Engineered to Perform

Successful debug requires a combination of powerful problem recognition, isolation, and correlation tools combinedwith the ability to capture and display nearly any signal presentin your design. Fast, responsive long memory is essential toallow quick determination and insight into cause and effectsignal relationships over short or long periods of time. The ability to capture many millions of measurements in a shortperiod of time, intuitively analyze for signal anomalies, andshorten time to find anomalies greatly aids in understandingunderlying problems.

Recognize Rare Events with Unique Tools

Finding rare events is a vital first step for proper design anddebug. TriggerScan detects and captures more anomalies per second than simple fast viewing tools by using trigger hardware to detect undesired behaviors, then capture and display them for additional analysis and action. Responsivelong acquisition memory provides flexibility to capture and analyze sufficient times before and after the desired event. X-Stream II fast throughput streaming architecture provides fast answers when problems become complex. Unique tools, such as histicons, allow intuitive display and understanding of measurements and statistics at rates approaching 750,000measurements/s. WaveScan™ can be used to apply softwarescan or search conditions for those behaviors in which it is not possible to trigger in hardware, such as excessive jitter.

Additional tools, such as LeCroy’s WaveStream™ fast viewing mode, provide traditional analog-like display of signal behaviors.

More Triggers Isolate More Problems More Effectively

A powerful combination of high bandwidth Edge and 10 different SMART triggers allow you to isolate the problemquickly and begin to focus on the cause. Most SMART triggers allow triggering on pulse widths or features as small as 200 ps.

High-speed serial trigger enables triggering on up to 3.125 Gb/sserial patterns of up to 80-bits in length. Built-in hardwareclock recovery is also included. (Optional)

A full range of seven different serial triggers (I2C, SPI, UART,RS-232, CAN, LIN, FlexRay) are available, providing capabilityto isolate events related to serial peripheral bus traffic. Mostserial triggers contain powerful conditional DATA triggering to allow inclusion or exclusion of entire ranges of data values, which will expedite understanding of how a range of serial bus traffic DATA values interact with other signals. (Optional)

X-Stream II fast throughput streaming architecture makes it possible toanalyze millions of measurements quickly while also gathering statisticaldata and representing statistical distribution with Histicons.

Superior Feature Finding and Rare Event Capture

A multitude of available triggers provides a high degreeof confidence in problem isolation.

Going Beyond Fast Viewing

Digital storage oscilloscopes with simple “continuous” display updatesexpend considerable overhead and processing time showing the “normal”events that are not of interest. Theresult—they miss more than 99% of signals under even the best circum-stances—and capture many signalswhich are of little interest. For instance,an oscilloscope with a 400,000 wave-forms/second capture rate looking foranomalies in a 200 MHz waveformwould miss 99.8% of the signal periods. For an event with an occurrence of 1 in 10 billion events (50 seconds of circuit operation), such an oscilloscopecould spend nearly 7 hours or morebefore it found a single elusive event.Clearly, a better solution is needed forcapturing rare events.

Detect and Capture More

Anomalies/Second

TriggerScan uses high-speed hardwaretriggering capability with persistence displays to capture only the signals ofinterest and provide answers in minutesinstead of hours. In addition, there islittle degradation of detect and capture capability at longer capture times orhigher sampling rates.

To use TriggerScan, simply recall a user-defined or pre-defined set of Edge, SMART or serial trigger setups(up to 100). TriggerScan rapidlysequences through each individual trigger with a user-defined dwell time, and captures and displays any anom-alous signals that meets the trigger condition(s). Since hardware triggering is used to capture only the elusiveevents, TriggerScan is more effective atfinding anomalies quickly compared tosimple display technologies. Furthermore,TriggerScan is effective even at longeracquisitions, so establishing cause andeffect relationships between events canhappen faster.

Extensive Trigger Selection Adds

Unique Power

LeCroy’s extensive range of high-speedEdge, SMART, and serial triggers, most with Exclusion Technology, make TriggerScan uniquely powerful.Furthermore, the ability to trigger on features as small as 200 ps in widthgreatly increases the capability of findingthe rarest events.

Capability Beyond Viewing

Unlike simple “fast display” technologies,TriggerScan results are actual waveformdata, not pixelated images. Therefore, results can be saved, exported, or fullyprocessed using measure, math, orother tools. Furthermore, triggeredanomalies (and other related waveforms)can be acquired and stored in advancedacquisition modes, such as sequencemode, for later review and use inadvanced debugging.

TriggerScan – Accumulate More Anomalies/Second

TriggerScan uses high-speed hardwaretriggering to provide answers inminutes instead of hours.

Once a rare event or undesired behavioris found, its relationship to other eventsmust be established. WavePro 700Zimakes this easy.

Freedom From Limitations

WavePro 700Zi excels whereas special purpose oscilloscopes, (i.e. high band-width oscilloscopes for specific tasks)struggle. All WavePro 700Zis, from 1.5to 6 GHz, contain both 50 Ω and 1 MΩ

input capability, and 4 to 6 GHz units contain both ProBus and ProLink inputtypes. The result—no more frustrationand hassle of trying to find a 1 MΩ inputadapter when you simply want to hookup a passive probe for a quick measure-ment of a low-speed signal. Plus, anyexisting investment in LeCroy probes, such as current probes, single-ended ordifferential active probes, high voltageprobes, etc. is fully leveraged. Perfect.

