2.The 23 white stars in the canton of the flag represent the 23 islands of X. The three black stars in the upper right represent the islands that were disfigured in March 1954 due to nuclear testing. The two black stars in the lower right corner represent where the natives live now, Kili Island, 425 miles to the south of X, and Ejit Island. These two stars are symbolically far away from X's stars on the flag as the islands are in real life (both in distance and quality of life). The Marshallese language words on the bottom of the flag, "MEN OTEMJEJ REJ ILO BEIN ANIJ“, reportedly represent the words spoken in 1946 by the Xleader, Juda, to U.S. Commodore Ben Wyatt when the American went to X to ask the islanders to give up their islands for the 'good of all mankind' . They translate as "Everything is in the hands of God.“ The similarity to the American flag design and the striking isolation of the 3-star group and the 2-star group represent the belief of the islanders that the Government of the United States still has obligations to their people, including reparations and resettlement of those who were exiled. The exact origin of the phrase XYZ is unknown.

A very popular theory is that Tata Oil Mills Ltd. Co (TOMCO) came up with a detergent new brand called Y. Hence, their marketing team thought of an ‘amazing idea’. They decided that trucks would be a superb way to spread awareness about this detergent brand called Y. Since the brand had a symbol of the Lotus, the Lotus was painted above Y.

The other theory dates back to World War II. Petrol was on short supply and trucks resorted to using kerosene. Kerosene is not the ideal fuel you want to pour in your tank. It is unstable and there are possibilities of a truck exploding into a ball of fire. Hence, truck drivers wrote ‘XZ, On Kerosene’ on their trucks. Gradually, it turned to ‘XYZ.

Give me the phrase.

• “It is like staring into the kind of black hole found in outer space.“

• “For example, it reduces stray-light, improving the ability of sensitive telescopes to see the faintest stars... Its ultra-low reflectance improves the sensitivity of terrestrial, space and air-borne instrumentation.”
