B IBLE STUDY

9 .0 0 A.M. - 9 .4 5 A.M.

Sub-Theme: Godly LeadershipTopic: Types/Styles Of Leadership.Text: Ezek. 34: 1-6; John 10: 1-16.Aims: i. Identifythevarious types / styles of leadership;

ii. Stimulate the desire for appropriate style of leadership;

iii. Warn against the impending danger of ungodly leadership styles.

IntroductionAmong Christians and political leaders, there are shepherds and hirelings. These may be recognized by their type /style of leadership. The shepherds keeps the flocks safe hirelings prey on the flock while the shepherds keep the flock safe, lead and guide them on their journey of life, while the hirelings prey on the flock. The personality, environment, and understanding of a leader contribute greatly to his/her leadership style/type.

Study Guide1. From Dan. 3: 4-6; Matt.4:18, 19; Acts 15:6-21; Philemon 14,

21; identify some types/styles of leadership.2. Define and discuss the following leadership types / styles

(relate to the key texts as far as possible)i. Autocratic leadership – Dan.3:4-6; 1 Peter 5:3;ii. Democratic leadership – Acts 15:6-7, 12-14;iii. Transformational leadership – Mark 3:14; Phil.2:20-

23;iv. Team leadership – 1 Sam. 30:1-17.v. Laisser-faire leadership – I Kings 20:39-40;vi. Spiritual leadership – Rom.8:14; Num.27:1-7.vii. Servant leadership – Mk.10:42-45; John 13:3-15.

3. What leadership style/type do you think the Scripture advocates for the Church? Mk.10:42-45; John 13:3-15. How much of it do you find in the Church today?Why?

4. What are some likely dangers of ungodly leadership type and style? Ezek.34:1-2, 7-10.

Conclusion: Christians who occupy leadership positions as politicians or disciplers must uphold the tenets of spiritual leadership at all times because all authority comes from God.

Food For Thought: The leadership style adopted may make ormar a godly leader.

Memory Verse: Ezek. 34: 2b.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S CALL.

Thank You MessageOn behalf of the Clergy Family of this Parish, we express our sincere appreciation to all members of this Church for the support you gave to us to work in your midst. We give glory to God that our fellowship was fulfilling, today being our last Sunday as Vicar & Curate. We owe you our appreciation. God Bless.

“And Mary said, Behold the housemaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her” Luke 1:38.

The Random House Dictionary defines acquiescence as the act of acquiescing or giving tacit assent; agreement or consent by silence or without objection; Compliance.

In the above quoted Bible passage, Mary submitted herself completely to God’s will and trusted His Message. She willingly accepted the honour and the reproach that being the Mother of the holy child would bring. Believers should follow the example of Mary in purity, chastity, love for God, faith in His Word, and a willingness to obey the Holy Spirit.

According to Romans 12:2, believers can count on the will of God for their life being good, acceptable and perfect. Therefore, there is never any good reason to not fully surrender to it.

In the Christian’s Reasonable Service, Dutch Reformer Wilehimus a Brakel defends the biblical conviction that God’s will, as revealed in Scripture is always worthy of our complete submission since it is always “Congruent with His holy character.” In other words, because God is holy then His Commands are holy and because His Commands are holy, then our

obedience to them is always for our own good. Realizing this should bring us to full whole hearted surrender. We should always respond “Amen” when God says, “I will.” Note that Paul in Romans 1:5 defines faith in terms of “Obedience.” For Paul, the nature of saving faith must be determined by its initial intention, namely, a joining of one’s life to God through Jesus Christ in love, devotion, gratitude, and obedience (Jas. 2:17).

The will of God is not merely a regulative principle. It is simultaneously an urgent motive, prompting the soul to be diligent, sincere, and persevering in doing God’s pleasure. Even though there is a great reward in the keeping of God’s commandments and one may and must be quickened by it to a godly walk, the will of God is nevertheless the loftiest, most influential, and endearing object of affection. Blessed is he who relates to the will of God in such a manner, submitting himself to it in his walk both in prosperity and adversity.

Let us always remember, and never forget, “The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2:17.
