Wolfeboro, settled in 1768, wasgranted by Governor John Went-worth and named for GeneralWolfe, a hero of the Battle of Que-bec. Colonial Governor John Went-worth, his nephew, establishedKingswood, an estate on LakeWentworth, making it the “OldestSummer Resort in America”. Withthe end of the Civil War and thebuilding of the Wolfeboro Railroadin 1872, tourism began to come tothis charming town. The historicDepot building still remains. The

track now serves as an 11mile walking and bike pathpast Crescent Lake andLake Wentworth, ending inthe town of Wakefield.
