Introduction

1. NOTE OF IMPORTANT GUIDANCE: By no means is it my intention to persuade you into using or believing everything in this manual. It is my hopes that you partake of this manual as a factual knowledge guide. It is up to you to determine what you want to believe or not to believe. In other words: Take what you want and leave the rest! I only present biblical facts and knowledge, whether it be from a Christian Bible; The Quran; I Ching; Hebrew Bible (Tanakh); Torah; the Ethiopian Bible; The Devil’s Bible; The Kojiki ( 古 事 記 , (Shinto)"Records of Ancient Matters" or "An Account of Ancient Matters"), also known as Furukotofumi; the Urantia Book (196 Books), or any other Bible! Every one of the aforementioned are “HOLY BIBLES”.

I’M NOT HERE TO IMPRESS YOU , OR TO PERSUADE YOU INTO ANYTHING

2. Jesus vs. Christ.

a. Indeed, Yeshua is the Hebrew name for Jesus. It means: "Yahweh [the Lord] is Salvation.". The English spelling of Yeshua is “Joshua.” However, when translated from Hebrew into the Greek language, in which the New Testament was written, the name Yeshua becomes Iēsous. The English spelling for Iēsous is “Jesus.”

b. The word “Christ” means: The “Anointed One” - Our Lord · the Messiah · the Savior · the Son of God · the Lamb of God · the Good Shepherd · the Redeemer · the Prince of Peace · the Nazarene · the Galilean. It is NOT a surname. It is a job title! Therefore, using the term “Jesus Christ” is totally WRONG! How would you like to be called: Susan - Police Officer, or Paul - Taxi Cab Driver? Jesus had no middle or last name. If anything, He presented himself as: Jesus of Nazareth, son of Joseph.

c. “Christ” comes from the Greek word Christos, meaning

Page 6: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

6

“anointed one” or “chosen one.” This is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word Mashiach, or “Messiah.” “Jesus” is the Lord’s human name which came about 500 years ago, when the “J” was introduced into the modern-day alphabet.

3. Languages: I use five different languages to gather information for this Book:

English Hebrew Latin Koine Greek, and Aramaic (Jesus’ Language)

4. Subject matter may or may not be consistent with the authors own belief. I only present the facts and I try not to present my own beliefs (unless noted in text).

5. Due to subject matter having various cross-references, it may be necessary to repeat articles from my other Books. This eases the reader from obtaining a multitude of Books just to cover the specific subject in question.

6. I may have added some small prayers in between the Chapters.

The Final Confederacy of End-Time Babylon

Summary: Revelation 16 speaks of three powers that would work together to fight a war against God.   According to Revelation 16, end-time Babylon will be a three-part confederacy, under the leadership of the Pope. The three components are the Dragon, the Beast, and the False Prophet. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty (Revelation 16:13-14 emphasis added).

Ancient Babylon served as a symbol of end-time Babylon. Just like the warning to separate from ancient Babylon, so the warning will be repeated about end-time Babylon:

Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence. Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD’s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad (Jeremiah 51:6-7).

End-time Babylon cannot find its fulfillment in the ancient ruins of literal Babylon, even if the city were restored. Rather, Babylon represents the greater worldwide contempt for God that exists at the end of time. The components of Babylon will bind together in one final attempt at total world control and war against God’s Kingdom. The three components of Babylon represent Satan’s counterfeit system of worship and counterfeit trinity.

The Final Confederacy: End-Time Babylon's Components

Summary: What are the components of end-time Babylon on the prophecy of Revelation 16, and what powers do they symbolize?

As my previous article, “The Final Confederacy”, explains, Revelation 16:13-14 discusses end-time Babylon's three-part cohort that will fight against God and His people. This article will explain each of the three components, and what they symbolize.

Dragon

The Dragon is identified as Satan, and represents a hidden god, a counterfeit of God the Father. Satan has always wanted to usurp God’s power and position—to take the place of God. As the counterfeit God the Father, Satan now hopes to gain the allegiance of the world to overcome God’s kingdom.

His workings are disguised, and his power is made manifest through spiritualism in all its forms. In addition to the obvious manifestations of Satan through demons, spirits, and witchcraft, Satan also pulls people away from God to himself through the modern New Age movement, another form of spiritualism. This movement is one of the manifestations of the Dragon component.

Beast

The Beast represents the false son or counterfeit of Jesus Christ. It is Roman Catholicism, claiming to be the representative of Christ on Earth.

•    Just as Christ received a mortal wound at the cross, so the Beast received a mortal wound but lived. •    Just as Christ was raised from the dead, so the mortal wound of the Beast was healed. •    Just as Christ is to receive all homage, so the whole world will wonder after the Beast (the Papacy), and pay it homage. •    Just as at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, so the Papacy today demands acknowledgement of its supremacy.

False Prophet

The final component of Babylon is the False Prophet, which counterfeits the Holy Spirit. The best-known experience of the Holy Spirit in the

Page 12: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

12

Bible was Pentecost, when tongues of fire came down upon the disciples, filling them with the Holy Spirit, and empowering them to speak in tongues so they could spread the Gospel. The counterfeit holy spirit has a similar manifestation.

We have learned from previous articles that the second beast of Revelation 13, America, will compel the world to worship the first beast, papal Rome, whose deadly wound was healed. America will play an important role in establishing the Papacy ’s status as spiritual leader, and will comprise a part of the end-time Babylonian confederacy.

In Protestant America, we see manifestations of tongues and healings that aren’t being used for spreading the Gospel but are a counterfeit. These experiences are full of emotionalism and euphoria, but don’t actually glorify God.

Also known as Pentecostalism, these great miracles, signs, and wonders are the False Prophet ’s way of unifying denominations under false doctrine.

When Christ prayed for unity within His Church, He never meant unity through compromise, but always unity in truth. The Protestant churches who join themselves to Rome by accepting papal supremacy become part of Babylon and thus form this third component of end- time Babylon , the False Prophet.

What Is   Babylon?

Babylon was once a great and feared kingdom. Today, its capital city is

Page 13: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

13

a heap of dried bricks and stones in Iraq. What does it represent in the future?

Babylon, past and future, is a significant theme in the Bible.

Babel (Hebrew), or Babylon (Greek), was one of the cities of an ancient kingdom established by Nimrod early in mankind’s history (Genesis 10:10). It is considered by some to be the place where life began and was the site where humans attempted to build a tower that would extend up to heaven (Genesis 11:1-4).

Seeing what humans were trying to do, God confused their language so they could not complete the tower they had begun. “Babel” means confusion and was a fitting name for this city whose residents were not obeying God. This same city became the epitome of all idolatrous worship and the capital city of an empire with its name.

