The important key to scoring well in golf is being able to predict whereyour ball will land when you hit it. Obviously, the more repeatable yourswing is, the easier this act of prediction becomes.

But if you jumble your mind with too many swing thoughts, you'llstruggle to develop any kind of consistency. What you only need to do isfocus on a handful of basics; then the rest of your swing will happenautomatically.

Shorten Your Backswing

Erratic shots, a golf swing that is not reliable or powerful, and doesn'thold up under pressure or from round to round. Slow down and limitthe length of your backswing for more consistency.

The purpose of the backswing is to coil the body and set the club inposition for a powerful downswing. You don't hit the ball with yourbackswing, you hit the ball on the downswing. A backswing that is tooquick, or too long, can easily get the club out of position, and can preventyou from storing the energy needed for a powerful, consistentdownswing.

Make a Bigger Hip Turn

The Hips are described as one of the most important parts of the body.Their turning motion provides the rotation which gives the swing it'spower. Turn the hips well in the Backswing to gain easy distance.

Unfortunately, the hips do not get used enough in the swing by mostgolfers. Usually, it is the hands and arms that drive the swing. In golferswho are lacking in strength, flexibility or suffer from injuries in the upperbody, the hips are even more important as power from the other areasbecomes even more limited. A big hip turn means that the shoulders cancoil backwards more and allows the hips to turn before any other part ofthe body in the downswing, allowing the whole body to attack the golfball

Maintain Your Spine Angle

Maintaining the angle of your spine throughout your golf swing is acritical component of being able to consistently hit the ball straight.When your spine angle remains fixed throughout the swing, the club faceis more likely to be level at impact and thus give you a more solid shot.Regularly practicing swing drills will help your back muscles memorizethe feeling of the exact spine angle you need for your club length.

By keeping your spine straight on the same angle, your ability to returnthe club face to square contact with the golf ball ensures a moreaccurate shot. If your spine position moves, it will be harder to return theclub face to a consistent position at impact with the ball.

Release With Your Chest

Practice turning your chest though the ball and finishing by facing thetarget. This action completes the rotation of the body through impactand maximizes club head speed down the hitting line. As an exercise,focus on turning your chest faster which should feel like your arms andclub are being dragged through the ball. It should feel strange as yourchest starts to turn first when your arms drop in the downswing.

Of course a straight arm, flat wrist and lagging release are also keycomponents for your successful swing.
