Washington Series| Acrylic

The classic acorn style street light has adorned metropolitan

avenues and town streets for nearly a century.

While maintaining the traditional shape of the original early 20th

Century acorns, the Acrylic Washington PostLite® luminaire consists

of modern prismatic HID acrylic. The acrylic optics have been

engineered and tested to fit Holophane’s seven ornamental

housings, giving the customer a choice of styles with modern

technologies.

The Holophane designed Acrylic Washington PostLite luminaire’s optical

system provides high values of vertical illumination, which in turn lead

to excellent uniformity, an open visual environment, and maximum pole

spacing. This is achieved by Holophane’s precisely engineered prismatic

structure, which is molded into the acrylic globe itself. Ultimately, the

result is an effectively illuminated setting that promotes positive night-

time activity with improved safety, security, and ambiance.

In addition to providing maximum lighting efficiency, the prismatic

pattern spreads the lamp image over the entire globe which, in turn,

allows it to appear wholly luminous and visually comfortable.

The Acrylic Washington PostLiteSeries meets the classic styling of the past, yet has the state-of-the-artmechanical design to make installation and maintenance easier.Specifically, the electrical componentsare mounted on the housing doorwhich can be completely removed bysimply loosening two screws andunplugging a single electrical disconnect. The removable door issupported by a retaining hook,which engages a bracket mountedon the housing so that connectionsand repairs can be made withouthaving to hold the ballast components in hand.

A black acrylic decorative top(Tucson style) or a painted aluminumtop option is available as well to provide a unique appearance andsignificantly reduce direct uplightcomponent.

Optical AssemblyThe optical assembly is a precisely molded acrylicreflector and refractor. The upper portion of thissystem incorporates a series of reflecting prismsthat redirect over 50% of the upward light intothe controlling refractor while allowing a softuplight component to define the traditionalacorn shape. A decorative aluminum top cover isavailable. The lower portion uses precisely moldedrefracting prisms to control the distribution oflight to maximize utilization, uniformity, andluminaire spacing. Three unique optical assemblies are available, designed for IES type III,type IV, and type V distribution.

Luminaire HousingA decorative leaf style cast aluminum luminairehousing, cradles the optical assembly and providesan enclosure for the plug-in electrical module.The nickel plated lamp grip socket and the threestation incoming line terminal block are prewiredto a five conductor receptacle for ease in connecting the electrical module. A slipfitter willaccept a 3 inch high by 2-7/8 inch to 3-1/8 inchO.D. pipe tenon.

Electrical Module/Luminaire Housing DoorThe decorative leaf style cast aluminum housingdoor contains the ballast components and is heldin place by two captive 1/4-20 stainless steelscrews. A matching six conductor plug connectsto the receptacle in the luminaire housing tocomplete the wiring. The door has a hook which,when engaged over a retaining bar in the luminaire housing, allows both hands to be freewhile making or breaking connections.

Ballast(Refer to Ballast Data Sheet for specific operatingcharacteristics) 150 watt and below 120 voltHigh Pressure Sodium (HPS) ballasts are HighPower Factor High Reactance. All other 150 wattand below are High Power Factor Autotransformer(CWA) type. 250 and 400 watt HPS ballasts areLead type. All Metal Halide (MH) ballasts are PeakLead Autotransformer type.

Finish/MaterialThe luminaire is finished with polyester powderpaint applied after a seven stage pretreatmentprocess to insure maximum durability. All castingsutilize alloy #356 aluminum for maximum corrosion resistance and all exposed hardware isstainless steel.

UL Listing The luminaire is UL listed as suitable for wet locations at a maximum of 40°C ambient temperature.