Some 1,500 years after its founding, God spoke of Babylon through the prophet Isaiah, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen! And all the carved images of her gods He has broken to the ground” (Isaiah 21:9).

Page 14: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

14

The kingdom of Babylon would continue for another 200 years beyond the life of Isaiah until 539 B.C. The city would continue to be inhabited up until the Islamic invasions around A.D. 650.

The prophecy of Isaiah had a dual meaning. It not only referred to ancient Babylon, but also to a second Babylon, the Babylon of the book of Revelation (Revelation 14:8; Revelation 18:2).

Another Babylon

When students of the Bible come to the book of Revelation, they find a Babylon much different from the one described in the Old Testament. In addition to being a great kingdom like the Babylon of the Old Testament, this Babylon is described as a woman who sits on a beast.

Recording the vision he had seen, John wrote: “So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. … And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” (Revelation 17:3, 5).

To understand this Babylon, we must first understand the symbolic language being used in the book of Revelation. What is represented by a “woman,” a “beast,” “seven heads and ten horns,” and “Babylon the Great”? There have been different ideas and opinions about this Babylon, in large part because men have read their own interpretations into these symbols. This usually results in false conclusions.

The Bible interprets its symbols

It is important to understand that when the Bible uses symbolic language, the Bible interprets its symbols for us. We do not have to guess at the meaning. For example, when a woman is used symbolically in Scripture, she represents a church—a group of people. Paul uses the symbol of “a chaste virgin” for the Church that will be presented to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2), and Christ refers to His bride in Revelation as a wife or woman (Revelation 19:7).

Page 15: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

15

The woman in Revelation 17 is a church, but not the Church that was established by Jesus Christ. Notice what this church does to those who obey God and follow Jesus Christ: “And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement” (Revelation 17:6). This woman, called Babylon the Great, is an apostate church that has been responsible for the martyrdom of many true followers of Jesus Christ.

The Bible identifies this woman in the last verse of chapter 17, “And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth” (verse 18). At the time John wrote this verse, and in the centuries that followed, the city that reigned over the kings of the earth was Rome. And the church associated with Rome is the Roman Catholic Church, which is headquartered in Vatican City in Rome.

The Adam Clarke Commentary adds this statement, “It has already been shown that the woman sitting upon the seven-headed beast is a representation of the Latin [meaning Roman] Church; here we have the greatest assurance that it is so, because the woman is called a city, which is a much plainer emblem of a Church, as the word is used unequivocally in this sense in so many parts of Scripture that we cannot well mistake its meaning” (notes on Revelation 17:18).

Who are the beasts?

The Bible says the woman rides or sits on a scarlet beast (Revelation 17:3). This beast is described in Revelation 13:2 as being “like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon [Satan, Revelation 12:9] gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.”

This scarlet beast is not a description of a church. Instead, it represents the civil government of the Roman Empire.

This beast was “mortally wounded,” but later this “deadly wound was healed” (verses 3-4). Historically, the Roman Empire was overrun and came to an end in A.D. 476. Ten horns (Revelation 13:1) representing

Page 16: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

16

restorations of this empire were predicted to occur. The first revivals included the Vandals (429-533), the Heruli (476-493) and the Ostrogoths (493-554).

The next revival was the “Imperial Restoration” in 554 when Justinian, emperor of Byzantium, the Eastern Roman Empire, restored the western provinces to his domain. Through succeeding restorations, Catholic popes conferred the title of Holy Roman Emperor to Charlemagne (800), Otto the Great (962), Charles the Great (1520) and Napoleon (1805). The most recent revival was the German-Italian alliance (under Hitler and Mussolini), which tried to unite Europe by force in the 1930s and 1940s. Adolf Hitler considered Nazi Germany an extension of past German-dominated revivals of the Holy Roman Empire, while Benito Mussolini saw himself as a modern “Caesar” over a revived Roman Empire.

How did the revived Roman Empire receive the title of “holy”? We are told in Revelation 13:11-12 about a second beast. “Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.”

This beast is the woman (church), Babylon the Great, that appears as a lamb like Christ, but actually speaks “like a dragon”—Satan. This beast, through its head, the pope, crowned the various heads of state as emperors of the “holy” Roman Empire.

Two beasts prophesied by Daniel

The book of Revelation is not the beginning of the prophecy of this union of church and state. The prophecy begins in the seventh chapter of Daniel. The first six verses of Daniel 7 recount the dream Daniel was given, symbolizing the first three great empires of the ancient world. Babylon was represented by a lion; Persia, by a bear; and Greece, by a leopard.

Page 17: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

17

In verse 7, Daniel continues: “After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.”

History has shown that the fourth great kingdom, which had “iron teeth,” was the Roman Empire. (Compare this with Nebuchadnezzar’s dream in Daniel 2:40.)

Daniel then wrote: “I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them. … And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words” (verse 8). This little horn accompanies the beast and its 10 kings that “arise from this kingdom” (verse 24).

This little horn is described as “making war against the saints, and prevailing against them” (verse 21). This is what the woman called Babylon the Great will do to true Christians (Revelation 17:6).

The “little horn” of Daniel 7, the second beast of Revelation 13, and the woman of Revelation 17 are all describing the same New Testament Babylon, which is the Roman Catholic Church.

Future actions of Babylon the Great

So far, we have looked briefly at the prophecies of Babylon that have taken place over the last 2,000 years and at what it will do in the future. But what else does the Bible say about the future of this apostate church that is called Babylon the Great?

Jesus, speaking of events before His return, said, “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be” (Matthew 24:21). He followed this by saying there would be strong religious deception so as “to deceive, if possible, even the elect” (verses 23-24).

Page 18: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

18

The apostle Paul explained how this deception would come about in writing to the church at Thessalonica. He wrote, “Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4). The popes have claimed the title “vicar of Christ,” which means “to stand in the place of Jesus Christ.”

The Adam Clarke Commentary describes this “man of sin” in verse 4 as “having the highest place and authority in the Christian Church, he acts as God—taking upon himself God’s titles and attributes, and arrogating to himself the authority that belongs to the Most High” (note on 2 Thessalonians 2:4). God reveals that prior to the return of Jesus Christ many will be deceived by this coming individual and the false religious system that is behind him.

Babylon the Great with its entire system centered in Rome and the final pope who is called a false prophet (Revelation 19:20) will come to a sudden end when Jesus Christ returns.

Revelation 18 says in “one day” and “in one hour” “that great city” will come to an end (verses 2, 8, 10, 17, 19, 21). It also reveals that God will hold Babylon responsible for having martyred the true servants of Jesus Christ (verses 20, 24).

