Over the forecast period, candle air fresheners will continue to drive category growth in Western Europe as they offer the additional benefit of creating a pleasant ambience besides the functional aspect of a traditional air freshener product.

Fragrances have been evolving from the basic offerings – such as vanilla, lavender, spring and floral – to more complex blends. Two strong trends in combined fragrances were the advent of fragrances which remind consumers of pastry delicacies, the most popular examples being apple-cinnamon, gingerbread and chocolate-caramel, and those that evoke exotic travel destinations – such as Japanese Peony, Precious Wood from Indonesia or Moroccan Amber, offering a sense of escape to French households, as a large majority opted for destinations closer to home for holidays in recent years.