Fully Integrated Mixed Signal

Oscilloscope (4+36) Option

Besides the four analog inputs, WavePro700Zi provides options for Mixed SignalOscilloscope (MSO) operation using the MS-250 and MS-500 mixed signaloptions. These convenient add-ons connect to the LeCroy LBUS andUSB2.0 ports and quickly and simplyprovide capability to acquire up to 36 digital lines time-correlated with analogwaveforms. No time is wasted in tryingto learn how to connect, synchronize oroperate a complicated logic analyzersince the MS-250 and MS-500 arealready completely integrated into thescope. In addition to acquiring digital lines, they are also helpful for monitoringlow-speed signals, such as serial dataclock, data, and chip select signals, thus preserving the analog channels for higher speed requirements. Both MSOoptions add capability to incorporateboth analog and digital signals into a4+36 pattern trigger for useful debug-ging in mixed signal designs.

Serial Decoders Give a Whole

New Meaning to Insight

Advanced software algorithms decon-struct serial data waveforms into binary, hex, or ASCII protocol information, then overlay the decoded data on thewaveform.

Various sections of the protocol arecolor-coded to make it easy to under-stand. The decode operation is fast—even with long acquisitions.

Protocol Analysis Table

Turn your oscilloscope into a protocolanalyzer with the Table display of protocol information. Customize thetable, or export Table data to an Excelfile. Touch a message in the table andautomatically zoom for detail. Search for specific address or data values in the acquisition.

Mixed Signal Options expand debugging capability.

Understand Relationships Better. Debug Faster.

Serial decoders provide intuitive insight into serial datastreams.

Architected for Speed and Responsiveness

Today’s digital storage oscilloscope users can purchaseacquisition memory that was unthinkable just 5 yearsago, but have all memory needs been met?

Unfortunately, many oscilloscopes contain sluggishacquisition memory that is frustrating to use, especiallywhen digital signal processing or simple math operatorsare enabled. Perhaps this is why many users want toexport their acquisitions to a separate computer forpost-processing. Clearly, there has to be a better way.

LeCroy – The Acquisition Memory Leader

Fortunately, LeCroy has found a way to make longacquisition memory a pleasure to use. WavePro 700ZiSeries with proprietary X-Stream II fast throughputstreaming architecture enables processing performancegains of 10–20X over what is available today, whichsupports deep insight into waveforms. Front panel controls are instantaneously responsive, even with the longest acquisition lengths. Furthermore, for those customers who wish to post-process data off-line, anoptional high-speed 500 Mpts/second interface card isavailable to speed this task. LeCroy is clearly the leaderwhen it comes to finding ways to make long acquisitionmemory work for the user.

X-Stream II: Optimized for Analysis

WavePro 700Zi’s design has been optimized to enable the fastest throughput on record lengths that are common with today’s complex signals. X-Stream II fast throughput streaming architecture uses variablewaveform segment lengths to improve CPU cachememory efficiency and provide faster processing oflong records. Traditional digital oscilloscopes thatprocess full-size waveforms in one length pay a performance penalty due to overly simplistic architec-tures that are inattentive to the CPU architecture. The X-Stream II streaming architecture is augmented by an Intel® Core™ 2 Quad processor, high-speed databuses, a 64-bit OS, and up to 8 GB of RAM. No designtradeoffs were made in creating the best architecture. You’ll notice the difference as soon as you turn it on.

WavePro 700Zi excels at performing complex calculations on long wave-forms, enabling users to gain waveform insight with confidence. Here, a 50 Mpts PCIe Gen1 waveform acquisition is acquired and fully analyzed in a matter of seconds—nearly 100X faster than competitive oscilloscopes.

X-Stream II fast throughput streaming architecture makes difficult analysisand deep insight possible. Here, an FFT is applied to a 50 Mpts waveform to determine root cause failure. The high frequency resolution this providesenables deep insight into signal pathologies.

LeCroy’s faster processing is clearly evident when bit sliced eye diagrams arecreated from long acquisition records.

6

Fast and Efficient

Instantaneous Responsiveness

LeCroy has delivered the most responsive long memoryoscilloscope you will likely ever use. The longest recordlengths and most complex waveshape analysis are easilyhandled, whether you use the front panel or prefer to makeadjustments with a mouse. You will notice the difference inresponsiveness the first time you use the oscilloscope.

With competitive oscilloscopes, the simple act of turning aknob to change the offset or make an adjustment to triggerdelay during a long memory acquisition can require seconds or minutes waiting for the oscilloscope to respond. If simplemath, such as subtracting two channels (a common opera-tion), or advanced waveshape analysis is performed, somecompetitive oscilloscopes become painfully slow to respond.LeCroy remains fast and responsive even when acquiring orprocessing long acquisition memory.

Off-line Data Transfer Speeds 25–100X Faster

Oftentimes, an engineer will want to quickly transfer datafrom an oscilloscope to another PC, either to “stream” asmuch data as possible off-line, or to move the acquisition data to another computer for custom processing.

