Enrichment Kindergarten: The students are reading stories about planting while also practicing their sight words and phonics skills. We read Sunflower Seeds and practiced the sight words “down” and “came.” We also learned about compound words. We will see many plants that grow beneath our feet in our new story, Under the Ground, and will practice words with beginning blends. 1 st : We are continuing to learn about notable individuals in our biography unit and are practicing searching for key information in the text, using the table of contents, headings, and captions to guide us. 2 nd : Tiernan: The students were very excited to experiment with different substances on opposite sides of the pH Scale in their volcanic eruptions! We learned what can happen when you mix an acid such as vinegar with a base like baking soda. Our homemade volcanoes were so minor in comparison to the explosive Mt. Vesuvius that buried the town of Pompeii. Next week, the students will imagine they lived in 79A.D. and were there to experience the historic eruption. They will write about the incident and what they had gone through in the form of a personal narrative. Golon/Regan: Due to absences and schedule changes, we will be continuing to work on our Titanic opinion pieces next week. The students will write about whether or not the artifacts should be recovered from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean and will provide details to support their claims.
