RESULTSAPPROACHTHE WATER CHALLENGE

OBJECTIVES

Studies carried out by the European Commis-sion have identified that a significant part ofEurope suffers from water stress, that thecumulative impacts of economic developmentand climate change are likely to aggravate thesituation in many areas where water stressalready exists and that further significantparts of Europe are likely to be affected in thefuture.

The same studies identified a very significantpotential for water savings in Europe throughimproved water efficiency, in particular inagriculture, buildings and water distributionsystems. It is estimated that between 20-40% of Europe’s water is being wasted.

WATERNOMICS will provide personalized andactionable information on water consumptionand water availability to individual house-holds, companies and cities in an intuitive &effective manner at relevant time-scales fordecision making. Project objectives include:● Introduce demand response and ac-

countability principles in the water sector● Engage consumers in new interactive and

personalized ways that bring water effi-ciency to the forefront and leads to changesin water behaviours

● Empower corporate decision makers andmunicipal area managers with a waterinformation platform

@WATERNOMICS_EU

The project is still ongoing but the first resultshave become available. Results range fromnew sensor technology, the water informationplatform with novel applications to the meth-odology and new business models and valuepropositions. In the final stage, results will bevalidated technologically as well as economi-cally in the four pilots or with relevant busi-ness partners.
