P: Gracious God,

C: have mercy on us.

We confess that we have turned from you, and given ourselves into the power of sin. We are truly sorry and humbly repent. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things we have done and things we have failed to do. Turn us again to you and uphold us by your Spirit, so that we may live and serve you in newness of life through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C: AMEN.

P: Almighty God in his mercy has given his Son to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. Through his Holy Spirit he cleanses us and gives us power to proclaim the mighty deeds of God who called us out of darkness into the splendor of his light. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ and by his authority, I declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the (+) Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: AMEN.

THE GATHERING HYMN (Stand)

P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you.

KYRIE

CANTICLE OF PRAISE “GLORY TO GOD”

the prayer of the day

P: O God, in the transfiguration of your Son you confirmed the mysteries of the faith by the witness of Moses and Elijah, and in the voice from the bright cloud declaring Jesus your beloved Son, you foreshadowed our adoption as your children. Make us heirs with Christ of your glory, and bring us to enjoy its fullness, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: AMEN.

THE first reading II Kings 2:1-12

PSALMODY PSALM 50:1-6

The LORD, the God of gods, has spoken;

he has called the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.

Out of Zion, perfect in its beauty,

God reveals himself in glory.

Our God will come and will not keep silence;

before him there is a consuming flame, and round about him a

raging storm.

He calls the heavens and the earth from above

to witness the judgment of his people.

"Gather before me my loyal followers,

those who have made a covenant with me and sealed it with sacrifice."

Let the heavens declare the rightness of his cause;

for God himself is judge.

THE HYMN OF THE DAY

PROFESSION OF FAITH NICENE CREED

A: With the whole church, let us confess our faith.

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

by the power of the Holy Spirit,

be became incarnate from the virgin Mary,

and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.

He has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.

We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

( + ) We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.
