• Elvis Aaron Presley was an American singer and actor. A cultural icon, he is commonly known by the single name Elvis. One of the most popular musicians of the 20th century, he is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or "the King".

• Born January 8, 1935 and died August 16, 1977. • Drafted into military service in 1958, Presley relaunched his

recording career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work. He staged few concerts however, and guided by Parker, proceeded to devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood movies and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided.

• Tupelo, Mississippi was were he was born. • Memphis, Tennessee was were he died.

• Since the beginning of his career, Elvis Presley has had an extensive cultural impact. According to Rolling Stone Magazine, "it was Elvis who made rock 'n' roll the international language of pop." Rolling Stone encyclopedia of Rock and Roll describes Presley as "an American music giant of the 20th century who single-handedly changed the course of music and culture in the mid-1950s."

• DiMaggio was a rookie in 1936. The Rookie of the Year Award did not begin until 1947, with the Dodgers’ Jackie Robinson being the first recipient. Joe had the numbers in his rookie season, by batting .323, having 206 hits, and hitting 29 home runs.

• Joe lost the 1943, 1944, and 1945 season to the military. There is no telling what Joe would have accomplished in the prime of his career.

• Joe played his entire 13 season career with the Yankees, from 1936-1951.

Historical significance • The Suez Crisis increased in intensity on the afternoon of 5

November when the Soviet Union sent diplomatic notes to Britain, France and Israel threatening to crush the aggressors and restore peace in the Middle East through the use of force.

• Egypt had been supplied with arms to combat by the Soviet Union thus indicating that the SU’s sphere of influence had spread to the Middle East.

• The Eisenhower Doctrine was created as a response to the Crisis on January 5 1957. Under this Doctrine, a nation could request American economic aid or aid from US military forces if it was being threatened by armed aggression from another state.

• The Doctrine was made as US felt threatened that the SU is attempting to start a generalized war using the Suez Crisis as a pretext.

• The Crisis also marked the beginning of the end of British and French colonial power.

• He was a German-born theoretical physicist. • He came up with the photoelectric effect(which he won the Nobel

prize for) Brownian motion, special relativity, and general relativity(which is our current theory of gravity).

• He was from Württemberg, Germany on March 14, 1879. He moved to Munich, where he later began his schooling at the Lutipold Gymnasium.

• He later moved to Italy an continued his education at Aarau, Switzerland and in 1896 he entered the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich to be trained as a teacher in physics and mathematics.

• He became a United States Citizen in 1940 and retired from his post in 1945. He died on April 18, 1955 at Princeton New Jersey.