God has decreed harsh judgment on Babylon the Great because of her rebellion against God and her cruel treatment of God’s people. As Albert Barnes explains, “The idea is that of utter desolation; and the meaning here is, that spiritual Babylon—papal Rome will be reduced to a state of utter desolation resembling that of the real Babylon” (Notes on the Bible, Revelation 18:2).

A final warning

The end of Babylon comes with a warning to all believers to act before it is too late. “And I heard another voice from heaven saying, ‘Come out of

Page 19: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

19

her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues’” (Revelation 18:4).

May we all heed this warning so we will not share in the sins of modern Babylon or receive her plagues. For additional study on the false religious leader prophesied to appear at the end of this age, read our article “Antichrist.”

The Fall Of   Babylon

The Babylonian Empire fell more than 2,500 years ago. Yet the Bible predicts that “Babylon the Great” will fall before Christ returns. How does the Bible explain the fall of two Babylons?

Small parts of the ruins of ancient Babylon have been excavated and reconstructed. But what do the biblical predictions of the fall of an end-time “Babylon the Great” mean?

In October of 539 B.C. the ancient empire of Babylon came to an end. The history of this Chaldean kingdom goes back to 2300 B.C. and the Tower of Babel in the book of Genesis (Genesis 11:1-9). It is most remembered for its greatness during what was called the Neo-Babylonian Empire (626-539 B.C.) under its most famous king, Nebuchadnezzar II (634-562 B.C.).

The Bible records that King Nebuchadnezzar had a very troubling dream in his second year (around 603 B.C.), not long after the first Jewish

Page 22: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

22

captives came to Babylon. God gave the interpretation of the dream to a young Jewish captive and prophet named Daniel who, in turn, explained it to the king. Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar, “You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory; … you are this head of gold [seen in the dream]” (Daniel 2:37-38).

As a result of the interpretation, Daniel was highly respected and had considerable influence with King Nebuchadnezzar. Three times the king would recognize the God of Daniel as God (Daniel 2:47; 3:29; 4:34).

It was King Nebuchadnezzar II who built the magnificent hanging gardens, the incredible double walls 15 miles square around the city, the beautiful Ishtar Gate, and the many monuments of splendor that marked the zenith of Babylon’s history. The fall of the Babylonian Empire came more than 20 years after his death, but its fall was prophesied more than two centuries before his birth.

Babylon prophesied to fall

More than two centuries before the fall of Babylon, God inspired the prophet Isaiah to write, “And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It will never be inhabited, nor will it be settled from generation to generation” (Isaiah 13:19-20).

This prophecy would not be fulfilled until God had first sent His people, Judah, into national captivity by the hand of King Nebuchadnezzar II. The fall of Babylon came as the kingdom of Judah’s prophesied 70 years of national captivity was ending (Jeremiah 25:11-12).

It was through the prophet Isaiah that God prophesied in advance that the people of Media, the Medes, would take the city of Babylon (Isaiah 13:17; 21:2). It was announced two centuries before the fall of Babylon that “Babylon is fallen, is fallen! And all the carved images of her gods He has broken to the ground” (Isaiah 21:9).

Another remarkable prophecy

Page 23: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

23

Another amazing prophecy not only speaks of the fall of Babylon, but actually gives the name of the king, Cyrus, who would conquer Babylon—150 years before his birth. It was further prophesied that after conquering Babylon, King Cyrus the Great—who was the head of the Medo-Persian Empire—would give a decree allowing the captive Jews to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple (Ezra 1:1-4). In speaking through the prophet Isaiah, God said, “Who says of Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd, and he shall perform all My pleasure, saying to Jerusalem, “You shall be built,” and to the temple, “Your foundation shall be laid”’” (Isaiah 44:28).

It continues in chapter 45:1, “Thus says the LORD to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held—to subdue nations before him and loose the armor of kings, to open before him the double doors [of Babylon], so that the gates will not be shut.” God continues to emphasize that He has called Cyrus by his name to show that “there is no God besides Me” (Isaiah 45:3-5). The fall of the Babylonian Empire to King Cyrus the Great of the Medo-Persian Empire is described in the fifth chapter of Daniel.

The handwriting on the wall

In October of 539 B.C. King Belshazzar, who was coregent with his father, King Nabonidus, began a celebration to the Babylonian gods by desecrating the gold and silver vessels taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem by King Nebuchadnezzar in 586 B.C. (Daniel 5:1-4). Within the same hour, the appearance of a man’s hand miraculously began to write on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace, causing Belshazzar to have great fear and concern.

Daniel was summoned to explain what it meant. He gave God’s interpretation of the handwriting on the wall to King Belshazzar. The message from God was that Belshazzar’s kingdom was “numbered … and finished” (Daniel 5:26). That very night Belshazzar was slain and the city of Babylon was taken by Darius the Mede (Daniel 5:30-31).

Some critics have questioned who Darius the Mede was because his name is not found in historical records, but we believe the account in the

24

book of Daniel is historically correct and that it is attested to being correct by Jesus Christ (Matthew 24:15).

The Greek historian Herodotus provides more information as to how Babylon fell that night. He records that the Babylonians had initially prepared for Cyrus’ attack by accumulating provisions in the city. According to Herodotus’ account, the siege dragged on indecisively, until Cyrus or one of his advisers devised a plan to divert the water in the river into an excavated lake, thus reducing the depth of the water so that it was fordable.

The Persian army then entered the river, whose waters were now no more than thigh-deep, and invaded the complacent and unprepared city. “There was a festival going on, and they continued to dance and enjoy themselves, until they learned the news the hard way” (Herodotus, Histories, 1:191).

The accounts of Daniel 5 and Herodotus explain how the two prophecies in Isaiah were fulfilled in the fall of Babylon. Not only did the Medes enter the city (Isaiah 13:17-19; 21:2, 9), but they did it under the rule of Cyrus the Great, a Persian who was the overall conquering king of the Medo-Persian Empire (Isaiah 45:1-6).

Though the city of Babylon fell that night, it would continue to thrive under the Persians, Greeks and Seleucids. But by the time of the Parthians in A.D. 141 it was abandoned (Joshua J. Mark, Ancient History Encyclopedia website). With the coming of the Muslim invasions around A.D. 650, Babylon was becoming buried under the desert sands.

This fulfilled God’s word through Isaiah: “And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It will never be inhabited, nor will it be settled from generation to generation” (Isaiah 13:19-20).

