We are learning about life long ago when Queen

Victoria was in charge of England.

Schools in Victorian times were very different buildings. How are they

different from our school? Can you see the bell tower?

Look at the shape of the windows and doors.

Look at this Victorian school room. It doesn’t look very attractive does it?

Where are the toys?

Victorian teachers were very strict.

The school room was very different. The children sat in

rows.

The teacher had a cane!!!! OUCH!!!!

These boys are going to be caned!!

There were no school meals so ALL the children brought their

lunch from home.

The teacher used a BLACKBOARD and chalk...no electronic whiteboard! Why

not?

The children used little blackboards or SLATES with

chalk.

This boy is wearing a dunce’s cap it means that he is not

very clever!!

Victorian people

Some people were very poor and did not wash or

shower very much.

They sometimes worked in horrible and dangerous

factories.

Some people were rich and wore very beautiful clothes.

Victorian toys

Rich children would often have a wooden rocking horse.

Poorer children played with a wooden cup and ball.

There were no computers or DSs to play with.
