WeatherSentry Wind Energy Edition helps wind power professionals stay

on top of changing weather conditions that can endanger employees and

impact operations.

WeatherSentry Wind Energy Edition provides the tools that you need to alert your personnel to approaching severe weather, including email or cell phone accessibility for optimal productivity. Critical weather information can also help keep your employees safer while servicing equipment in the field.

A preemptive strike

Lightning is one of your greatest concerns. It puts employees at risk and threatens your turbines. Lightning Manager® delivers real-time strike information for the United States and Canada, rather than predictions that can lead to false alarms — or delayed data that often provides notification after the danger has already passed. Lightning Manager monitors strikes as they approach, based on custom advisory and warning zones — up to 60 miles out is available as an additional purchase — represented by colored rings around your locations. When strikes occur within these zones, audio and visual alerts are triggered. No need to constantly monitor for lightning — this tool does it for you. An all-clear notification can also be set up to let you know when the danger has passed, and it includes a countdown to show you when that notification will likely occur. Animate lightning strikes to better show if lightning is intensifying or subsiding. See where strikes are most concentrated. You can even pair animated lightning strikes with real-time local radar for a better sense of where storms are headed. Display all strokes for a lightning strike — not just the primary stroke — to help you pinpoint and repair damage more quickly. Click on a color-coded icon to view details such as time, latitude, longitude, and more, so you can quickly trace lightning damage and restore your operations. Plus, see lightning information on your cell phone or PDA when you’re on the go. This exciting capability can help you and your employees stay on top of problem conditions while out on towers, for greater safety and damage prevention. To help you keep crews safer and ensure efficient operations, our future lightning tool shows the threat level for lightning at your wind farms for the next hour, using a color-coded display.

Consult a meteorologist

With WeatherSentry Online Wind Energy Edition, you can access our team of experienced meteorologists online from your computer or on your mobile device anywhere you go. Ask a question and receive an answer. Plus, you can see what’s on the mind of your industry peers by viewing other questions and answers. In addition, our meteorologists post twice-daily forecast briefings tailored to your region of the country.

New! Turbine blade inspection reports

Lightning is one of the most significant causes of blade damage, which can often lead to unplanned outages. Now you can pro-actively assess and repair potential issues with our new turbine blade inspection reports.

We’ll show you which turbines have recently experienced nearby lightning activity, along with details about each strike, including date, time, exact location, amplitude, and polarity. With this information, you can ensure efficient repairs, avoid more expensive replacements, aid documentation, and minimize generation loss.

Lightning archiving

You can also see recent lightning stroke data for the past 72 hours. Display the information on detailed, high-resolution maps or archive the data for part or all of your wind farm, including time, latitude, longitude, amplitude, and polarity, into an Excel or .csv file. This allows you to document, analyze, and report on lightning activity in your area for damage prevention, analysis, planning, insurance claims, and more.

Business-class mobile weather apps

iPhone® and Android™ users can get dynamic, location-based weather and lightning alerts for their current location. Our technology instantly delivers roaming weather information and customized notifications based on the phone’s GPS. This helps your crews stay on top of changing conditions as they travel to and work at multiple wind farms. Pre-programmed locations are also supported, while layered, interactive maps offer ease of use. WeatherSentry Mobile® is still available for other cell phones to provide on-the-go weather information.

Forecast the future

WeatherSentry Wind Energy Edition supplies accurate, detailed local forecasts based on our proprietary forecasting system, which is managed 24/7 by experienced meteorologists. You can anticipate conditions up to 15 days out, with hourly outlooks for the first three days.

Forecasts are updated every hour so you always have the best, most current look at what will happen. This allows you to better plan daily maintenance schedules and avoid being surprised by weather conditions that could interrupt projects. Forecasted wind speed and more can be viewed as graphs. Set thresholds to automatically highlight items of concern — including the probability of ice. In 2014, for the eighth consecutive year, Schneider Electric precipitation forecasts outperformed others in the industry in an independent study by ForecastWatch.com. With our storm ETA tool, you can click on a storm corridor to see the estimated times of arrival for cities and your assets in its path.

Keep a watchful eye

The system’s Alert Manager® notifies you of significant weather changes. Set custom alarms for critical weather updates, delivered directly to your PC or to an unlimited number of users via cell phone.

Next generation mapping

High-resolution, street-level mapping provides the ultimate view of operational conditions. Simplified, user-friendly navigation allows you to point and click to drill down into the locations you wish to monitor.

Customize your weather views

Monitor all severe weather on one innovative interface — radar, storm tracks, winds, and lightning — for a complete view of approaching storms. National Weather Service (NWS) warnings, watches, and advisories, including Areas of Maximum Impact, can also be viewed as layers. Select and display custom combinations of the weather and map data most important to your operations — including custom layers featuring your key infrastructure — to see how the weather is affecting you. Full-screen display of maps and graphics provides unmatched visualization. In addition, we’ve added a new multi-panel display option, which shows you all of the information that you need on a single screen, for faster, better-informed decision making. Real-time, map-based local storm reports provide better visibility into high-impact weather in your area, via first-hand accounts.