A second Babylon is prophesied by Jesus Christ

This future Babylon will be both religious and political. The woman represents a false church that will control a revival of the Roman Empire, which will for a short time be an economic superpower. In the book of Revelation Jesus Christ reveals to the apostle John a woman called “Babylon the Great,” who rides on a beast and is also a “great city which reigns over the kings of the earth” (Revelation 17:5-7, 18). This future Babylon will be both religious and political. The woman represents a false church that will control a revival of the Roman Empire, which will for a short time be an economic superpower.

For more information about this woman, the beast she rides and the city that “reigns over the kings of the earth,” please read our articles “Mystery, Babylon the Great” and “Who Is the Beast?”

The 18th chapter of Revelation first gives a warning to believers and then goes on to describe how this second Babylon will fall. The warning says, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues” (Revelation 18:4). Jesus Christ, through the apostle John, warns millions of deceived people who have become a part of this religious system to come out of her before she receives her punishment.

The church that will lead this second Babylon has a long history and is responsible for the martyrdom of apostles, prophets and saints (Revelation 18:20, 24). The name Babylon is not its actual name. The name symbolizes the confusion of this system in contrast to what Jesus Christ taught and established in His Church.

The second Babylon will come to a sudden end

The 18th chapter of Revelation describes the end of this second Babylon at the second coming of Christ. Jesus, through the pen of the apostle John, says, “Therefore her plagues will come in one day—death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her” (Revelation 18:8).

Not only will it be destroyed in one day, but three times it says it will be destroyed in “one hour” of one day (Revelation 18:10, 17, 19). The fiery

26

end to the second Babylon in one hour of one day leaves very little doubt as to how sudden her destruction will be.

The book of Revelation is also clear in revealing that Isaiah’s prophecy—“Babylon is fallen, is fallen”—was speaking of both the fall of ancient Babylon and the fall of a second Babylon at the end of this age (Isaiah 21:9; Revelation 14:8; 18:2). In the case of both Babylons, God has declared “the end from the beginning” (Isaiah 46:10).

What does it mean to you?

Similar to ancient Babylon, the Babylon at the end of this present age will also espouse false religion. There is a warning to believers in Isaiah and Revelation. The message in the detailed prophecies of both Babylons is that man must come out of false religion and worship only God in “spirit and truth” (John 4:24).

May we all understand and heed God’s warning.

The Judgment Of God Upon Babylon

Revelation 18:3-10

You are sharing with us on the radio the services of the First Baptist Church in Dallas.  This is the pastor bringing the early morning message entitled The Fall of Babylon, The Judgment of God upon Babylon, The Call to Come out of Babylon.  In our preaching through the Bible after these many years, we have come to the Revelation; in our preaching through the Revelation, we have come to chapter 18.  We are rapidly approaching the climactic consummation of this age.

In chapter 19, the Lord Christ comes from heaven [Revelation 19:11-16].  In chapter 20, Satan is bound with a chain, and the millennium is introduced to this war weary earth [Revelation 20:1-7].  And in chapters 21 and 22 is the great final new heaven and new earth [Revelation 21:1-22:21].  Chapter 18 is a part of chapter 17 [Revelation 17:17-18:24].  Ordinarily, at the end of chapter 16, we would have expected the return, the appearance of our Lord, for the last and the seventh bowl of the judgment of the wrath of God has been poured out upon the earth [Revelation 16:17-21].

But before chapter 19 and the return of the Lord in power, and victory, and glory from heaven [Revelation 19:11-16] which would ordinarily have followed immediately after chapter 16 [Revelation 16:17-21], there is a parenthesis, an interval; and one of the angels of the seven vials, of the seven bowls of the wrath and judgment of God, takes John and shows him the judgment of mystery Babylon, called "the great whore" [Revelation 17:1], and the judgment of God upon the city of Babylon, which is described in the next chapter, our chapter today,

Page 28: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

28

chapter [18] [Revelation 18:2-10].  Then after this intermission, when the angel reveals to the seer the judgment of God and the destiny of mystery Babylon and the city Babylon, then comes the denouement of the age, and the intervention of God in human history, the appearance of our glorious God and Savior, Jesus Christ [Revelation 19:11-21].

Now, in these two chapters, chapters 17 and 18, there is revealed to the apostle the judgment of God upon mystery Babylon, which is chapter 17.  Mystery Babylon is an ecclesiastical system.  It is called "the scarlet woman" [Revelation 17:4], or "the great whore" [Revelation 17:1].  And her destruction is encompassed by the political leader of the earth and the kingdoms who have willingly yielded their sovereignty unto him [Revelation 17:12].  She is destroyed, ecclesiastical Babylon, mystery Babylon, religious Babylon is destroyed by the political governments of this world [Revelation 17:12].

The city Babylon is an altogether different kind of an institution.  City Babylon is described for us here in chapter 18 [Revelation 18:1-24].  There is no mention in chapter 18 of the beast of the political Antichrist, the final ultimate tyrannical ruler of the earth.  There is no mention of the ten kings, the kingdoms of the earth, who turned in hate and destruction, destroyed the scarlet woman.  But the city Babylon is destroyed by the Lord God Himself [Revelation 18:8, 20].

Twice we have had the announcement of the destruction of the city Babylon.  In the fourteenth chapter of the book and the eighth verse there is announced the destruction of Babylon: Epesen!  Epesen!  "Babylon is fallen, is fallen!" that great city [Revelation14:8].  Then, in the sixteenth chapter and the nineteenth verse, there is again that same great announcement of the fall of Babylon, whose sins have come to remembrance before God.  Then in our chapter, the second verse, "He cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, "Epesen!  Epesen!" [Revelation 18:2].  Same word; it’s an aorist verb, it doesn’t continue over a long period of time.  But the destruction of Babylon is sudden.  It

Page 29: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

29

is complete.  It is one great, mighty event; the intervention and the judgment of Almighty God [Revelation 18:8, 20].

That city Babylon is mentioned more than two hundred sixty times in the Scriptures.  For example, in chapters fifty and fifty-one of Jeremiah, Babylon is named thirty-seven times in those two chapters alone [Jeremiah 50-51].  There is more reference to the city of Babylon than to any other city in the Holy Bible except Jerusalem itself.  Babylon was the city of Nebuchadnezzar, who wasted Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed Solomon’s temple [2 chronicles 36:17-21].  Babylon was the great city to which Judea was carried in captivity [2 chronicles 36:20].  "By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion" [Psalm 137:1].

Babylon was established by Nimrod, who was the grandson of Ham [Genesis 10:6-8]; and he named the city Babel [Genesis 10:9-10], the tower by which a man sought in his own works to reach up to God in heaven, Babel, Babylon [Genesis 11:4].  It is the great city on the plain of Shinar [Genesis 11:2], built on the Euphrates River at the head of the Persian Gulf.  Babylon in prophecy represents so much that is unfulfilled.

