Families and friendships

Talk about families - Children love to hear stories about you when you were their age and growing up, and about relatives near and far.

Our Families. All our families are different.Listen to Scratch Garden Families Song https://youtu.be/ZcpZKXPnbZs

Draw or paint family portraits, family trees or start a family/selfie gallery.

Using old cardboard boxes and coloured pens, pencils, paint, bits of coloured paper…

Feelings and making choices

Write and send a letter to people you miss. Writing and sending a letter can give you the space to talk about feelings. If you prefer you could just draw a picture or make a card to send to the person you miss. It's a great way to help children stay in touch.

Draw, write about or just imagine your happy place include as much detail as possible.

Dear Uncle Colin,

How are you? I hope you are OK. I am missing you. I was upset today because I wanted to visit but Mum says we can’t. I thought I’d send you a picture instead….

If you are finding it hard to imagine try listening to Jamie from Cosmic Kids in this Guided relaxation: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBnPlqQFPKs

www.childline.org.uk/toolbox/calm-zone has great activities or tools to help children feel better when they are feeling anxious, scared, sad or just need some calm time.

Make a coping toolbox - Fill a box or bag with things which remind your child of good times. For example: Photos, drawings, a gift which someone has given them, a sachet of hot chocolate, a list of activities they can do to relax: Cuddle a teddy, watch a favourite DVD, do some yoga: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT-s1-phgxs ordance: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziLHZeKbMUo

ONLINE SAFETY

Feeling safe and happy online - Talk to your child about what they are accessing online, how it makes them feel and reassure them to always speak to you or a trusted adult if they see or hear something online that upsets them.
