Even though you live abroad you still belong to Switzerland and

retain certain rights and obligations. Registering with your Swiss

representation gives you access to all available services. Talking

to your representation can help ease you into your new life

abroad.

Services provided by your representation

Your representation serves as your point of contact for the

Federal Administration and can help with a range of issues as

needed: moving abroad, returning to Switzerland, Swiss

passports and/or identity cards, civil status matters,

citizenship, voting in federal elections and referendums,

changes of address, translations/certifications of Swiss driving

licences, etc.

You will need to go to the representation in person to have a

passport issued (after submitting an online application at

www.schweizerpass.ch), if you need to prepare for marriage in

Switzerland, or to have a signature authenticated. You can use

the online desk to access other services from the comfort of

your own home. When using the online desk for certain

purposes, e.g. to register or notify a change in civil status, you

will need to go to the representation and show your original

documents or else send them by post.

For Swiss nationals who have only recently registered, we

recommend the various guides for the Swiss Abroad available

on the FDFA webpages. The FDFA website also provides useful

information on exercising your political rights from abroad.