For example, in the prophecy of Zechariah, chapter 5, beginning at verse 5 and reading to the end of the chapter; now Zechariah is a prophet beyond the captivity; and he sees in this vision in the fifth chapter of his book, he sees an ephah.  An ephah was the largest dry measure used by the Jewish people.  It held about a bushel.  He saw an ephah.  And an angel lifted up a talent of lead that covered the ephah; and the prophet saw on the inside of the ephah a woman sitting.  And the angel explains that this woman is wickedness [Zechariah 5:5-8].

Then the prophet sees two women with the wind in their wings, with the wings of storks; and they lift up the ephah between the earth and the sky, and that woman called Wickedness, seated in it, and the prophet says, "Whither do these bear the ephah?"  And the angel replies, "To build it a house in the land of Shinar:  and it shall be established,

Page 30: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

30

and set there upon her own base" [Zechariah 5:9-11], in Babylon, this great ephah, which of course is a symbol of commerce, and on the inside of it the ungodliness of a depraved, God-scorning, contemptuous generation.

So when we turn to the eighteenth chapter of the Book of the Revelation, there is this prophecy concerning Babylon, filled with the violence and wickedness of the world.  What does it represent, Babylon?

After these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lighted with his glory.

And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great city epesen, is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of demons, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

[Revelation 18:1-2]

What is this city Babylon and what does it represent?  There are three suggestions.

One:  there are many of our fine scholars who believe that the city of Babylon will be rebuilt on the plain of Shinar, on the Euphrates River, at the head of the Persian Gulf, and will again be the center of the great commercial activity of this earth.  These scholars say that the last great vast irrigation possibility in the earth lies in the Mesopotamian Valley, damming up the Euphrates and the Tigris Rivers.  And they point out that the great city located there would be where the continents meet.  When Asia develops, when India, and China, and Indonesia, and Malaysia come to their own, and when Africa develops, then with Europe to the north, with Asia to the east, with Africa to the west, and with Australia to the south, and with the Americas beyond, the great city Babylon will then be the center of the political and cultural and

Page 31: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

31

commercial world.  So there are those who say this refers to the rebuilding of that great final city in the Mesopotamian Valley.

Then there are those who say that Babylon represents the commercial, cultural, political life of this world, which is here depicted in a symbolical great city.

Then there are those who say that Babylon represents the political and commercial life of this wicked world in that final and ultimate day, which is here embodied in one great city called Babylon.

Now as I study and as I read, all three of those explanations are possible.  It can mean one of them.  It can mean two of them.  It can mean all three of them.  But whether it is a rebuilt vast city at the heart and the center of the commerce and culture and political life of this world, or whether it represents the vast worldliness embodied in a commercial city like a great modern city that we’d name today, or whether it represents that ultimate and final type of civilization at the end time, which in wickedness cries unto God and is destroyed in symbol in the great city Babylon [Revelation 18:8, 18-19], whether it’s one or the other, the principle of God and the judgment of God is just the same.

Now I want you to notice, as we look in these two chapters, the difference between the judgment of Babylon city [Revelation 18: 8, 18-19] and the judgment of Babylon mystery, called "the great whore" [Revelation 17:1, 16].  In the destruction of the ecclesiastical system, there was hatred and contempt for the system on the part of the governments of the world.  They were weary of her ignorant superstitions.  They were weary of her financial support.  They were weary of her political meddling.  She rides the beast [Revelation 17:3].  They are tired of everything about her.

And the Bible says, "And the nations hated the whore, and they smote her and destroyed her, and burned her with fire, and confiscated all of her riches and her great wealth" [Revelation 17:16].  And there

Page 32: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

32

was gladness in the earth at the destruction of that ecclesiastical system; all of it done by the hands of man.  When you turn to the eighteenth chapter and read of the destruction of the great city, there is no such thing.  It is exactly opposite.  In the destruction of this city, which is done by the intervention of God [Revelation 18:5], there is wailing among the kingdoms of the world, there is lament among the merchant men of the earth, there is crying and lamentation on the part of the seamen of the earth [Revelation 18:15-19], there is only rejoicing in the destruction of this vast and wicked city by the saints of God in heaven and by the angelic hosts in glory [Revelation 18:20].

Could I parenthesize to say here, I don’t know of a truer reflection of the spirit of the world than you find right in the depiction of the destruction of the city of Babylon.  For example, if the announcement were made from this pulpit now, "Within thirty minutes, within thirty minutes, Christ will appear as the lightning splits the bosom of the sky, and the livid, flaming, glorious presence of our Lord will be seen in thirty minutes," you’d find that same division:  God’s sainted children would rejoice, "O glory, O God, O heaven, O ye saints":

O joy! O delight! should we go without dying,

No sickness, no sadness, no dread, and no crying.

Caught up through the clouds with our Lord into glory,

When Jesus receives "His own."

["Christ Returneth"; H. L. Turner]

That would be the reaction of the people of God.  But who would in terror, and in lamentation, and in weeping and wailing hear that glorious announcement?  Those whose lives are enmeshed in this world.

Page 33: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

33

"What about my bonds?  What about my stocks?  What about my bank deposits?  What about my accumulations?  What about my mortgages and my deeds?"  And O God, what about the sins unforgiven of my life?  Just as it is here; just as it is here, Babylon, the enmeshing of the spirit of man in this world; well, that was a parenthesis, let’s go on.

Why is it God is judging Babylon?  All right, look at it.  Turn to the eighteenth chapter of the Book of the Revelation and let us read.  Number one why:  in verse 5, "For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities" [Revelation 18:5].  That’s the first reason.  Just as in the tower of Babel, they started at the base and heaped up those brick up, and up, and up, and up [Genesis 11:3-4], God uses that same symbolism:  "And the sins of Babylon heaped up, and up, and up, and up, and up until they reached the sky" [Revelation 18:5]; one reason.

All right, second reason:  in the seventh verse, "How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously . . . for she saith, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.  How much she glorifies herself" [Revelation 18:7].  She is arrogant.  She is falsely sophisticated.  She lives deliciously, and she says, "I sit a queen, and I shall never know sorrow; I shall never be a widow" [Revelation 18:7].

And in her arrogance she looks contemptuously on the idea of religion and the name of God; and she makes fun of [the] sacred Holy Book, and she scorns Christ, and she despises the things of heaven.  And in her arrogance, and in her pride, she says, "We shall bury all of the religions, and all of the apostles, and all of the evangelists, and all of the missionaries of the earth."  And she lifts herself up in atheism, and in godlessness, and in depravity, and in blasphemy.  You know anything like that going on right now?  Just exactly as God describes here in the Book.

