Dear Parishioners,

Soon it will be the month of May—dedicated to our Blessed Mother Mary. It is a great time of the year for so many reasons, especially for our new parish as we celebrate our new patronal feast day in honor of Mary as Mother of the Church. (Details elsewhere in the bulletin.)

During May, at both our churches we will have statues of Our Blessed Mother Mary placed prominently within the sanctuary with a basket nearby for our own personal prayer intentions to be offered—all leading into the special Holy Hour and Communal Rosary on May 21st with Archbishop Blair leading our entire parish family.

Pope Francis has a tremendous devotion to Mary, and by his example, we too can grow ever closer to her. Like any good mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary watches over, protects, and instructs her children. This is done with great love and faith. Pope Francis has entrusted his pontificate to her heavenly maternal care, and we will do the same for our parish on our upcoming feast day.

All the way—to God’s embrace.

Sincerely,

Father Lavorgna

OnLIne Giving

How does My E offering Help?

Online giving is the future. In the lifetime of our young people, we

will see electronic payments overshadow traditional methods of paper payments. In order to position our-selves to continue doing the work of God in the future and to make it as convenient as possible to be a cheerful giver to God’s work, we have decided to offer online giving to you. In addition to easier access to giving and more engagement with young stewards, online offering has many benefits for the church. It allows us to more easily track contributions for budgeting. It saves us from manually tracking those contributions every week. It saves from large fees on check processing and allows us to more accurately forecast expenditures and needs. HOW DO I SIGN UP? Signing Up is as simple as going to our church web-site (shortly - not just yet ) and clicking on the link that we will have set up. The instruction are simple and you can start giving on line!!! We are just a week or so away..stay tuned.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is always welcoming new members. We are adjusting our meeting times as follows:

2nd and 4th Monday AFTERNOON: 2:00-4:00PM 1st and 3rd TUESDAY EVENINGS: 7:00-9:00PM Meetings are held in St. Leo’s Guild Hall, handicap

accessible.

We would also like to thank those who have made and continue to support our ministry with donations of yarn.

APRIL 29, 2018 WATERBURY

Mary, Mother of the Church

Collection for Sunday, April 22, 2018 was $6113.00 for the regular collection and $102.00 for the

monthly collection.

We thank your for your continued generosity and support of our parish!

God, show me one way in this Mass I can become a better version of

myself this week!

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

How do I think God will prune my branch of the vine? What part of me is withered and should be

burned? What part of me is bearing the most fruit? How can I make the vine stronger and healthier?

The next Bereavement meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 9th at 4:00PM at St. Leo the Great Church. All are welcome.

Thank you to the parish families who have made a gift or pledge commitment to the 2018 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. If you have not yet had the opportunity, please consider prayerfully supporting the many “Good Works” of the Archdiocese. Every gift will be gratefully received and sincerely appreciated.

If you live in me and my words stay part of you, you may ask what you will and it will be done for you. Pray for an increase in vocations to

priesthood and religious life. To discern a vocation to priesthood or religious life, call Fr. Michael Casey, Director of Vocations, Archdiocesan Pastoral Center, Tel. 860-761-7457, e-mail [email protected] or visit the web at www.hartfordpriest.com.

Boy Scout Troop 302 sponsored by WARC is having their annual Ziti Dinner on May 19, 2018 from 3:00-7:00pm at WARC. Tickets are $10.00 per person, and will be on sale after all the Masses on April 28th and 29th at both SS. Peter and Paul Campus and St. Leo the Great Campus. Any questions, please call Mark 203-574-2688.

A Family Perspecve

Like the vine grower in today’s gospel, parents must “prune and cleanse” the branches in their family if their children are going to be rooted. Discipline, limits and setting goals are a necessary part of parenting so our children will grow and “bear fruit.”
