REFLECTIVE JOURNALS

REFLECTIVE JOURNALS are also known as Rehearsal Diaries, Acting Logs and Technique Logs. Please categorise and title with the date and state Saints and Sinners commission.

Dos and don’ts of writing a reflective journal:

Do write a reflective journal after EVERY lesson

8

Page 9: hannahkingwsc.files.wordpress.com  · Web view6/17/2017  · Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts: Acting, Dance, Musical Theatre & Production Arts. Pathways

Do think about what you have LEARNED in the session apply this to your progressDo refer back to your research Do continue to research throughout a commission – Research isn’t done in isolationDo continually reflect on your skills and practice and how it is improvingDo consider problem solving Do consider whether you have do something in isolation before the next session (eg learn a scene) or whether you need to work with someone elseDo use other stimulus for reflection (notes from the board, video of rehearsal) but ALSO write up the actions/feedback from itDo write questions to answer if you are doing a vlog – don’t let a vlog become a comedy waffle

Don’t only say what happened that dayDon’t get behind in writing your reflective journalsDon’t rely on others to document the session – your reflection is your responsibilityDon’t get distracted by others when making a vlogDon’t leave everything to the last minute Don’t get personal – take ownership of your own progress Don’t make excuses!

ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE Don’t go for the obvious, think around it and come up with something unique to you and your group. Look for creative solutions when problems arise and embrace the challenges, they could be the foundation for

the future success of your project. Be of value to your group so that your group is stronger because of you, not in-spite of you. Hang on in there when it’s tough. Use staff as a resource, they have experience which may help you find the solution you’re looking for, they can

act as an outside eye and a sounding board. Use contacts you have to source things you may need. This is your chance to experience running your own company with all the things this entails, the highs and the

lows and the determination to get it done and to the highest standard you are capable of.
