Our preschool program is intended to help stimulate your childs social, emotional, and creative development. Our program emphasizes socialization and learning through play. Classroom activities encourage problem solving, creativity, self-expression, as well as academics. This enables children to explore in a room fi lled with warmth, affection, and respect for others. It is the preschool environment where children learn to respect the authority of adults other than their parents. Friendship, sharing, and cooperation are modeled and practiced on a daily basis. The children participate in all types of learning including art, music, creative play, cooking, literature, and science. Through carpet time, direct instruction, hands-on learning and free-time activities, the children are exposed to a curriculum that enhances their creativity and also provides a positive atmosphere for learning. Our 2-year old program is designed to give your child an early introduction to our traditional preschool program. Dance with Me (2.5-3 years with parent)Our youngest ballet class introduces students and a parent to the magical world of ballet. We use a variety of props to stimulate the students imagination and spark their creativity when dancing. The main goals at this level are learning to listen to the teacher, following directions, and cooperating and sharing with other dancers. This class will not participate in the recital.

Creative Dance (3-4 years)This class introduces students to ballet technique, while encouraging their creativity and imagination. We emphasize exploring the students natural passion for melody, rhythm and movement, as well as listening to the music. Free dance time is important to the students at this level, as it allows them to express themselves and show their love of movement. Students work on following directions, cooperating with others, developing spatial orientation, and using basic counting skills.

Pre Ballet I (4-5 years) and II (5-6 years)Students begin the transition from fairy-tale excitement to the self-awareness and pride of dancing ballet. Still emphasizing the use of imagery and imagination, the students develop basic dance coordination and body alignment. Students learn ballet terminology, how to identify correct and incorrect movements, and begin learning how to self-correct themselves while dancing.

Pre Ballet and Tap (4-6 years)This is a combination class including ballet and tap technique. Basic rhythm and tap choreography, as well as the foundations of ballet, will be taught. Dancers participating in the recital will perform either a ballet or a tap piece.

Pre Jazz (5-6 years)This class is for fi rst time jazz students who are excited to move to the music and show off their natural air for dance. The main goals include learning class format, listening to their teacher, and cooperating with other students. The main focus at this fi rst level is listening to the music, fi nding the rhythm, building basic jazz technique and vocabulary, and using power and energy in their movements.

Pre Modern (5-6 years)Modern dance explores movement, space, rhythm, and the dancers own creativity with emphasis on momentum, shapes, and patterns. It is inspired by nature, music, art, and human emotions. This class will contain a very basic technique study and improvisation.

Student Division (First grade and above contact Meghan Reimers for placement inquiries)This division is a graded-training program. Age is used as a guideline for class placement; however a students individual ability becomes more important. Students will be evaluated at the end of each year to determine appropriate class placement for the following year. It is typical for a student to remain at the same level for 2 years. Promotion to the next level does not occur until the student has mastered the current level syllabus. This is important for the students safety, as well as their confi dence.

Ballet I, II, III, IVBallet is the foundation of all dance styles. As students grow, they naturally begin to dance as a form of expression and imagination. We capture this enthusiasm and incorporate it into our ballet program for young students. As our students mature and their bodies develop strength, we transition to a more serious study of ballet technique that will prepare them to be both confi dent and technically profi cient dancers and artists.

Jazz I, II, III, IVStudents who show a natural air for drama and performance love Jazz class. Jazz curriculum is a perfect complement to our ballet program. We follow the typical jazz class format of building strength, balance, and extension through isolations, rhythmic exercises, oor stretches, across the oor patterns, and dance routines. Movements continue to develop as the students progress and mature.

    MENAGERIE DANCE

In order for our instructors to effectively correct the students body alignment, the proper dance attire should be worn. It is hard to see if the knees are bent or if the stomach muscles are being used when the dancers have on baggy clothes. During the winter session it is permissible to wear sweatshirts or warm up pants during warm ups only, but must be removed for the remainder of the class. Please refer to the dress code that we have established for our classes.Ballet/Pointe: Any color leotard and tights with pink leather ballet shoes (no slippers). Ballet skirts and leg warmers are permitted. Hair must be off the face.Jazz/Modern/Lyrical: Black jazz pants with any color leotard, tank top, camisole, or fi tted t-shirt. Jazz dancers should have black jazz shoes, lyrical and modern dancers will be barefoot. Hair must be off the face.Hip Hop: Black jazz pants with any color leotard, tank top, camisole, or fi tted t-shirt. Dancers should have black jazz shoes or dance sneakers (No street shoes). Hair must be off the face.Boy Dancers: Sweat pants, shorts, athletic pants, or jazz pants, with any color fi tted t-shirt and black jazz or ballet shoes according to the appropriated dance style.Tap: Solid colored leotard or tank top with black jazz pants, shorts or capris. Hair should be secured off the face and neck. Tap shoes required.

Tap I, II, IIIClasses teach rhythm, coordination, basic tap terminology, and choreography. As the dancer progresses they will refi ne tap skills, while moving beyond the fundamentals. Students will put the fundamentals to work by learning new steps, rhythms, patterns, and combinations. Dancers will continue to develop speed, clarity, dynamics, and the ability to execute complex rhythmic combinations.

Hip Hop I, II, III, IVA fusion of high-energy dance styles equate to the dance style that is hip-hop, which is featured in many music videos. Groove to the beats of the latest songs as you warm-up and learn an exciting, lively dance routine. Movements will continue to increase in diffi culty from level to level.

Modern I, II, III, IVTurning against the structured techniques and shoes of ballet, modern dance favors a free-style of dancing, using the concepts of contract/release, drop/ ow, and gravity. This class consists of oor work, center work, a barre, and combinations that use the founding principles of modern dance and evolve them to the present.

Lyrical I, II, IIILyrical dance is a style that blends ballet and jazz dance. A lyrical dancer uses movement to express strong emotions such as love, joy, and anger. Music may consist of many genres including pop, rock, and hip-hop.

Pre-Pointe (by approval only)Pre-Pointe is designed to prepare approved dancers in Ballet III and IV for the study of pointe work. This class emphasizes strengthening exercises for the legs and feet. Dancers learn about pointe shoes, how to properly affi x and tie pointe shoe ribbons, and proper foot care.Pre-Pointe may also be recommended for a dancer who is physically unable to undertake the rigors of pointe work, but can benefi t from the exercises offered and would enjoy learning about the process of dancing on pointe. Dancers remain in pre-pointe until they are formally advanced by the instructor to study on pointe.Requirements: Minimum of 3 years consecutive ballet training. Minimum of one additional Ballet class per week and instructor approval.

Adult BalletWhether you are an adult new to dance, returning to dance, or looking to maintain your chosen craft join us for our adult classes.

Extreme Moves 14+ yearsExpands the physical capabilities of a person using a combination of physics and architecture to strengthen ones body and mind. Provides an increase in physical strength, allowing one to move more effi ciently through space. Li Chiao-Ping developed the Extreme MovesTM Training Method for dancers/athletes to deconstruct traditional dance vocabulary and challenge notions of what the body is capable of performing. This work demystifi es some of the strength or power movements often thought of as masculine. The Extreme MovesTM Training Method assists students to safely and successfully decipher and perform athletically-demanding moves. The Extreme MovesTM Training Method is an extended physical technique, expanding on the possibilities of the body as an expressive instrument.