All right, a third thing about her:  ah, this Babylon!  There are twenty-eight different articles named here in her merchandising, in verses 12 through 13, and it starts with the merchandise of gold, and it

Page 34: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

34

ends with the souls of men [Revelation 18:12-13].  What does that mean?  A very plain and a simple thing that we are introduced to today, and that grows apace in this earth; there is a philosophy in this world – and it is bitter – there is a philosophy in this world that a man is nothing.  There’s not any God.  There’s not any immortality.  There’s not any soul.  There’s not any judgment of the Almighty.  There’s not any Holy Bible.  There’s not any Christ.  There’s not any Holy Spirit.

And they take men, and they take nations, and they use them like a man would use freight, like a man would use stuff, like a man would use rock, like a man would use gravel.  They torture people.  They starve people.  They ship them off into exile.  They use every means of lying, of depravity.  They use every instrument of negation and unholy warfare to accomplish their secular and godless purposes.  And you and I have lived to see the day when most of the populations of this earth have come under that godless philosophy; just like you see it here in the Bible.

Why, you’d say, "It couldn’t be possible.  This is an enlightened age.  This is a day when men are taught.  This is a day of scientific advance."  Just like God’s Book says, there is no such a thing as godliness apart from God.  There’s no such a thing as being of worth apart from the teaching of religion and the faith of Jesus Christ.  And this system here destroys men’s souls and traffics in the lives of humanity, just like you would traffic in the freight of the world.

Now I want to pause again, here.  I’m not going to get through this sermon, so we just forget about finishing.  I’m going to pause again and give you an illustration of that.  Practically all of you are old enough here to remember the Korean War.  You children, the thing was fought in the last decade, you can’t remember World War 1, certainly, and you don’t remember World War II, but you remember the Korean War.

Do you remember how that Korean War was fought?  That war was fought by hundreds, and hundreds, and hundreds of thousands of Chinese men, soldiers.  They call them "volunteers," who were fed into

Page 35: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

35

the maw of our cannon, fed, fed, fed, until the cannon refused to shoot any longer.  It was so hot it had burned up.  But the wave, upon wave, upon wave, upon wave of those endless Chinese soldiers who were fed into the muzzle of those machine guns, of those blazing cannons, of those bombs dropped from the air, until finally the embankments, and the trenches, and the placements, and the bulwarks of our soldiers were overrun by the hordes of humanity that they fed into that attack.  Now let’s take the other side of it.

Suppose that just one of those American airmen, just one, suppose just one of those American airmen on his way over was lost in the vast expanse of the Pacific.  You know what’d happen?  All of the resources of the Army, all of the resources of the Navy, all of the resources of the Air Force, all the resources of the Marine Corps, all of the resources at the hand of the government of the United States of America would be combing and sweeping the vast illimitable wastes to see if they could find that one lost airman.

Where’d you learn that?  That a man was worth something?  Where were you taught that?  That one somebody amounted to something?  My brother, you learned that in the religion of the one lost sheep [Luke 15:3-7], and the one lost coin [Luke 15:8-10], and the one lost boy [Luke 15:11-32].  That’s where you got that.  That a man is worth something, that he’s of value, just one man, you learned that because you were taught that Jesus died for that soul [1 Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 10:5-14].

See the opposite?  Slay them by the thousands; let them starve by the millions.  As one of their leaders said, as Lenin said, "What would it matter if two-thirds of this world were destroyed, if the one-third that survived was communist?"  That’s it, trafficking in the souls of men [Revelation 18:13].  That’s Babylon.

Now, why is God judging her?  "Her sins have come up to heaven" [Revelation 18:5]; second, because of her blasphemous arrogance [Revelation 18:7]; third, because of her trafficking in the souls of men

Page 36: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

36

[Revelation 18:13]; and fourth, "And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth" [Revelation 18:24], when a prophet of God stood up to denounce the ungodliness, cut off, cut down, blood poured out, tortured and tormented, God’s people.

Now what is this judgment of God upon Babylon?  First:  as this angel came from heaven, the earth was lightened with his glory, and in the light of that glorious presence of God, Babylon looked so cheap and so tawdry.  It was a city filled with demons.  It was a prison, called here a "hold" of every foul spirit, and a cage, a prison, of every unclean and hateful bird.  Under the searching light of the glorious presence of God, the city was filled with every foul, and dirty, and spiteful, and lying spirit; the judgment of God [Revelation 18:1-2].

Second:  how does God judge her?  "For in one hour is thy judgment come, in mia hōra [Revelation 18:10], and that’s repeated throughout this chapter, in mia hōra.  Now I want you to notice here, you couldn’t destroy the scarlet whore in one hour.  It would take time to root out that system.  But the judgment of God upon Babylon comes in one hour [Revelation 18:10]; that sounds like an atomic bomb, doesn’t it?  Just like that; epesen!  epesen!   in one great intervention from God.

All right, I want you to look again:  "And a mighty angel took up a stone like a millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down" [Revelation 18:21].  Now that is a summation of Jeremiah 51:60-64; and I meant to go into that, and we don’t have time.  And then this last one:  the judgment of God upon Babylon, "And there shall be found in it no more, "ou me"; no, no, no more at all," and then there are six things listed there [Revelation 18:21-23].  These "no more’s," one right after another, sound like a funeral dirge, like a funeral knell.  Then the call of God to come out,  "And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, My people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues [Revelation 18:4].  Come out of her, My people, come out,"Be

Page 37: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

37

not ye unequally yoked together" [2 Corinthians 6:14] . . .  "Come out of them, and I will be to you a Father, you will be to Me a son" [2 Corinthians 6:17-18].  "Let us go outside the city, bearing His reproach" [Hebrews 13:13].  Now I conclude."

Satan’s going to be destroyed [Revelation 20:10].  And when a fellow links his life with Satan, it means destruction and damnation.  Sin’s going to be destroyed; death’s going to be destroyed [Revelation 20:14]; Babylon’s going to be destroyed [Revelation 18:21].  The worldliness and ungodliness of this generation is going to be destroyed, the judgment is God upon it [Revelation 20:11-15].  And if we link ourselves with it, when it falls, we fall too.

So the appeal of God: "Come out of her, My people, come out; come out.  Come out of the world.  Come out of the darkness.  Come out of the sin of arrogance and blasphemy and rejection; come out of her, my people" [Revelation 18:4].  O Lord that we might turn our faces from the city of destruction, to the heavenly city of God, and do it now; do it now.

