We worried about U-factors and Solar Heat Gain Coefficients so you don’t have to.

Our climate-specific energy packages have the right mix of components to give you lower U-factors and Solar Heat Gain Coefficients, and lower is better.

U-factorThe U-factor (or inverse of R-value) measures the amount of heat escaping your home. This is especially important in homes in Northern climates with more heating days per year. A lower U-factor means less heat loss, which lowers your heating costs. Our 3D MAX™ energy package gives you the lowest U-factor.

Solar Heat Gain CoefficientsThe Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) measures the amount of heat coming into your home. This is especially important in homes in Southern climates with more cooling days per year. A lower SHGC means less heat enters your home, which reduces your cooling costs. Our 3D MAX energy package gives you the lowest SHGC.

UV lightA lower SHGC also means fewer UV rays enter your home. In fact, our 3D MAX energy package can further help protect your home’s interior from those harmful UV rays compared to clear glass. Fewer UV rays means less damage to your furnishings.

Customized to the climate zone you live in, each of our energy packages has one of these glass products.

SunCoat Low-E Glass

SunCoat is a clear coating that is applied standard to one side of the glass in all of our dual-pane windows. This microscopically-thin coating reflects heat from the sun in the summer and reflects back interior heat in the winter. SunCoat also reduces harmful UV rays that fade carpet and furniture up to 84%.

SunCoatMAX Low-E Glass

SunCoatMAX is like sunscreen for your home. It provides the best clarity and highest performance of all solar gain Low-E glass products. It reduces harmful UV rays that fade carpet and furniture up to 95% while maximizing light in your home.

EdgeGard Spacer

Traditional spacers simply divided two panes of glass and didn’t contribute to a window’s efficiency. Milgard’s EdgeGard spacer uses a more advanced design that provides superior insulating properties and reduced condensation.

EdgeGardMAX Spacer

Milgard’s EdgeGardMAX spacer features a technologically advanced, patented all-foam design. All-foam spacers conduct noticeably less energy, thereby making cold windows feel warmer and warm windows feel cooler. With up to 18% improved sound absorption over traditional spacers, you’ll also hear less noise.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (part of the Economic Stimulus plan) modifies and extends federal tax credits for “qualified energy improvements,” which includes replacement windows and doors. The new tax credits are for 30% of the cost of the eligible product up to an aggregate limit of $1500 for tax years 2009 and 2010.
