Quick changeovers on large stack moulds; smaller tonnage machine use

Canadian tooling solutions provider StackTeck highlights an unconventional application for a

big stack mould,

fitted with its Quick Product Change (QPC) features. This mould runs in a Husky Injection

Molding 1,000-tonne machine,

in 2x4 format enabling moulding of 8 large flat panels per cycle of the machine,

thereby allowing production that should be done on a larger machine to be undertaken on a

smaller machine

StackTeck’s client selected the Quick Product Change approach with manufacturing flexibility in mind.

According to Angelo Morra, Business Development Manager at StackTeck: “This customer was looking for

a way to mould multiple part types using the same machine and they have achieved a change-over time of

less than 1 hour using StackTeck’s proven Quick Product Change technology. They are using high

performance injection moulding machines and with stack mould technology they have reduced the number

of machines needed for the program by half.”

A QPC mould is designed with two major components: frame and modules. The frame is designed to

remain in the machine with all water, air, and electrical hook-ups remaining in place. The modules consist of

core/cavity assemblies and plate systems. Every QPC mould can be converted from single face to a stack

mould configuration. The QPC approach has built in features for the alignment of modules to the frame, as

well as plate-to-plate connections for services, this dramatically reduces change-over time, says Stackteck.

Some of the advantages of the QPC technology are:

Ability to fulfill last-minute demand changes from customers

Only one hot runner and frame needed per machine

Reduce product change-over times / maximize production up-time

Growth of capital investment can be “cascaded” with “module-only” purchases as the market demand increases

Standard QPC module heights and part pitches facilitate the use of robotic standards

Identical modules can be moved between multiple frames including a single face frame and stack mould frames up to 4 levels.

want to channel their inner Ba....wait, what? This isn't a Bane mask, but rather a conceptual device that allows you to charge your

iPhone with the power of breath? Hmmm....tell me more:

The AIRE mask is a concept that hails from the mind of Joao Paulo Lammoglia, where it will rely on the power of your breath,

converting it to electricity thanks to tiny wind turbines. All you need to do is ensure the AIRE mask remains connected to an iOS-

powered device, breathe as usual, and you are good to go.

Well, this may come in handy if you really need to play Angry Birds in a post apocalyptic setting where there is no access to

electricity, or if you can't stop running long enough to charge your phone, but I have terribly bad breath at the moment so I'm not

sure that this device would like being parked on my face!

Sometimes you just need to sit down and do nothing—just breathe in deeply and then out again, letting the tumultuous

world wash by you. Other than helping you to relax and contemplate, it’s not the most productive time, but all that

could change with a device called AIRE, from Joao Paulo Lammoglia which lets you charge your iPhone using your own

breath.

By utilizing your own hot air to charge your phone, you’re not using up energy that’s coming from unrenewable sources,

so you can save money and the world. Inside the Vader-style mouth mask are small wind turbines that convert your

dispelled CO2 into electrical energy which is then transferred via a wire to the phone.

So whether you’re taking a nap, vegetating on the couch, running, or sitting at your desk typing, you can use the mask to

give precious juice to your over-used gadget

Even though the photo instructions

for boosting you Wi-Fi signal with a

can are fairly clear, let me add some

textual tips as well. You will need a

beer can or a soda can, both work

equally as well. And if you are

underage, a soda can may be easier to

find. The steps for this DIY project

are easy.

Wash out the can and remove the pull

tab.

Use a utility knife and cut off the

bottom of the can.

Cut through most of the top of the

can, but leave about 1-inch that you

don’t cut through.

Attach some adhesive putting to the

top of the can to hold it onto the

wireless router and place over the

antenna.

Enjoy your extended Wi-Fi created by

a simple DIY hack.
