Hello Year 3, I hope you enjoyed the mental wellbeing activities last week. You can go back to them anytime you are feeling like you need a boost of positivity. On our class page of the web site, you will now find a new set of Maths and English tasks together with the ‘Other subjects’ document that includes French, Phonics, PE, Topic and Outdoor learning. Some of the activities might take you more than one day of your allotted Maths or English time and that’s fine. Please try to complete the longer writing tasks. I know that some of you will find this difficult, particularly at home, but it is so important that you keep writing, remembering punctuation and checking spellings. Handwriting is important too and I am seeing lots of examples of neat work. Well done. I have shared one of Charlie Mackesy’s drawings. It tells us that although we all might be finding life right now difficult, confusing or sad, the happier times haven’t completely gone away, and life will get better and much closer to normal again. So, keep smiling and looking forward to the times when you can play with your friends, see your extended family and we can all be together again at school. Mrs Chaplin Phonics – we will be re- visiting the long ‘a’ sound this week. Task 1: Use the table below to remind yourself of all the different graphemes for the long ‘a’ sound.

Hello Year 3,

I hope you enjoyed the mental wellbeing activities last week.

Mrs Chaplin

Phonics – we will be re-visiting the long ‘a’ sound this week.

Task 2: Choose five of the words from the box above and use them in super sentences. Make sure you know what the word means.

Task 2 -

Task 3: Crossword puzzle – all the answers contain the ‘a’ sound

A vicious reptile found in America

Task 4:

Match the definition with the correct word.

sailor meat often eaten with an egg

French

Bonjour! To access this week’s French learning you will need to go to the following website and login with the information below:

www.languageangels.com/homeschool

User Name: Cuddin1148

Password: lahome

You will gain access to the Language Angels dashboard. I would like you to choose Intermediate Level, Unit 6 – As-tu un animal? This new topic is about pets and the title of the topic means, ‘Have you got an animal?’ You will learn eight nouns for animals and the correct article for each noun. Every noun in French is either masculine (un/le) or feminine (une/la).

Step 1: Go to lesson 1. Watch and engage in the power point. If you click on the speaker, you will be able to hear a voice pronounce the words for you. This is very important. Try repeating them back to practise your own accent.

Step 2: Choose one of the challenges from the web page. Mild is less challenge, spicy is standard challenge and hot is more challenge.

Extra challenge: Have a go at the Pets word search on the next page.

Music – Can I explore pulse and rhythm?

Firstly, watch this video featuring Anna Meridith https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zcbkcj6/articles/z2mqw6f

Then, join in with this rhythm warm up with Chime from artis https://vimeo.com/32571333

Finally look at both videos from Ten Pieces Connect It link (Introduction with Dev) and then the full performance.

Connect It

Step 1 – Watch and listen to Connect It by composer Anna Meredith. Write down four different ways that the performers make sounds. For example, clapping:

1.

2.

3.

4.

Step 2 – Listen to the music again and answer the following questions:

What is tempo?

How fast or slow is the music?

Use two adjectives to describe the music

What is the dynamic? Is the music quiet or loud? Does it change?

The music makes me feel……

Step 3 – Pick your favourite body movement from Connect It and try doing it yourself. Draw a picture of yourself doing the movement.

Topic - Art

LO: Can I create my own pointillist painting?

Mild:

Choose an object from around your home. Draw the outline of that object and then use the techniques you have learnt to colour and shade that object

Spicy:

Find a landscape that you would like to draw. This could be your view from a window or an interesting view while out on a walk. Use your ideas from the human camera exercise from Wednesday. Use this view/picture to create your own pointillist picture.

Make sure you use optical mixing within your picture.

Hot:

Find a landscape that you would like to draw. This could be your view from a window or an interesting view while out on a walk. Use your ideas from the human camera exercise from Wednesday. Use this view/picture to create your own pointillist picture. Make sure you use the pointillist techniques we have learnt to complete your picture.

Step 1: Select the slides from the list of this week’s work on our class web page. It’s called ‘Art topic – Seurat and Pointillism Slide 6’

Step 2: Look carefully at the slides and try to answer the questions as you go along. You could talk to another member of your family about what you can see and what you think. I would recommend also using this time to think about the different techniques we have learnt over the last few weeks.

Optical mixing – The mixing of two different coloured dots that mix when you step back and look at the painting.

Shading and effects – More dots for darker areas and less dots for lighter areas.

Step 3: Today you are going to create your final pointillist painting. For the neatest work, I would recommend working with thin felt tips/colouring pencils or very thin paint brushes. Choose one of the challenges above and enjoy creating your artwork! Find a landscape that you might like to draw. Do not rush this activity. You may want to keep coming back to it throughout the week.

ICT – Dance Mat Activity

Smart Crew Activity – What should you keep safe?

First watch the latest instalment with the SMART crew.

https://www.childnet.com/resources/the-adventures-of-kara-winston-and-the-smart-crew/chapter5

Today the SMART crew are looking at the M of SMART.

Read this information with an adult.

M – Meeting: Remember, people online that you do not know in the real world are still strangers, no matter how long you have been talking to them or how friendly they are. Meeting up with these people can be very dangerous, so you must never arrange to meet up alone, or even with a friend – you could be putting them into a harmful situation too. If you absolutely feel that you must meet a friend that you’ve made on the internet, a trusted adult must be present with you to meet your friend in person. If someone you are talking to online makes you feel uncomfortable or asks you to do anything you don’t want to do, you must talk to an adult you trust.

Now answer these questions –

Who could you report this stranger to?

How could you collect evidence from your web page to show your trusted adult?

Next - Download the Choice Wheel Activity Sheet. Cut out the wheel and use something like a split pin to connect the two bits of your wheel. Then get an adult to read the questions from the sheet. Use the wheel to help answer those questions.

Extension – Download the SMART online quiz and give the questions a go with some adult support.
