Take I-39 exit 185 – Business 51 North to county road XX/ Imperial Avenue. Turn right and then go straight ahead. The community Room is located at the main entrance of the mall. BBQ will be provided. Please bring a dish-to-pass. Presidents Letter I couldn’t make the December meeting due to work, so it was very enjoyable that I could make the January meeting. As always, the air was filled with the talk of prospecting. A big Thank You goes out to Dave Towel on his talk about prospecting in our own back yard and the equipment that he brought along to show. I love his work on prospecting for diamonds in Wisconsin and his explaining what we need to have for equipment to find diamonds. Usually it is just modifying the equipment we are already using to find gold and applying a film of grease on this equipment to catch the diamonds. The grease is then scrapped off and heated in a pot to let the diamonds fall to the bottom of the pot. The grease is then reused. The club is constantly picking up new members as folks continue to see gold prospecting on TV. You have the Outdoor Channel with Gold Fever and the Alaskan, the Discovery Channel with Gold Rush, Jungle Gold, and Bering Sea gold, and the History Channel with Bamazon. It is no wonder that there are so many folks who are interested or just plain curious about gold prospecting. Our February 2 nd meeting will be on Gold Fever Prospecting near Chicken Alaska by Dean Race. Prospecting for Dean is a large part of his life and it is always a pleasure to have Dean for one of our programs during the year. Then in March there will be no meeting as the club officers will be at Klondike Days in Eagle River demonstrating gold panning and working the club booth. We will have a meeting for April 6 th . I hope all you folks have a Happy New Year and I look forward to hearing your stories as you get out this year with your gold pan and/or metal detector in search of gold and/or treasure. Enjoy the Great Outdoors….
