!We still produce huge quantities of solid waste everyday!

How can we reduce the volume of disposal waste?
IncinerationIncineration
☆Volume reduced ~90%
Solid waste: 13,503 tons
Landfills Incineration2
Solid Waste Disposal Rate 16,000 tons/day (2008)1 3,000 tons/day
Area of Land Used 270 ha. 10 ha.
Construction Cost 6 billion 4 billion
Operation Cost 490 million/year (2008)1 250 million
Derived Pollution Air pollution: methane Water pollution: leachate Soil pollution: decomposition of biodegradable waste
Air pollution: dioxin & ash
Advantages -Handle more solid waste in a same time-Land reuse-Methane
-Save cost-Decrease about 90% volume of solid waste-Energy is recovered for electricity generation -Advanced technology on eliminating pollutants
Disadvantages Other Than Pollution
-Consume huge area-Landfill areas cannot reuse in short period & topsoil required regular maintenance-Non-sustainable, require to find another new site upon it filled
-Extra works required to handle the non-combustible leftovers after incineration process
Remarks: 1 & 2 – Data collected from Environmental Protection Department on 2008 Statistic. 3 – Expected performance of a typical advanced incinerator.
☆Less Disposal Waste
☆ Volume reduced by incinerator
