Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of St Antony's,

As we enter into July and lockdown eases, we can reflect on the past few months and be very proud of how we have kept strong, kept patient and remained together as a community. We are grateful to the parents who have faced the challenges of turning their homes into classrooms and proud of the children who have taken on more responsibility for their own learning. Only two weeks to go, so keep going!

We have had another wonderful week both in school and at home. We hope you have all been enjoying the Google Meet ses-sions, we know your teachers have. They have loved seeing you and hearing about how you are getting on. Year 6 have been learning about politics and have all written political statements for their Make a Change project. I wonder if we have any future prime ministers in our midst!

We would like to say welcome to our two new pupils who have joined Year 4 this week, albeit virtually via google classroom. We look forward to meeting you in September!

Finally, thank you to all those who entered the Squirrel Competition. It was so hard to make a decision as all the entries were fabulous. Who knew a squirrel could be drawn in so many ways! However, a decision has been made and the winner is….

Leah Brooks from 4H! Congratulations Leah!

Keep safe and God bless. Miss Pampellonne and Mrs Poulter.

Jesus exclaimed, “I bless

you, Father, Lord of heav-

Well done Cathal Last week Cathal was fundraising for The Chigwell Riding

Trust (which is part of the Riding for the Disabled Association)

by selling some of his toys on his driveway. He raised over

£100 and, following donations from very generous friends,

neighbours and family, has now raised £1275 in total.

The Chigwell Riding Trust has more than 160 special needs

children and adults riding each week and has had to close its

doors in light of recent events, meaning their income stream

and fundraising events have stopped. However, the over-

heads are still considerable, with the horses still requiring

feeding and care, so parents are trying to prevent the perma-

nent closure of this amazing facility.

Cathal has been attending for a few years, and has thrived in

physical strength, and also in self-confidence. This outlet has

been a godsend to special needs parents. Here they have a

social outlet and stimulation from the wonderful volunteers

and trainers. It truly is a treasure. So Cathal really wanted to

do his bit to give something back.

Year 5 This term we have been learning all about the Ancient Greeks. We learnt about how the created the original Olym-

pics, how life was different for those living in Athens and Sparta and we found out about all the different Gods and

Goddesses they had.

In English we read ‘Who let the God’s out?’ which was a funny modern take on Greek myth. We have also read a

number of famous Greek Myths and created art work, stories, games and plays based on them.

Here are just a few of the fabulous temples we built for a chose God or Goddess, mosaics we made and silhouette

paintings based on Icarus and Daedalus.

A Message from “ELVIS the reading dog”

Hello Everyone,

Have you had a good week? What have

you been reading? This week I read a

book called “ Something good” by Robert

Munsch. Tyya’s dad won’t buy anything good

at the store, no ice cream, no candy, no

cookies. It is a very funny book.
