WEATHER WORD BAG Sentence Formulation & Word Usage Weather Word Bag is an activity used to improve sentence formulation and appropriate contextual use of words. Directions and patterns are included. Directions for making Weather Word Bags: 1) Copy the Weather Word Bag picture and Goals and Objectives found on page ____onto heavy paper. 2) Have the students cut the Weather Word Bag picture and Goals and Objectives out and then cut these two sections apart in the center. 3) Give the students specific directions for gluing the picture onto the front of a bag, aligning the bottom of the picture with the bottom of the bag. ) Next, give the students specific directions for gluing the goals and objectives on the back of the bag, while making sure to not glue them to the bottom flap. 5) Copy the Weather Word Cards on pages ____ through ______. 6) Direct the students to carefully cut the Weather Word Cards apart and place them inside the bag. 7) Additional Weather Word Cards weather word cards may be added using the blanks provided on pages _____ through _______. 8) Additional generic word cards that are appropriate to students’ vocabulary and reading levels can be added. (Dolch or other high frequency words) 9) Direct the students to fold the top of the bag down about 1 inch so that when the word cards are stored in the bag it will prevent spillage. 10) The SLP/teacher instructs the students to pick one or more cards from the bag and create/ verbalize an interesting sentence using that word or words. 11) Students may be asked to write some of the sentences they formulate. Challenge Level 1: The student must pick two or more word cards and then create a single sentence using all chosen words. These may be written on the Weather Word Stationery on page ____________. Challenge Level 2: Have each student chain or relate the new sentence to the sentence given by the previous participant, thus creating a story.

    Weather Word Bag contains vocabulary word cards. The student draws a card from the bag, reads and says the word, tells what the word means, and then uses the word in a good sentence. The student may then write that sentence.

    Challenge: The student draws two or more word cards from the bag, and then they must use the drawn words in a single sentence. The student may then write that sentence. (optional)