Typically, GPIB has provided transfer rates of ~1 Mpt/s.100BaseT Ethernet (LAN) has enabled transfer rates up to 10 Mpts/s, and 1000BaseT Gigabit Ethernet has enabled 22 Mpts/s. For 100 Mpts or longer records, a different solutionis needed to truly meet the need for high-speed data transfer.

LeCroy’s LSIB solution enables direct connection to the PCI Express® X4 high-speed data bus in the oscilloscope toenable data transfer rates up to 500 Mpts/s. All that is requiredis installation of an optional LeCroy LSIB card in the scope andthe corresponding host board or card (for desktop or laptopPC) in the remote computer. Data transfer is easily enabledthrough a supplied application program interface (API).

LeCroy’s LSIB high-speed data transfer option is the fastest way to transfer data from the oscilloscope to a PC.

More Ways to Understand

Track Views Provide Graphical Display of Parameter

Values vs. Time

Track in WavePro 700Zi (optional) uses every instance of a measurement in an acquisition to create a plot of measure-ment values on the Y-axis and time on the X-axis. The result is a graphical plot of a measurement change time-correlated to the original channel acquisition—perfect for intuitive understanding of behaviors in FM or PWM circuits and jittermeasurements, including modulation or spikes.

Histograms Graphically Present Statistical Data

WavePro 700Zi captures ~750,000 measurements/second— > 5X faster than other oscilloscopes in its class. With thismuch data, it is essential to provide more than just a list ofmean, min, max, sdev, etc. values.

Histograms provide an intuitive way to view the distribution ofstatistical data and gain real insight into underlying problems.

User-Defined Customization (XDEV)

More Choices

• Math Function and MeasurementParameter support

• MATLAB (incl. Simulink), Excel, C++, JScript (JAVA), and VBScripts

• Input source can be oscilloscope channels, memory traces, math functions, and measurement parameters.

• Supports up to 20 Mpts record lengths

• Allows real-time editing of code within the scope application.

• Built-in debugger provides immediatefeedback of code changes.

Deeper Integration

LeCroy has taken a novel, fully-integratedapproach to customization in the scope.

For example, a user might want to perform an inverse FFT. This capability is not available in oscilloscopes, but is present in MATLAB as a pre-definedfunction. A MATLAB script can be written and modified within an oscillo-scope dialog box, and the scope application will execute the entirescript and call the referenced function(s).The result is displayed on the scopegraticule or in the parameter table, andcan be used just like any waveform.

Note that customized routines can also provide control over scope operation and settings while a result is being calculated.

Advanced Capability

Sometimes capability more advancedthan a single customized math functionor measurement parameter is desired. Therefore, LeCroy offers user-definedgraphical user interfaces (GUIs).

The user can create completely new, elaborate functionality that is not inherent in the oscilloscope, and thatgoes beyond simple re-arrangement of existing controls.

Inverse FFT is calculated by MATLAB and returned as a waveform (F3) within the oscilloscope’s graticule.

A CustomDSO plug-in adds NRZ serial data decoding—capability not inherent to the oscilloscope

Basic Triggers

Edge Triggers when signal meets slope (positive, negative, or either) and level condition.TV-Composite Video Triggers NTSC or PAL with selectable line and field; HDTV (720p, 1080i, 1080p) with selectable frame rate (50 or 60 Hz)

and Line; or CUSTOM with selectable Fields (1–8), Lines (up to 2000), Frame Rates (25, 30, 50, or 60 Hz), Interlacing(1:1, 2:1, 4:1, 8:1), or Synch Pulse Slope (Positive or Negative).

SMART Triggers

State or Edge Qualified Triggers on any input source only if a defined state or edge occurred on another input source. Delay between sources is selectable by time or events.

Dropout Triggers if signal drops out for longer than selected time between 1 ns and 20 s.Pattern Logic combination (AND, NAND, OR, NOR) of 5 inputs (4 channels and external trigger input).

Each source can be high, low, or don’t care. The High and Low level can be selected independently. Triggers at start or end of the pattern.

SMART Triggers with Exclusion Technology

Glitch Triggers on positive or negative glitches with widths selectable as low as 200 ps (depending on oscilloscope bandwidth) to 20 s, or on intermittent faults.

Width (Signal or Pattern) Triggers on positive or negative widths with widths selectable as low as 200 ps (depending on oscilloscope bandwidth) to 20 s, or on intermittent faults.

Interval (Signal or Pattern) Triggers on intervals selectable between 1 ns and 20 s.Timeout (State/Edge Qualified) Triggers on any source if a given state (or transition edge) has occurred on another source.

Delay between sources is 1 ns to 20 s, or 1 to 99,999,999 events.Runt Trigger on positive or negative runts defined by two voltage limits and two time limits.

Select between 1 ns and 20 ns.Slew Rate Trigger on edge rates. Select limits for dV, dt, and slope. Select edge limits between 1 ns and 20 ns.Exclusion Triggering Trigger on intermittent faults by specifying the expected behavior and triggering when that condition is not met.
