Maths.

I know you will find these to be most informative and a celebration of what your child has achieved

this year. I have read all of the reports and was most impressed with the academic rigor and

achievement evident across all levels.

Parent Helpers’ Morning Tea

A Parent Helpers’ Morning Tea will be held on Tuesday 19 December in the BAMPI for all parents

who have assisted staff and provided support with various programs throughout the school this year.

This is just one way that our staff can say a special thank you to our parents and voluntary helpers

that do so much to benefit our students and our school. Thank you!

Staffing 2018

Next week, I will publish our staffing for next year. We are currently in the process of finding a

replacement for Coralie in Out of Hours Care and hope to have this finalised before the end of next

week.

Congratulations

Recently, Billy (3/4C) achieved the prestigious, Grey Wolf Award from Scouts Victoria. To receive

the award Billy must show initiative, a sustained effort over many months, self-discipline, teamwork

and leadership. These are wonderful qualities that all of our students should aspire to. Congratulations

Billy, a truly amazing effort, well done.

And finally a sincere thank you to Tim Curnow and Mat Greenhill for assisting in cleaning up the

stage area in preparation for carols.

SRC Committee

The SRC Committee have a ‘Wishing Tree’ at

the school office. We would like you to donate

toys that are worth re-giving. The toys will be

donated to the Salvation Army. We are hoping

that everyone is willing to donate something.

We are requesting that all toys are wrapped and

placed under the tree.

Thank you for your support.

Performing Arts News

Don't miss the Channel Seven broadcast of this

year's Victorian State Schools Spectacular

highlights on Saturday 16 December from 7:00

- 9:00pm. The show will also be simulcast via

livestreaming on the PLUS7 app and be

available on the PLUS7 catch-up website for 30

days. Warrandyte Primary School was proud to have

eighteen Year 5 and 6 students representing the

school in the Mass Dance at this year’s

Spectacular.

WPS Christmas Carols - Tonight

All students from Foundation to Grade

6 are rehearsing songs to share with

their families at this year’s Carols

Night to be held at the school’s

outdoor stage tonight.

There will be some fun activities prior to the

singing organised by FOWPS, but all students

are required to sit with their classroom teachers

from 7.15pm for a prompt 7.30pm start. The

program is expected to take under an hour, so

please give our performers your full attention

during this time and allow time for enjoying a

chat with other families either before or after

the performance.

Students are asked to wear Christmas colours

(white, red and green) with a touch of

decoration. This might include a Santa hat,

reindeer antlers, tinsel, etc.

Students should bring along a small cushion or

towel to sit on (and you might like to spray

them with insect repellent prior to the

performance!). As the evening is expected to be

quite warm, please bring along a water bottle

– but all food should be eaten by the students

prior to or after the performance.

Many thanks for your support!

Warrandyte Community Carols

FINAL Reminder

Any Warrandyte Primary School student, who

would like to sing with me on stage at the

Community Carols at Stiggants Reserve on

Saturday December 16th, is welcome. I am

performing two songs with some of the School

Bushband instrumental players accompanying

me. After the first song, children from our

school can join me on stage to sing

‘Warrandyte Christmas’. The performance

will begin just after 8.00pm. The children who

intend to perform should know the words of

the song. Please ensure your child is at the side

of the stage at 7.50pm. Assistance may be

needed in organising the children, let me know

if you can help out.

Final practice is at school on Friday 15

December at 3.00pm.

Many thanks & have a wonderful Christmas

with your family.

Sick Bay Laundry

Natalie Dunkley is the lucky mum this week.

She is entitled to come up and change the linen

and return it next week all fresh for us.

Canteen News

A reminder to parents, please double check

coins that are put into lunch order bags. Just in

past weeks I am short almost $5 as I received

New Zealand coins. The canteen does not make

a lot of money and every time I receive foreign

coins it has a huge impact on my costs.

I would really appreciate your assistance with

this.

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish

all WPS families a very Merry Christmas and a

Safe & Happy New Year.

Please Note the Canteen will NOT be open on

the last day, Friday 22 December.

HELP THE HOMELESS

Together we can make a

difference

What : We are collecting items such

as soap, sunscreen, tissues,

toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant,

feminine hygiene products, beanies,

clothing, socks etc to give to

homeless people

Why : To help those less fortunate

than us to feel noticed and worthy of

the right to feel clean.

Where : We have a donation box a

the office.

Before & After Care

News

My last ‘official’ comments as the Co-ordinator

of a most extraordinary OSHC program.

30 years ago I began as an assistant and within

a year I became Co-ordinator, a role I have

thoroughly enjoyed and grown into. The

OSHC sector has changed so much in my time,

namely becoming regulated, I believe (in spite

of all the stress it caused me) this has brought

about a great improvement in recognising the

role OSHC programs play.

Can I once more thank everyone related to

making my retirement party so amazing, from

set-up, pack-up, kitchen duty, serving and your

beautiful gifts, truly I was overwhelmed and

still feel that way. To all those I didn’t get to

catch up with on the night I apologise.

In spite of the inclement weather you still came

to say goodbye to me. Thank you!! I can

honestly say I have been blessed in my work,

all the committed educators in OSHC, the

fabulous WPS staff and of course all my

families and their amazing children, truly I have

loved them and cared for them as my own.

Thank you for entrusting them to our OSHC

program.
