WAYS TO MAKE LISTENING AND LEARNING EASY

There are many ways to learn information.

Here are the two most common methodsthat students use to

listen and learn………….

1. Hear it!---when the teacher tells the class information.

2. Read it!---when students read the information in the text book.

Did you know there are at least 5 more strategies you can use to

make learning easier?

These include:3. Write it!• Write down important

details during class discussion, especially if the teacher says something twice or louder.

• Write your own study guide. Include words in bold type, definitions, lists and main ideas. Highlight and star key words.

4. Say it out loud!

• Some people learn best when they say information out loud, especially if they rehearse it in a rhythmic way.

• Teach information to someone else.

5. Associate it with something familiar.

• Compare new information to ideas you already know.

• Use acronyms (the first letters in a list of words made into a word you can remember.

• “Chunk” the information into groups, songs, raps, etc.

6. Draw it!

• It’s amazing how even stick figure drawings can help your ability to remember information.

• People who learn best visually find this method of learning especially helpful.

7. Preview it!

• Whenever possible, skim or read the chapter BEFORE the teacher presents it in class. You will be amazed at how much better you understand it when you hear it.

• Glancing over the first and last sentences in paragraphs, the bold print, and picture captions is especially helpful.
