SAFP works on women’s access to livelihoods and resource and for persons affected with mental disorders and their families to co create a life with dignity.
SAFP has linked with stakeholders involved in mental health; researching secondary resources available in and outside the country; being part of and creating family support groups; being involved in various discourses on legislative changes within the country, improving understanding on the practical application of UN CRPD in India and last but not the least improve understanding on what do persons affected and their families want in terms of support and services.
To make a strategic difference, SAFP explore solutions in the area of supporting persons affected by mental disorders lead more productive lives with human dignity.
We work in 2 areas.
Prevention and finding ways to cope in community and neighborhood settings.
Create support services to the concerned individuals and their families.
Generate discourse on the concept of rehabilitation in mental illness.
In an attempt to reduce gender resource gap SAFP has engaged in training, research, advocacy in 6 states in India, with help of its CWLR members from 20 countries globally. SAFP activities collate learning to build knowledge by sharing it across the world. It works through its partnerships and membership of networks and forums i.e Consult for Women and Land Rights, Alliance on VAW, Food Water Security Coalition India, and national Alliance for Labor Rights
SAFP project SCAN (Safe care Aware Neighborhood) works on building relationships to end alienation to address rage and rape in Delhi. Work has begun in two area in Delhi.
SAFP web resource on mental health “HUM SATH” is active through Facebook. From virtual resource SAFP plan to set up a physical centre in Kerela to assist those who have recovered from mental health issues to integrate into the society such that they are performing their personal and community roles as well as living a productive life.

Making neighborhoods better BENEFITS OF ENGAGING COMMUNIT IES IN DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
Work on CSR Compliance with Government
obligation – 10% of all development space should
be allocated to marginalised / existing habitants.
Building Social Capital – Involving communities in
development decisions ensures buy-in dignity
and security through SCAN program.
Asking for workers centres for availability of low-
skill labor for community and paid services
Working women and youth to manage green
spaces, community care amenities, kiosk
services, cleaning and cooking facilities.
Corporate organizations under CSR give use
rights to productive assets. Suzlon a wind energy
company gave use rights for 100 acre agriculture
land to vulnerable women in Tamilnadu. Similar
efforts gave night shelters to homeless in the city,
impact district plan in Kerela and set up over 100
gender resource centres in Delhi. Any project can
be a win –win for local neighborhood by including
them in the design and upkeep of the property.
Interaction and engagement lends security and