We’re going to sing our song, and while we do, somebody this morning to give his heart to Jesus; somebody to put his life in the fellowship of the church, while we sing the song, and while we make appeal, would you come and stand by me?  "Here I am, preacher, I give you my hand; I give my heart to God."  Or, "This is my wife, and these are our children."  Or, a couple of us, "We’re both coming."  As the Spirit of Jesus shall lead in the way, make it now.  Make it now, while we stand and while we sing.

Mystery, Babylon The   Great

One of the most intriguing metaphors in the Bible is that of “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT.” What is it, who is it, and is there a warning message for us today?

The phrase “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT” appears only once in the Bible. It is in Revelation 17:5: “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”

Page 40: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

40

Who or what is this mystery that is written in all capital letters in many English Bibles in order to emphasize that this was a formal title or inscription? Does God’s Word reveal the answer?

The Greek word mysterion denotes “a divine mystery or allegory that is now revealed” (The Expositor’s Bible Commentary, Vol. 12, p. 556). The passage in Revelation 17 is thus a revealing of the mystery about this end-time entity that is also referred to in the book of Revelation as “great Babylon” (16:19) and “Babylon the great” (18:2).

A mistake that some have made is to read their own interpretation into the Scriptures, particularly when it comes to prophecy. The apostle Peter said, “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation” (2 Peter 1:20). This scripture makes a very important point; we must let the Bible explain itself and its symbols.

We must also remember the beginning verse of the book of Revelation, which states, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John” (1:1). This makes it plain that this is not John’s personal writing or opinion, but it is the revelation of Jesus Christ.

A fallen woman

Christ’s explanation of Babylon the great begins in Revelation 17:1: “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters.” This “great harlot” is about to receive her judgment from Jesus Christ for her many sins. She is also called “THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS” (verse 5), meaning that other harlots have come from her. The “waters” that the harlot sits on (mentioned in verse 1) are revealed in verse 15 to be “peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.”

Four times in chapter 17 this Babylon is called a harlot (verses 1, 5, 15, 16). Six times she is called a “woman” (verses 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 18).

A harlot or prostitute was used symbolically in the Bible to illustrate unfaithfulness to the Lord. For example, the people of Israel left the true worship of God to follow the false gods and religions of the peoples around them (Hosea 1:2, 6; 2:4-5; Jeremiah 3:8-10). However, by identifying this harlot with Babylon, Revelation shows that this time God is talking about gentiles, not Israel.

The symbolism of a “harlot” in Revelation thus represents a sinful and fallen woman in the eyes of Jesus Christ. She is portrayed as unfaithful to God and to His Word. This woman is in contrast to the woman described in Revelation 12, who is described as being faithful to God.

A faithful woman

In 2 Corinthians 11:2 Paul calls the Church at Corinth a “chaste virgin” that he has “betrothed to Christ.” In this verse Paul refers to the Church of God at Corinth as a pure and righteous woman who will become the bride of Christ.

The apostle John used a similar description in 2 John 1:1, where he used the term “elect [“chosen,” margin] lady” in reference to the Church. The term is used again in verse 5. In verse 13, the phrase “your elect sister” likely refers to a neighboring congregation. In these three verses John symbolically calls the Church of God an “elect” woman.

In Revelation 12:13-14 we see a righteous “woman” persecuted by Satan, but taken into a wilderness for protection at the time of the end. In verse 17 Satan goes to “make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” This woman is the Church that Jesus Christ built (Matthew 16:18).

All three of these scriptural examples picture as a woman the Church that Jesus began.

We see that the Bible uses a faithful woman to picture God’s Church and an immoral woman to picture disobedience to God, or a false church. In summary, we see that the Bible uses a faithful woman to picture God’s

Church and an immoral woman to picture disobedience to God, or a false church.

Mystery Babylon revealed

Now that we understand that the harlot of Revelation 17 represents a false church, let’s note what she does. Revelation 17:6 says, “I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus.” This describes religious persecution directed toward the saints of Jesus Christ.

The next verse says, “I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her.” This verse reveals that this woman rides on a political beast. This political beast is described in verses 8-17. It is also spoken of in Revelation 13:3-8 and Daniel 7:7-8, 19-25. This beast is the regenerated Roman Empire through its numerous revivals down through the ages that will end at the second coming of Jesus Christ. For further study of this political power, see “Who Is the Beast?”

Daniel 7:8 uses different symbolism to represent this false church. Daniel writes about a “little horn” that accompanies the fourth empire (the Roman Empire) described in Daniel’s vision. This “little horn” would “speak pompous words against the Most High, … [and] persecute the saints of the Most High” (verse 25). (More details about the connections between the symbolism of Daniel and Revelation are covered in our article “Daniel 7: Four Beasts and a Little Horn.”)

Considering all the biblical clues, many students of history and Bible prophecy have concluded this was the Roman Catholic Church, which led the Holy Roman Empire to bring great persecution and martyrdom on Christians who held to the teachings of Jesus and His apostles. Christians who continued to observe the seventh-day Sabbath and the festivals of God, such as Passove r , were seen to be in opposition to the changes made by the established church. This church labeled faithful Christians heretics because they refused to come under its authority and teachings, such as its adoption of pagan celebrations and customs like Sunday, Easter and Christmas.

In Revelation 17 we are given the location where Babylon the great is centered. “And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth” (verse 18, emphasis added). When John wrote this at the end of the first century, there was only one city on earth that reigned over the kings of the earth—and that was Rome. Of course, the Roman Catholic Church is inseparably connected with that great city of Rome. In contrast, the faithful woman in Revelation 12 did not reign over any kings on the earth, and it began in Jerusalem.

For further study of this false church, see the articles: “What Is Babylon?” and “Revelation 17.” For further study of God’s Church, see the articles in the section “The Church.”

Mother of harlots

Jesus Christ has revealed to John and to those who believe His word who and what “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT” is. Once Christ has identified this false church, it is not difficult to identify her daughters.

She is the mother of all those churches that have separated from her, but who continue to follow many of the false doctrines and practices that originated with her centuries ago (Revelation 17:5).

Abominations of the earth

“MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT” is not only called the “MOTHER OF HARLOTS.” The same verse also calls her the mother of “the abominations of the earth.” The previous verse says the woman has “in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication” (verse 4). Why does Jesus Christ use such strong language against this church?

The answer can be found in what Jesus said to the Pharisees, “For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15). This woman, “highly esteemed” in the eyes of many in this world, has become an “abomination in the sight of God” for perverting the truth of God.

44

Christ’s judgment on the woman

Jesus Christ tells John through His angel, “I will show you the judgment of the great harlot” (Revelation 17:1). The final judgment is revealed in the next chapter, which says, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit” (Revelation 18:2).

