identification of financing schemes and provision of other support mechanisms in the areas of commerce,

Portable and affordable bioassay for water chemical pollutants detection

A research group from a Spanish university has developed a bioassay for the detection of pollution in municipal
and industrial water resources by means of visual or optical procedures. It consists of microorganisms
supported in an absorbent matrix facilitates the redox reaction and the following analysis detection avoiding
limitations of current gold standard method. The research group is looking for industrial partners interested in
a license agreement to commercialize this technology.
Mobile wastewater filtration device for on-site recycling of process water

An Austrian SME has developed a mobile filtration device to treat and reuse process water from construction
and cleaning applications. The mobile plant can be provided as a container or trailer solution and reduces
wastewater disposal by up to 90%. A European patent has been granted and the technology is already available

New method for wastewater nitrogen removal based in an improved anammox process
Spain (TOES20151020001)
A Catalan research group has developed a method for the removal of wastewater nitrogen based in the
anammox process. It consists of performing a partial nitritation of wastewater in a separate biofilm reactor,
avoiding the oxidation of nitrite to nitrate (main side reaction of anammox process) and thus enhancing the
efficiency of the nitrogen wastewater removal. It is applicable at full scale in municipal treatment plants.

Ecological filter based on zeolites for obtaining drinking water

without artificial filters and chemical additives

A Russian company from Novosibirsk developed a technology for production of an automated devices for
making clean and healthy drinking water. The treatment method is based on the principle of natural water
purification through freezing and melting, without artificial filters and chemical additives. The company is

Method for enhancing nitrogen removal efficiency in aerobic granular sequencing batch reactors in sewage
treatment plants

A Catalan research group has developed a new method to enhance wastewater nitrogen removal efficiency in
aerobic granular sequencing batch reactors. The method consists of a closed loop system controlling the
dissolved oxygen (DO) by means of software that performs DO set point value automatic calculation based on
ammonium values at the end of the cycle. An increase of nitrogen removal efficiency from 48% to 75% has
been achieved. Industrial partners interested in a license agreement are sought.

5 European Water Networks WSSTP - Water Supply and Sanitation Technology Platform
The Water Supply and Sanitation Technology Platform (WSSTP) is one of the technology platforms that are set
up within the European Environmental Technology Action Plan (ETAP) that was adopted by the European
Commission in 2004. It is a European initiative, open to all stakeholders involved in European water supply and
sanitation and major end-user groups. The participants in the platform will together produce a common vision
document for the whole European water industry together with a strategic research agenda and an
implementation plan for the short (2010), medium (2020) and long term (2030). The WSSTP will contribute to:
• the competitiveness of the European water industry (Lisbon Strategy);
• solving the European water problems;
• reaching the Millennium Development Goals (Johannesburg).

NWP - Netherlands Water Partnership
The Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) is a comprehensive
network that unites Dutch water expertise. The partnership,
consisting of 200 members from private companies, government, knowledge institutes and NGOs, acts as a
centre of information on water expertise, policy developments and market opportunities. But NWP is more
than an information source; the organization also initiates, coordinates and executes projects for its members,
such as trade missions, exhibitions and conferences.
By putting our heads together as a network, we can achieve more in solving global water related challenges.
A united voice is stronger than 200 individual voices. Moreover, by entering markets in clusters, offering
expertise as a one-stop-shop, Dutch companies increase their world market share considerably. In the

WATER FORUM OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY It is created to promote the cooperation between companies, public agents and
investigation centres around the water sector in the Basque Country, focused on the
identification and preparation of innovative projects that drive the technological
development and the streghtening of the competitivity of the Environmental sector
in the Basque Country.
The Water Forum functionaly depends on Aclima, with no legal entity, and is
assembled as a work program, in coordination with the Basque Water Agency URA, who will lead the Forum,
collaborating with the rest of participants.
The general goal is to promote the cooperation between the agents of the water value chain in the Basque
Country for the development of actions and projects of common interest, with special orientation to the ones
with innovative nature that streghten the competitivity of the companies, as much in the Basque Country as
abroad. And that support the achievement of the goals of the basque public organizations in the water
management field.

TNAV - Thematisch Netwerk Afvalwaterzuiveringstechnologie Vlaanderen
TNAV, the Flanders Water Technology Network was created in 2003 with the support of IWT-Vlaanderen, the
Flemish government agency for Innovation by science and technology. The network welcomes any company
involved in water technologies, either directly or indirectly, and with operations in Belgium.
The raison d’être of the network is improved competitiveness of member companies through (the promotion
of) innovation. TNAV also supports and counsels companies looking for financial funding and advice from e.g.
IWT. Together with its members TNAV is actively involved in several research projects and strives for
cooperation with other organisations wherever possible. As technology watch, TNAV anticipates developments
in water related technologies
TNAV is proud to count a growing number of extraordinary members within its ranks, most of these being
research centres (university colleges and institutes, such as VITO i.e. the Flanders Public Institute for
Technological Development). The Flow of Technology-baseline chosen by TNAV would be meaningless, if not
for their input, culminating in the annual Academia-Meets-Industry event.
Currently (May 2011) TNAV has 90 members, 13 ordinary member companies (the technology providers), 53
associate members and 24 extraordinary members.

German Water Partnership
The German Water Partnership is a platform that coordinates
activities in the field of water management, promotes innovation and
pools information.
It is a joint initiative of the German private and public sectors, and serves as a platform through which
commercial enterprises, government and non-government organizations, scientific institutions and water-
related associations can exchange data about their activities and services. The fundamental aim of the German
Water Partnership is to ensure that the activities and initiatives of the German water management sector are
consolidated and promoted all over the world. The German Water Partnership is both an operational
headquarters and a contact point for international enquiries relating to the range of products offered by the
German water management sector.
