President’s Message

As President for the 2013-2014 year, I welcome you and encourage you to join me in this year’s focus: “Nurturing The Roots”

[through Education, Information, and Inclusion]

As we go in to this exciting New Year, I am particularly aware of the value of our members, old and new, and their obvious commitment to each other, our organization, and the elevation of women everywhere.

Despite busy lives and sometimes challenging personal circumstances, your Local Organization leaders are planning and implementing programs for your 2013-2014 year. Across the state, many of our Locals have chosen to continue meeting this summer, instead of taking the traditional 2 month break, and the meeting logistics are as diverse as the local groups themselves. I encourage you all to attend other meetings when you can. In addition, this year the Local Presidents are meeting and sharing their considerable wealth of knowledge with each other. Programs and experiences can only be better than ever with all of the time, energy, and knowledge being contributed by your local leaders.

Fall Board and Winter Board committees are busy with their plans. These will be events with solid content and experiences to benefit us personally and contribute to our Local Organizations as well. Look for your Call to Conference and register as soon as possible. Early registrations allow your leaders to better prepare for everyone’s benefit.

Our Evergreens (Past State Presidents) are also making themselves known around the state. Since our May Conference, they have met and created truly ambitious plans to be active and involved resources to our locals and at our conferences. I invite you all to look to your Evergreens as the valuable resources they are.

Your Executive Committee has met, and some Committee Chairs and Local Presidents were able to attend. These Board members are a welcome addition to our Executive Committee meetings. The content provided by them allow us to be more timely and effective with our plans and decisions.

Fall Board will be an event with important information about the work of leaders and members all over the state. We meet to enrich and support each other, and to acknowledge the great progress we are all making. I encourage you to make this Fall Board an event to be long remembered by attending and participating.

Blessings on you all, Teresa M (Terry) Ray

Past State President’s Help Locals A formal list has been set up to help mentor members and/or Locals by the Past State Presidents (also known as Evergreens). Evergreens are a valuable BPW/WA resource and each Local has been assigned one to assist where needed. This help can be in the form of advice, helping with an event or committee, speaking at a meeting, greeting prospective members, or giving a historical perspective of what has occurred in the past to help with the future. The Local determines the need for help from an Evergreen. Evergreen selection is based on their geography, membership in the Local, or by their request. The following Evergreens are at the service of the assigned Locals below.

Bellevue – Sylvia Valine ……………………….. Campus – Margaret Way Greater Everett – Carolyn Leeper ……………… Port Orchard – Lynne Sturman Renton – Luanne Green ……………………….... Republic – Virginia Murphy South Puget Sound – Milly Lewendon …….……. Wenatchee – Virginia Murphy South West Seattle – Frankie Anderson ………..... Woodinville – Robyn Whitaker

Republic BPW

BPW has been a part of Republic since 1942 and I have been a part of BPW since 1989.

In Republic we have chosen a variety of projects along the way to support and improve our community and currently have a group of women that are involved in a multitude of ventures in and outside of BPW.

It is our goal to help the women in our community, whether through scholarships, working with high school seniors on the job or scholarship application process, or providing for families at Christmas to name a few.

I am a pharmacist-owner by day, and a community support person by night. I truly enjoy giving to the community that has given to our children so willingly. We have 3 boys that will all be in college this fall (UofW, WSU, and University of Montana) so I am hoping to have a little time to attend BPW functions when we are not at football games!!!!

-- Patty Slagle, President, Republic BPW

Go surfing … discover BPWWA.org!

There are exciting new changes happening on our web site this year: more color, greater usability, more information, and internal source enhancements to automate all pages from one page. Make your life easier as a BPW/WA member by going to the bpwwa.org web site and use it to find out what’s new and educate yourself and prospective new members on what BPW/WA is all about. Use and make bpwwa.org work for you!

The links at the top of the page and the side panel are easy to follow and understand. There is a wealth of information to study whether you are a new or prospective member. The web site lists not only BPW programs, benefits, contacts, events, speakers, PAC and Foundation information, but links to BPW/WA Local web sites and BPW Foundation USA.

The Member Only pages list important internal information that all members should know about and use such as the BPW/WA Roster, Yearly Calendar, Treasurer’s Forms, Bylaws, Membership Tips, and a lot more. The member information is organized by National, State, Local, and General information. You can also access past WBW magazines since 2009 or view event pictures that you may have missed.

To go to the For Members Only pages, do the following 3 easy steps:

On the internet, go to www.bpwwa.org.

Click on the Member Login link at the top right corner of any page.

Click on the Secure Access link and type in the User Name and Password.

(Note: You can contact your Local President or the Webmaster to obtain these.)

Enjoy browsing on one of two member pages. As you will see, they are packed with information. Because these are member pages, the Webmaster would be glad to add information that needs to be shared throughout BPW/WA and is of an internal nature. Click on [email protected] at the bottom of any page to send an email with information, questions, or suggestions.
