Club History

The Petroleum Club of Shreveport traces its origins to a 1948 meeting of oil industry employees. The group, mostly draftsmen, geologists and engineers, believed working people in the oil industry needed a place downtown where they could enjoy lunch together.

The club’s first five years were spent in the Washington-Youree Hotel. It later moved to the Petroleum Tower but returned to the Washington-Youree where it stayed until 1969. With the opening of Mid-South Towers, the club made its final move.

Today the Petroleum Club of Shreveport rivals’ private clubs throughout the southwest – a central location with breath-taking views of the city, outstanding food and meticulous service, and a spirit of congeniality and hospitality. Although Shreveport’s economy was once heavily dependent on petroleum, today its economy is diverse. The Petroleum Club of Shreveport reflects that diversity. The nondiscriminatory membership policy has contributed to the club’s growth and enhanced its reputation.

We are the premier private business and social club in the Ark-La-Tex. Located in the heart of Shreveport, atop the Mid-South Towers Building, the Club is surrounded by the beautiful Shreveport skyline. Our growing membership roster extends beyond the oil and gas community to include legal, business, medical, diplomatic and educational leaders throughout the city. Club members experience cuisine and service of world class quality.The Club’s setting is perfect for entertaining clients, friends and family. The following information contains eligibility and classes including pricing, other general Petroleum Club of Shreveport information and a list of reciprocal clubs. A membership application is also included. All applicants must complete the membership application to be considered for membership. This application goes before the Board of Directors for review and approval.

ELIGIBILITY CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP & FEES

Eligibility Persons of the age 21 years or more who are of good moral character shall be eligible for membership in the club.

Resident Personal (Primary)Resident membership entitles member and spouse full use of the club facilities to the person residing or having a regular place of business within twenty-five miles of Shreveport. Each applicant for membership in this classification shall be a minimum of 35 years of age. Resident members shall be entitled to vote. Dues $140.00/Initiation Fee $300

Non-ResidentCommuting Membership entitles member and spouse who neither resides nor has a place of business within twenty-five miles of Shreveport may be elected as a non-resident member. Non-resident members shall not be entitled to vote.Dues $75/Initiation Fee $200

Young ProfessionalEach applicant for membership in this classification shall reside within twenty-five miles of Shreveport, be at least 30 years of age but not older than 35 years of age. This classification is for both married and unmarried professionals. When a person in this classification attains the age of 35, this person must convert to a full resident classification to remain a member in good standing. Young Professional members shall be entitled to vote.Dues $75/Initiation Fee $100

Jr. Young ProfessionalEach applicant for membership in this classification shall reside within twenty-five miles of Shreveport, be at least 21 years of age but not older than 30 years of age. This classification is for both married and unmarried professionals. When a person in this classification attains the age of 30, this person must convert to a Young Professional classification to remain a member in good standing.Dues $30.00/Initiation $50

Each event that comes through our doors is extremely important to us and we take the time to go through all your details with care. Reciprocal Club Experience Planning on an out of town trip? Reciprocal clubs, whether located in the United States or in other countries, may be used for both business and pleasure. Many of our reciprocal clubs have rooms available for an overnight stay, as well as athletic clubs, spas, and dining facilities that are available to you and a guest. Being a member of The Petroleum Club of Shreveport allows you to enjoy the most elegant accommodations that many hotels cannot match. How does reciprocity work?

When you are a Petroleum Club Member and wish to visit a reciprocal club, the first step is to call or email the membership office of The Petroleum Club and request a letter of introduction. After the introduction, you can make the arrangements for reservations to use the facility as desired. Once the reservations are made you are set for the visit. Most clubs will settle your charges upon departure with a credit card, much like a hotel or by statement or will be billed to the club. There is no cost to request the introduction letter and no limit to the number of letters you can request per year. If you review our reciprocal list and don’t see a club that you would like to be a reciprocal, please make recommendations to the membership office. All members of Petroleum Club of Shreveport in good standing are welcome to recommend new clubs to be added to



our list. Please take advantage of this opportunity when traveling, as it is a wonderful luxury.
