On 21 March 2019, Technology Park Ljubljana together with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and other partners organized the first VR / AR conference in Slovenia.

The conference was designed as a workshop and at the same time as a matching and pitching event. It was designed in the form of a full-day event with a focus on digitization and open innovation in conjunction with virtual / augmented reality.

It is estimated that revenues from VR / AR technologies will increase by 5x in the next 4 years and reach 120 billion Eur, therefore VR / AR technologies will be one of the main pillars in the field of digital transformation in the future, in addition to AI and I4.0.

At the event, special attention was paid also to the promotion of the Smart Space project, pilot actions and Smart Space HUB platform.

When and where did the pilot action take place? What was the agenda?

Write a short summary of the pilot actions. What are the learnings?

At the beginning of the conference, the participants were listened expert contributions, which were intended to present various XR technologies in connection with digital transformation and open innovation. Open innovation and digital transformation have to go hand in hand, because other knowledge and solutions too often remain behind the walls of companies.

This was followed by the opening of VR / AR living lab, in which companies will be able to test and implement pilots for their projects in the field of rapid potentiation, virtual and enriched reality, and visualization of promotional and business processes.

Within the pithing module, various SME companies presented good practices using XR technologies in connection with digitization and presented how it helps in servicing and internationalization.

At the end of the conference, a round table was followed, addressed by the challenge and the future of XR technologies. In the framework of the round table, we highlighted and confirmed that XR technology, in addition to AI and I4.0, will be one of the main pillars in the field of digital transformation by 2025.

Write a short summary of the pilot actions. What are the learnings?

At the workshop we reviewed the latest technical solutions in the field of digital transformation, rapid prototyping and also XR technologies presented at the London Tech Week 2019 and the Cannes XR Festival

In the form of a digital demonstration workshop, companies and participants present their already realized or pilot digital and XR projects in order to connect and exchange valuable experiences. At the event we also presented the possibility of participating in the SMARTSPACEHUB platform. The best projects will be included in SLO XR DEMO ROOM, the digital archive of Slovenian XR projects, which we created for the purpose of promoting Slovenian XR creators at home and abroad.

Companies have shown great enthusiasm over the type of event that brought together the digital workshop and networking events, as they can be directly discussed at the event with providers or other companies which in their production and planning processes are introducing digital transformation, or 3D and XR technologies.

Various indicators highlight the success of our action:- 25 organizations which showed interest in individual

support from the project. They found beneficial contribution in form of consulting in field of digital business models development, of XR and digital user experience and fast prototyping, 3D rendering and visualisations. The organizations receive support in the field, which supported their operations and development most.

- 5 SMEs who wished to be supported after the first meeting.- 3 of supported SMEs that have gone to meet the proposed

solution providers and have already invested in a solution.

The companies evaluated the coaching program as very good, and they were very interesting to assess the Smart Space platform as a supportive environment for internationalization and assistance in the digital transformation.

The companies gain lots of important new information, they adopted their strategy and upgrade their business models based on new knowledge and insights they get. Due to size of new technology and speed of development, companies also realized that they are competing with the world as also with the time and that they must truly accelerate their speed of innovation, processes and digitalization.

Write a short summary of the pilot actions. What are the learnings?

Most companies have problems understanding the digital transformation as a constant process in the company. They mostly want only a partial and quick solution, which of course is not satisfactory for the long-term. Realization for them now has become that they will have to put more energy also on the digital field in their company and to new technologies, as internal development as also following global trends and competition. This also apply in the manner of money investment and technology transfers.

That is why we helped companies with different experts to understand the importance of digital strategy to achieve a state of the art of existing technical solutions and with the introduction of new digital business models from the point of view of internationalization.

We also informed the companies about the advantages of the

Smart Space hub platform, as an aid to internationalization, and presented them the possibilities of a vouchers that are available by DIH Slovenia for the Digital Transformation Program.

This way, companies gain new know-how, awareness regarding speed of adoption and tools how to analyse, lead and KPI their digital transformation. With vouchers they gain also future support for their digital evolution of companies.