Interestingly, God inspired the prophet Isaiah to use similar language to describe the fall of the Babylonian Empire (Isaiah 21:9; 47:9). This civil government, which also forced people to practice false religious worship (Daniel 3:1-6), was a forerunner or type of the false religious power also called Babylon in Revelation 17-18.

When God’s judgment on Babylon the great—the powerful, false church—occurs during the end times, it will be swift. As the scriptures note, it will take place “in one day” (Revelation 18:8) and “in one hour” (verses 10, 17, 19) of that day. “Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore” (verse 21). It will be God’s vengeance for all His saints who were martyred by her over the centuries (verses 20, 24).

Judgment with a warning

Jesus Christ gives us all a warning in His judgment against this woman and the ungodly society that will exist at the time of the end. John writes, “And I heard another voice from heaven saying, ‘Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues’” (verse 4). This warning includes two important lessons for us.

First, we are to completely come out of all doctrines and practices that are not from God’s Word—the Bible. Christians must “contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). This means seeking to follow the doctrines and teachings of the faithful woman of Revelation 12.

Second, it should go without saying that Christians are not to return to the false doctrines and teachings of this false woman after they have come out of her. Christians have made this mistake of compromising

Page 45: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

45

and returning to false doctrines in the past, and the Bible indicates that some will make this mistake again in the future (Revelation 2-3). Christians cannot worship God “in spirit and truth” (John 4:24) by mixing in or returning to false doctrines.

Jesus Christ has revealed to the reader the mystery of who “BABYLON THE GREAT” is. She is no longer a mystery. Will you heed your Savior’s instruction to come out of her so you don’t receive the punishment destined to come upon her and all who follow her misguided teaching?

But before chapter 19 and the return of the Lord in power, and victory, and glory from heaven [Revelation 19:11-16] which would ordinarily have followed immediately after chapter 16 [Revelation

Page 46: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

46

16:17-21], there is a parenthesis, an interval; and one of the angels of the seven vials, of the seven bowls of the wrath and judgment of God, takes John and shows him the judgment of mystery Babylon, called "the great whore" [Revelation 17:1], and the judgment of God upon the city of Babylon, which is described in the next chapter, our chapter today, chapter [18] [Revelation 18:2-10].

Then, in the sixteenth chapter and the nineteenth verse, there is again that same great announcement of the fall of Babylon, whose sins have come to

Page 47: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

47

remembrance before God. It is complete.

Page 48: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

48

Then the prophet sees two women with the wind in their wings, with the wings of storks; and they lift up the ephah between the earth and the sky, and that woman called Wickedness, seated in it, and the prophet says, "Whither do these bear the ephah?"  And the angel replies, "To build it a house in the land of Shinar:  and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base" [Zechariah 5:9-11], in Babylon, this great ephah, which of course is a symbol of commerce, and on the inside of it the ungodliness of a depraved, God-scorning, contemptuous generation.

Page 49: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

49

When Asia develops, when India, and China, and Indonesia, and Malaysia come to their own, and when Africa develops, then with Europe to the north, with Asia to the east, with Africa to the west, and with Australia to the south, and with the Americas beyond, the great city Babylon will then be the center of the political and cultural and commercial world.

They were

Page 50: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

50

weary of her political meddling.  She rides the beast [Revelation 17:3].  They are tired of everything about her.

And the Bible says, "And the nations hated the whore, and they smote her and destroyed her, and burned her with fire, and confiscated all of her riches and her great wealth" [Revelation 17:16].  And there was gladness in the earth at the destruction of that ecclesiastical system; all of it done by the hands of man.

And in her arrogance, and in her pride, she says, "We shall bury all of the religions, and all of the apostles, and all of the evangelists, and all of the missionaries of the earth."  And she lifts herself up in atheism, and in

Page 52: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

52

godlessness, and in depravity, and in blasphemy.  You know anything like that going on right now?  Just exactly as God describes here in the Book.

All right, a third thing about her:  ah, this Babylon!  There are twenty-eight different articles named here in her merchandising, in verses 12 through 13, and it starts with the merchandise of gold, and it ends with the souls of men [Revelation 18:12-13].

Practically all of you are old enough

Page 53: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

53

here to remember the Korean War.

They call them "volunteers," who were fed into the maw of our cannon, fed, fed, fed, until the cannon refused to shoot any longer.

As one of their leaders said, as Lenin said, "What would it

Page 54: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

54

matter if two-thirds of this world were destroyed, if the one-third that survived was communist?"  That’s it, trafficking in the souls of men [Revelation 18:13].  That’s Babylon.

Now, why is God judging her?  "Her sins have come up to heaven" [Revelation 18:5]; second, because of her blasphemous arrogance [Revelation 18:7]; third, because of her trafficking in the souls of men [Revelation 18:13]; and fourth, "And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth" [Revelation 18:24], when a prophet of God stood up to denounce the ungodliness, cut off, cut down, blood poured out, tortured and tormented, God’s people.

And then this last one:  the judgment of God upon Babylon, "And there shall be found in it no more, "ou me"; no, no,

Page 55: stevesbooks.yolasite.com  · Web view8/18/2020  · This book is dedicated to Our Father in heaven, and to his son Jesus. Further, this manual is also dedicated to all who would

no more at all," and then there are six things listed there [Revelation 18:21-23]. Come out of her, My people, come out,"Be not ye unequally yoked together" [2 Corinthians 6:14] . .

64

As several Books are being updated simultaneously, their Estimated Date of Completion (EDC) is unknown.

If you would like a .PDF copy of any Book, please so state. All I will need your name, and E-mail address.

Reverend Whitters Has Only 1 Brain In Use (At Least Some Of The Time); 1 Father And Son In Heaven; 1 Holy Spirit; 8 Guardian Angels; And 1 Grand Master Editor: (Linda Meyers) - (Amanuensis), To Help Him Write, And To Keep His Solecisms To A Bare Minimum.

The Etymology Of Amanuensis

In Latin, the phrase “servus a manu” translates loosely as "slave with secretarial duties." (The noun “manu”, meaning "hand," gave us words such as manuscript, originally meaning a document written or typed by hand.) In the 17th century the second part of this phrase was borrowed into English to create amanuensis, a word for a person who is employed (willingly) to do the important but sometimes menial work of transcribing the words of another. While other quaint words, such as scribe or scrivener, might have similarly described the functions of such a person in the past, these days we’re likely to call him or her a secretary, or maybe an administrative assistant.

These books must NOT BE SOLD under any circumstance.

“Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:8.

(You have received without paying, so give without being paid).
