WATER RESOURCES

and BIODIVERSITY

Page 2: Water resources and biodiversity (WATERSHED)

In your own words, what is

resources?

Page 3: Water resources and biodiversity (WATERSHED)

Differentiate resources made by humans and those gathered

from nature.

BODIES OF WATER• The occurrence of the monsoon is the

results of the interactions of these landmasses and bodies of water with the atmosphere.

• Bodies of the water that surround the Philippines are the sources of seasonal rain that fall on land.

Water ResourcesEffect of Water1. It have a moderating effect on land

temperature or on climate.2. Oceans and large lakes heat up and cool

down more slowly than the land masses.3. In summer, a body of water remains cooler

than the land surrounding it.4. Winds blowing from over the water keep

the surrounding countryside cooler than it would be if the water body was not present.

Water ResourcesPeople need fresh water for many

purposes:

1. For irrigation and for industries2. To generate electricity3. Sustain all sorts of organisms and

from soil4. For recreation or its aesthetic value

Where does water in your community come from?

Page 13: Water resources and biodiversity (WATERSHED)

Where does water from rivers, lakes

and springs originate?

WATERSHED--an area that feeds into surface and

underground waters.-- an area of land on a slope which drains its

water into a stream and its tributaries.

Page 15: Water resources and biodiversity (WATERSHED)

WATERSHED-- come in all shapes and sizes.-- are not just water. It may include

combination of forest, grassland marshes and other habitats.

Some factors that will affect the amount of water in watersheds

a. Vegetation Coverb. Slope of the Areac. Kind of Soild. Amount of rainfalle. Temperature

Main Functions of a Watershed

1. The production of a continuous water supply that would maintain the life forms within it and in the area fed by its stream.

2. Moderate temperature.
