CameraLots of close ups and extreme close ups are used to allow the audience to build a bond with the main character, Sam, as he is ill and we don’t know if he will survive.

There are also many interior mid/long shots which makes the audience worry as 12 year old boys are usually outside making, the audience wonder if he is too sick

The genre of the film is family/drama and this is clear as there are many clips of the family in the trailer which would attract a diverse audience

Mise-en-scene

Other settings we see:A church The beach A typical urban pub

The variety of places make the film more interesting and the audience will wan to know why Sam is going the those places. Especially the church as it is associated with death

We can see Sam is wearing stereotypical clothing to create verisimilitude. He also is shown as ill but still has hair to prove not everyone with cancer has no hair.

Editing The trailer is a montage of clips that are most likely in the film. The cuts are mostly straight as this is the quickest way to get the most into the short time.

The pace of the trailer is mostly slow but gets slightly faster at the end which follows the conventions of a trailer.

The prevalence is on Sam for the majority of the trailer to show the audience he is important.

Sound bridge of the teacher talking about nobody living forever suggesting somebody had died as it is over the clip of Sam at the church with a coffin in the frame.

Recurring motifs

• A book is regularly shown to possibly represent the youth of the boy as it could be a diary which is stereotypical of a child.

• It could also show that this book has a lot of meaning and Sam says he is writing a book so the audience wonder if he finishes it.

SFXThere are a few clips of animations which bring his wildest dreams to life for example he wants to become a scientist and as he’s talking about how he could live forever we see into his imagination this expresses his youth.

We also see an animation of the Eifel tower the fact they are animations make the audience think they wont happen in the film making them believe it will have a bad ending where Sam’s condition kills him
