STEP 1 – LOGIN TO AIMS & LAUNCH COURSE REGISTRATION MODULE
1. Login to AIMS with your EID and password.
2. Go to the Course Registration tab, under For 2019 Cohort (New Students Admitted in 2019/20)
section, click Main Menu for Web Add/Drop.

3. The Course Registration module showing the main menu will pop up in a new window.
STEP 2 – CHECK REGISTRATION STATUS & TIME TICKET INFORMATION
4. To check your registration status and time ticket information, click Prepare for Registration.

5. Select the appropriate term from the dropdown box and click Continue.
6. Your registration status and time ticket information for the selected term will be shown.
7. To return to the Course Registration main menu, click Registration in the breadcrumb trail at the top
of the page.

STEP 3 – VIEW PERSONAL CLASS SCHEDULE
8. If your academic unit has pre‐registered any courses for you, the courses will appear in your
personal class schedule. To view your schedule, at the Course Registration main menu, click View
Registration Information.
9. Select the appropriate term from the dropdown box. Different details of your personal class
schedule will be shown in the upper and lower panels.

10. Your registered course(s) in the selected term will be shown in the upper panel. Clicking on a Course
Title will launch the Class Details for the course, listing information such as registration restrictions,
pre‐requisites, linked sections, etc.
11. Details on your weekly timetable and meeting schedule of individual courses are shown in the lower
panel. There are two tabs:
The Schedule tab will display your class schedule by day and time in a matrix timetable.

The Schedule Details tab will show the full details of your registered courses.
12. The panels can be expanded, collapsed and reset via the buttons in the centre. The panels can also be resized by clicking and dragging the centre bar.
STEP 4 – ADD/DROP COURSES
13. At the Course Registration main menu, click Register for Classes.

14. Select the appropriate term from the dropdown box and click Continue.
15. The Register for Classes interface will appear. The upper panel contains the Quick Guide and the
CRN Submission Form. The lower panels show your existing timetable and course registration
summary.
16. Carefully read through the Quick Guide in the upper panel. Click the Panels button at the bottom
left corner to expand/collapse the panels.
I. ADD COURSES
SEARCH FOR CRNS IN MASTER CLASS SCHEDULE
17. To search for classes or to look up CRNs (Course Registration Number) of classes you want to add,
click the Master Class Schedule button at the top right corner.
18. A new window will pop up with a login prompt. Login with your EID and AIMS password.

19. Select the appropriate term and click Submit Term.
20. Select the appropriate search criteria (press and hold the Ctrl key to select multiple items) and click
Search Class.
21. Courses matching the search criteria will be listed in the search results. Note that only courses listed
as “Y” under the WEB column are web‐enabled and can be added/dropped online. Those listed as
“N” are non‐web‐enabled and can only be added/dropped via paper add/drop forms.
22. Click on a course entry to view details of course sections on offer for that particular course.
23. Look through the course sections available, taking note of any pre‐requisite requirements and registration restrictions for specific sections. Choose a section that works for your schedule and is applicable to your programme, and write down the CRN.

Note that if a course has both lecture and tutorial/lab sections, you must add both components to your schedule at the same time. You will not be able to add the course to your schedule if one of the components is missing.
Please refer to the SGS website (Students > Taught Postgraduate Programmes > Course Registration > Abbreviations) for more details on the definitions of different abbreviations in the Master Class Schedule.
ADD COURSES VIA THE REGISTER FOR CLASSES INTERFACE
24. Return to the Register for Classes interface window. Make sure the lower panels are expanded,
showing the timetable matrix and course registration summary. Click the Panels button at the
bottom left corner to expand the lower panel if necessary.

25. Enter the CRN(s) you have written down into the CRN text boxes (one CRN in each text box). Click
+Add input box if you need extra text boxes.
26. When you are done, click the Add CRNs to Summary button to preview your timetable.
27. Courses added will be listed with a “Pending” Status in the Summary panel and will also be available
for preview in the timetable matrix under the Schedule panel.
28. Review your course selection:
To cancel a selected course, select “Remove” from the Action dropdown box under the
Summary panel.
To confirm the listed course registration selection, click the Submit button.

29. Results of the course registration submission will be shown:
Course sections successfully added to your schedule will be shown with a green check mark in
the timetable matrix and will be listed with a “Registered” Status under the Summary panel. A
Save Successful message will also be displayed at the top right corner notifications area.
If the system fails to add a course to your schedule, the course in error will be shown in red in
the timetable matrix and will be listed with an “Errors Preventing Registration” Status under the
Summary panel. Error details will be displayed upon mouseover of this status and also at the top
right corner notifications area.
30. If there are any course sections with errors, revise your selection by removing the course sections in
error and/or adding addition CRNs in the upper panel as necessary. Click the Submit button again to
confirm the changes.
II. DROP COURSES
31. While still within the Register for Classes interface, make sure the lower panels are expanded,
showing the timetable matrix and course registration summary. Click the Panels button at the
bottom left corner to expand the lower panel if necessary.
32. To drop a registered course section, locate it under the Summary panel and select “Web drop” from
the Action dropdown box. Note that only web‐enabled course sections will have the “Web drop”
Action option.

33. Click the Submit button to confirm the changes.
34. Course sections successfully dropped will no longer appear in the timetable matrix and will be listed
with a “Deleted” Status under the Summary panel. A Save Successful message will also be displayed
at the top right corner notifications area.

STEP 5 – EMAIL/PRINT CLASS SCHEDULE
35. The email/print class schedule functions can be accessed:
within the Register for Classes interface > under the Schedule and Options tab in the upper
panel, or
within the View Registration Information interface > under the Look up a Schedule tab in the
upper panel
36. Click the icon to send your class schedule and a downloadable calendar file (.ics) to specified
email addresses. Enter email addresses and the email subject in the space provided and click Send.

37. Click the icon to launch a new window with a printer‐friendly version of your class schedule.
