Foundation Goals and Tasks

• WE PATIENTS Foundation was created in 2012 in order to support participation of patients in decision-making on healthcare provide expert support to patient organizations to help them

communicate their problems and needs more effectively implement projects on health education and health promotion

• Foundation runs scientific, analytic, research, counseling and training activities for Polish patients and their organizations.

Foundation’s Mission

• Building platforms for cooperation between public administration, patients and their organizations, physicians, academics and business in healthcare.

• Patients are the biggest unused healthcare resource . • Patients – you don’t know how much you can!

EWA BOREK, MD, MBA, President of the Management BoardExpert on healthcare system with 20 years of working experience in big international companies, in years 2004-2010 she worked in AstraZeneca Pharma Poland, where she was Member of Board, being responsible for company’s reputation, corporate PR and CSR as External Affairs Director.

Initiator of educational action within patients’ rights area „Humane Treatment”, run by Gazeta Wyborcza. She also engaged in strong-run educational projects, notably:

Breathe Free – implemented in schools throughout Poland led to popularization of knowledge regarding asthma among 1 million of pupils;

Breast Cancer from A to Z which, being implemented in cooperation with Institute for Patient Rights, bore fruit with the increase of patient rights’ awareness among Polish Amazons.

JOANNA TURKIEWICZ, Member of BoardEconomist and sociologist, dedicated social activist. Currently student of Ph. D. studies in management at Nicolaus Copernicus University. Has the experience of volunteer in non-governmental organizations. Long-term practician in using modern communication tools towards creation of company’s image. Hobbies: social research, marketing communication, social media.

IZABELLA DESSOULAVY-GŁADYSZ, Head of PR & Public AffairsExpert with many years of experience in building effective communication strategy in various sectors. Since 2012 has been dealing with communication issues in health care as well as the impact on the creation of system solutions in health care in Poland. She is also responsible for developing contacts with the media.

KING WOJTASZCZYK, ExpertMA IN health education and prevention of addictions. In hER practice, She deals with the reporting provided services to the National Health Fund, as well as carries out audits of medical records. Author of numerous publications on accounting services with the payer.

MAGDALENA KOŁODZIEJ, Project Manager, English Studies MA, a specialist in marketing and project management. Manager with years of experience in complex management of educational projects in health care, including, among others, Cukrzycowe Centra Edukacji Lilly (Lilly Diabetes Education Centres) and Wolność Oddechu – Zapobiegaj Astmie (Freedom of Breath - Prevent Asthma). She has experience in organizing various types of trainings, conferences and meetings at the national and international level.

ANNA SITEK, Assistant to the Board, sociology and law MA. Anna was a lecturer at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México from October 2013 to June 2014. PhD student at the Institute of Sociology of the Nicolaus Copernicus University. She was a researcher in international projects such as Euroacademy, E-ruralnet – Network Promoting E-learning for Rural Areas and Alternative Agro-Food Network and national among others A good start - information and support centers for non-governmental organisations in rural areas.

ADRIAN JANUS, Lawyer, trainee attorney, fellow of A. Paga Foundation in the framework of the project "The leaders in the health sector." During his studies on Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Mr. Janus was a president of the Scientific Society of Medical Law and a member of Medical Law Section of the university legal clinic, providing pro bono legal advice to people facing infringements of patients' rights.He specializes in the medical and commercial law, both in theory and in practice. He studied Health Law in Poland and the Netherlands, as part of the international workshop "Health Law and Ethics" organized by the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

KINGA MARCINEK, International Cooperation ManagerEnglish Studies MA, specialization translation. She worked as a translator for Education for Democracy Foundation and as a freelancer. Kinga has also experience in working in international environment in corporations such as Royal Bank of Scotland and in cooperation with Goodyear Dunlop. She also studied French for a couple of years in Centre de Linguistique Appliquée de Besançon and Université Sorbonne Nouvelle.

Foundation’s Strategic Projects

„Patients Decide” I and II Edition 2013-2015

„Promotion of public consultation in healthcare” The project’s aim is preparing a group of selected patient

organizations to participation in the process of public consultations in healthcare

The Project is co-financed by Switzerland within the framework of Swiss cooperation with new EU member counties programme and co-created with Urszula Jaworska Foundation.

The Project included a series of trainings and workshops providing substantive and legal support in the field of public consultation and was implemented from 1.10.2013 till 31.07.2014.

New, II edition of the project Patients Decide started in September 2014 and will continue till August 2015 thanks to a grant received from Batory Foundation from Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area

The tasks of the second edition of the project "Patients Decide" 2014/2015

The aim of the second edition of the project is to prepare patient organizations to effectively act in the field of influencing changes in the healthcare environment.

The Project implemented in partnership with Urszula Jaworska Foundation, Active Patient Foundation ARGUS, Innopharm Drug Information Centre, and Factory of Social Communication

The project’s aim is substantive and organizational preparation of a selected group of patient organization to participate in the process of public consultation in terms of healthcare.

The Project shows how by involving in public consultation it is possible to build position and reputation of an organization and shape the surroundings in healthcare.

The project activities are to educate and increase competence of patients and patient organization leaders

After the project’s conclusion in 2015 the leaders of patient organization will know how to plan and implement the desired systemic change in healthcare on the basis of social dialogue.

Foundation’s Strategic Projects

„Parents for Health” „An action to change the standard of preventive pediatric care for children aged 0-5 implemented with the Nutricia Foundation

The Project of WE Patients Foundation is being implemented in partnership with Nutricia Foundation

The project’s aim is improving the standard of preventive pediatric care for children aged 0-5.

WE Patients Foundation invited a group of blogging mothers to learn their opinion on the quality of preventive pediatric care and to let them share their experiences and needs

WHY ENGAGING PARENTS, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ARE ACTIVE IN NEW MEDIA IS SO IMPORTANT? Nowadays the doctor is not the main and only source of information

when it comes to health and childcare for parents. Parent Bloggers are becoming an increasingly influential group and

are a source of information on childcare for others.

The activities undertaken within the project „Parents for Health” in 2014

Conducting three meetings for parent bloggers in the field of patient rights, health and child nutrition.

Creating an Internet portal with a database of basic medical and nutritional advice www.rodzicedlazdrowia.pl and www.glodnizmian.pl

Opinion analysis of parents. We produced a report and recommendations for changes in the preventive pediatric care system based on the feedback from over 1,600 respondents in the survey questionnaire.

We organized a debates among doctors, nurses, parents, nutritionists and public administration and prepared the proposal of primary, secondary prevention and screeining for childhood obesity

Parents collected over 10.000 signatures supporting dietary advice for pregnant women and parents of small children

Experts prepared the appliction to include the dietary advice to health care services basket
