Amy Brown – 50508657 Task 3 – TV Advert Advert pre-production Research Our television advert we are creating is for Cadbury’s Dairy Milk for their original chocolate bar. Because of the fact we are advertising an extremely popular product, our target audience will be everyone, though our main focus will be on families. This is due to the Christmassy nature of our advert, so it appeals to a large majority of the public. Christmas adverts are some of the most highly anticipated adverts of the year and are extremely iconic and unique, which will build up anticipation for the advert if it was being released. The brand is also extremely well known; one of the most popular in the world so a family friendly and non-controversial advert would help to keep the high reputation of the company and brand. Our deadline for the advert is 15 th December, which is also good for the Christmas season. Ideas Originally, our advert was going to be vintage themed with focus on various Cadbury’s products throughout the times of Cadbury’s being an active company. A woman would be in a kitchen thinking about how much better her life would be with the chocolate products in her life, which cuts to different scenarios where chocolate is involved. This would include products such as Crème Egg, Picnic, Curly Wurly and other popular products which are popular with all age ranges and demographics. With discussion and brainstorming though, we realised that this idea was impossible to do due to time constraints, unavailability from most members of the crew and being too ambitious with our ideas. It also seemed like too much to fit into a short time slot, so we decided to only include the one product and also the most popular. We all then agreed to make a Christmas

Advert pre-productionResearchOur television advert we are creating is for Cadbury’s Dairy Milk for their original chocolate bar. Our deadline for the advert is 15th December, which is also good for the Christmas season.

IdeasOriginally, our advert was going to be vintage themed with focus on various Cadbury’s products throughout the times of Cadbury’s being an active company. We all then agreed to make a Christmas themed advert since it was the perfect time to make something like that. The plot consists of Santa being ill and making him feel better for Christmas with the help of a bar of Dairy Milk. This appeals to people of all ages and helps to connect with our target audiences.

Production:During production, we used a wide range of different equipment to help create our advert. For recording, we used two different cameras for different shots. We mainly used a Canon EOS 600D but for different angles we used a Nikon 3500D, using a tripod to keep it steady for most shots. Some shots were recorded handheld. For sound, we used various RODE boom and shotgun mics for both recording while shooting and Foley sound effects. For lights, we used a mix of natural lighting and lights in the rooms, for example, in Santa’s bedroom we used fairy lights to add some more colour in the shots. Soft boxes were used if we needed extra light if the shots were not clear enough. Foley sounds and a risk assessment is listed above in the pre-production. Other risks include:

When filming outside, if the weather is not suitable for filming. This is a minor risk and can be solved with warm clothing and not staying outside for long periods at a time to avoid getting too cold. Also, if the ground becomes icy (since there has been snow at the time of filming) wear shoes with grip and film on stable ground.

Taking extra caution when handling the boom mic: making sure that there is no one within distance of the pole to avoid getting hit and when holding it, keeping it steady so it isn’t dropped or damaged and not damaging any objects either.

Putting the cameras on the tripods correctly to avoid them getting dropped and damaged.

Setting up the tripod correctly and putting it back safely. If not set up properly, the tripod and camera can get damaged.

A problem we personally had as a group was the fact the battery pack for the camera would become loose and fall out of the camera. We made sure that the pack was inserted correctly and securely to avoid it dropping and damaging, especially on hard and outside floors.

Post-production:For post-production, our editor is Lucy Charlesworth who will edit with Adobe Premiere Pro. In post editing, she has decided to increase things such as saturation and contrast and make the temperature more warm to make it feel more Christmassy. Other colour correcting will be edited in as well, as we filmed in different places and want to make it all look identical. No special effects will be added in and the main editing will be putting the clips together and adding transitions. We wanted to keep editing simple since filming was left later than anticipated, so a lot of the things that would’ve potentially have been done in editing was sorted out when we were filming. This is because, as well, it is better to sort things out while filming rather than in post.
