  • 2015 Annual Report

2016 Annual ReportWe build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

  • Dear Habitat Friends and Families,

2016 was a great year, one where we took on new challenges, helped more families and engaged more volunteers in strengthening our community.

The year kicked off with the implementation of the 2016-2019 Strategic Plan that focuses on expanding our scope from housing to providing housing solutions. It identifies community development and home repair as tactics to create a larger impact throughout our entire service area.

Historically, building houses is what we have done; changing lives is why we have done it. Providing housing solutions allows us to change more lives in smaller ways that make a big difference. In this time when violence is spiking, divisiveness is inciting hatred, and our neighbors are struggling daily, this mission could not be more important.

In 2016, we launched our Love Your Neighborhood Program, a holistic approach to creating change in our neighborhoods that have the greatest need for stability. We hosted three events in the Smoketown, Shelby Park and Park Hill neighborhoods, bringing together nearly 1,000 volunteers and residents to clean up alleyways, revitalize parks and complete over 16 home repairs.

In addition, we partnered with 20 families on energy-efficient homeownership projects throughout West and South Louisville. We engaged over 8,500 volunteers from local businesses, corporations and faith-community throughout the region.

We also made great progress on the infrastructure work at the Park Springs development in eastern Jefferson County and continue to seek partnerships that will provide Habitat families access to other parts of our community. We recognize the need to provide access to diverse parts of our community for qualified homebuyers who happen to be low income. About 2/3 of our homeownership projects in 2016 were located in mixed income areas and 1/3 were located in West Louisville neighborhoods.

Habitat is made up of people like you who are not afraid to get their hands dirty and let their voices be heard to strengthen our community. Together we continue to build homes, communities, and hope through housing solutions. Thank you for joining us and making our work possible.

    Sincerely,

    Rob LockeChief Executive Officer

    every volunteermakes a difference

Love Your NeighborhoodHabitat’s “Love Your Neighborhood” initiative focuses on community development and home repair through partnerships with homeowners and community groups. “Love Your Neighborhood” strengthens and uplifts the dynamic between individual pride, community engagement and neighborhood livability by creating a safer and healthier environment. In 2016, Habitat hosted 3 “Love Your Neighborhood” events. Over the course of the 3 events, 900 volunteers completed 16 exterior home repair projects, cleaned 25 alley ways and improved 2 community parks and a community garden.
