Introduction:

Today’s Gospel talks about “accepting the cross”. This will mean something different to each of us – I wonder what it will mean to you.

Gospel Acclamation:

Halle Halle Halle – lujah - with CD Track 1

Gospel Reading:

Luke 12: 49-53

Reflection:

Sometimes the Holy Spirit is represented by flickering flames. Have you ever heard of this, or seen this represented somewhere?

Why does Jesus want to set the world alight?

He is talking about the Holy Spirit, and igniting that power in each of us.

What difference did the Holy Spirit make to the lives of the apostles?

He set their hearts and minds alight with faith and love, and gave them courage and strength to go out in the world and share the Good News by their words and actions.

Why did Jesus say that he would be the cause of division and argument among people?

Jesus new that he would be challenging people in what they think and believe. This still happens today.

Quiet reflection time

Writing our own prayers – give children a small piece of paper and textas – they can write their own prayer and when they are ready, can bring it forward to the Children’s Liturgy altar.

(Background Music – anything track 3 onwards on the CD)

Profession of Faith: (have the children repeat each line after you)

I Believe in God the Father

I Believe in Christ the Son

I Believe in the Holy Spirit

Our God is Three in One

I believe in the resurrection

That we will rise again

For I believe in Name of Jesus

Prayers of the Faithful:

Choose 3-4 children to say a prayer

Activity to take home: (see following page)

Return to Mass (hopefully during offertory, or after Prayers of the Faithful if not out in time!)

Print copies of the sheet below – children can take these, and a split pin to put it together, to complete at home.
