3 rd June 2020 Re: Teaching of Relationships and Sex Education Dear Parent, At Haywood Village Academy we follow the Jigsaw programme of study to teach our children about Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE). As part of Jigsaw we will be covering ‘Relationships and Sexual Health Education’ during this term’s topic ‘Changing me’. This aspect of PSHE is vital in your child’s health and wellbeing as well as their emotional development. Please find below a table showing what your child will be learning. You might want to take the opportunity to look at the distance learning and talk to your child before they access the blog. Puzzle piece Key learning My body I can be kind to my peers and grown-ups. I can make good friendships. I can start conversations with peers and adults. Respecting my body I can talk about my own needs and wants. I can talk about myself in a good way. I can talk about what I like doing and why. Growing up I can talk about things I have seen and done. I can show love and concern about people who are special to me. I am aware of my friends’ needs and feelings. Growth and Change I can talk to other children around me. I can share my experiences outside of school. I know when I am happy or sad. I can ask an adult for help. I can describe myself in positive terms and talk about my abilities. I can say how different feelings look in myself and friends. I can talk about transition to ‘big school’. Fun and Fears I can talk about what I am good at. I can talk about my worries. I can talk about what I am looking forward to. Celebration I can talk about special memories. I can share with friends about special things/memories. I can take pride in achievements I have made this year. All of the materials that will be used are available for you to browse through should you so wish. If this is something you would like to do, please contact your class teacher.

Under the 1993 Education Act and as per our policy, parents/carers can withdraw their child from all or part of the school’s Sex and Relationship Programme. That is with the exception of the parts that are statutory within the Science National Curriculum. If you wish to withdraw your child from this teaching, then please ask them not access this part of the blog.
