As you work through this 12 - 20 month programme, you will learn the skills and knowledge you need to become a treatment plant operator. This programme is delivered through a combination of online, on-job and off-job learning. You can choose to specialise in either drinking-water treatment or wastewater treatment to suit your plant specialisation.

LEARN HOW TO • Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a treatment plant • Operate equipment • Control and monitor treatment plant processes • Collect, analyse and interpret water/wastewater samples • Protect public health and the environment • Comply with the New Zealand Drinking Water Standards/Resource Consents
You will also gain the skills in one of the four specialised strands: Drinking-Water Treatment, Drinking-Water Multistage Processes, Wastewater Treatment or Wastewater Multistage Processes. ENTRY REQUIREMENTSThere are no entry requirements for this programme, but you must be currently working in the water or wastewater treatment industry. HOW IT WORKSDepending on your chosen strand, it takes around 12 - 20 months to complete this programme. Achievement of this qualification occurs through a combination of online learning and assessment, off-job block courses, treatment plant (SCADA) simulator and workplace assessment.
WHERE THIS CAN TAKE YOUThis qualification can lead to New Zealand Diploma in Water Treatment (Level 5) with strands in Drinking-Water strand and Wastewater strand.
